1. Do you Crosby people have a drinking game going on trying to see if you can make every thread about Crosby no matter how unrelated it may be? Enjoy the playoffs and try a little humility. You look like a bunch of jacka*##& when you try to interject the greatness of Crosby High School athletics into every topic of every sport on this website.
 2. This is the dumbest thread I have ever seen. And my kids go to Nederland.
 3.
I'm glad to see PNG back, Mid County Madness last year was like a morgue.  This game will be back to normal this year.  Good luck and stay healthy.
Agreed.  It's much more fun when both teams are competitive and have something to play for.  I think PNG will surprise some people this year.  The next two years after that that are going to be very good.
 4.

What's amazing to me is that PNG fans are so blind to how bad of fans they are. All I ever hear about is pride and tradition but as soon as things go bad like last year it looks like the trail of tears at half time. As far as tradition goes I really don't get it. Y'all change coaches, uniforms and especially helmet stickers as much as a girl on the rag. PNG has pride when things are good and tradition doesn't exist so with that said they aren't gonna make the playoffs and their AD will have a new name next year
take it from a former bulldog grad, until you are part of it you don't understand.  It is bigger than a football team, it is taking pride and ownership of your community.  Don't know where you are from but why the hell does pride honor tradition bother you so bad. Get over it and get a little pride in whatever community you are part of.
I think what bothers people is that some PNG fans believe that they have the market cornered on honor, pride and tradition.  I'm a lifelong Bulldog and even I have a great deal of respect for PNG, but there is certainly an elitist attitude about the fandom over there at times.  Over the past 15 plus years Nederland has had the same coach, uniforms, traditions and better winning percentage.  The difference is that it isn't shoved in everyone's face like it is by our Mid County neighbors.  Y'all are no different than any other community when the program struggles, as evidenced by last year.  With that said, if / when there is a drop off in Nederland's program I fully expect the fans here to get restless as well.
 5. Wow - I thought I had seen it all.  Pee wee football point spreads.  Just, wow.
 6. No one is going to win anything this weekend.  It's a scrimmage and they're called that for a reason.  To loosely quote Allen Iverson, "Man, we're talking about practice."
 7.

Reliable sources says Toe-Toe will be a Jag this season! Good for Central's playoff run! They should be very good again this year! Ozen should also be very good and balanced with good ball handlers, shooters and deapth on the blocks! It's funny how now-a-days there would be a conversation of whether these schools could beat Nederland for a District Title? They have some good players and a good head Coach but has Central & Ozen kids/coaches fallin' off that much? When I played it was an automatic 20 to 30 point victory because we played hard, smart, did what we were told to do and simply refused to loose! Oh, I get it the rolls have reversed, it's not all about atheleticism because Central & Ozen definetly have that! Seriosly though, if these players mindset and work-ethic change the only conversation for 20-4a District would be who will be the 3rd & 4th playoff teams after Central & Ozen! Jumping doesn't assure rebounds as much as blocking-out!
If Toe-Toe stays, I predict that Central will run the table in district. If not, it's anybody's crown to win. Don't want it give ALL of the credit to Coach English, BUT he did the same thing in Vidor that he has done here in Nederland. Vidor never had a winning record before E arrived, and I don't believe they've had one since he left. Nederland's Bball program use to last 4-5 months. Now it's a 12 month program. The kids are motivated by him to practice/play year round. I don't think the kids are THAT much different/better/more talented than they use to be. They just believe they can win through his guidance, motivation, coaching, and leadership. Another strong class of kids (Sophomore group) will hopefully continue that competitiveness. They have the ability, but I'm not sure if they have the focus or drive, YET! It's too early to tell.
I'm not sure that I really understand your focus and drive comment.  The core of that group has played together almost year round for at least the past three to four years.  To call them gym rats would be an understatement.  Most of them don't even play other sports.  Plus this is the same group that routinely played and beat quality JV teams last season as freshmen.  Question their experience on varsity all you want, but I think it's misplaced to question their focus and drive.  And no, I do not have a kid in the program - I just don't understand your analysis. And I would give all of the credit for the current state of the program to Coach English.  The kids can take credit for their individual play, but Brian English is that program.  Ned basketball was an afterthought before he arrived.  He has cultivated and grown the talent base.  If / when he leaves it will likely wither to next to nothing again, just like Vidor did.
 8.

Practice started this past Monday like most other schools that didn't do spring training.    Mayfield did standout!  Along with a handful of others
...what about a Spring game?
You mean the touch football game the day before school got out?  I don't know about what kind of football they play at Central, but I don't think anyone from Nederland would call that a real football game.  Let it go.
 9.
I look forward to seeing the Nederland Bulldogs start two a days  not THIS Monday but NEXT Monday...
You've now moved from moderately funny about this to delusional.  What part of no after school practices and no contact / pads can't you understand?  The 'Spring Game' you have harped on for months now was a glorified touch game in the athletic period.  No pads, no contact, no referees.  And most importantly - no UIL violations.  The same can't be said for Central over the summer.
 10. Just cosmetic changes.  Why do any kind of realignment if it isn't going to change the competitive balance between big and small schools in 4A and 5A?  Making what would now be a 6A with the biggest of the big schools would really balance out both 4A and 5A.
 11. If he was freshman QB last season then he is a heck of an athlete and player.
 12. Why didn't he play football last year?  Not trying to stir the pot - just curious based on the article.
 13. Speed, size or whatever - that kid should not have had to walk on anywhere.  I can't believe someone did not offer him a scholarship.  Best of luck to him.
 14. [Hidden Content]; (Lamar) [Hidden Content] (Texas) [Hidden Content]; (Texas A & M) [Hidden Content] (North Carolina) Like I said, 30-40 on the roster, including red shirts, walk-ons, etc.  In most cases 20-30 of those will be on scholarship and dividing 11.7 scholarships per team.  I could go on and beat ther proverbial dead horse, if you would like.  Me thinks your reading comprehension and research skills need a little polishing, sir.
 15. I consider myself more of a baseball guy and even I think this is a ridiculous post.  If you don't think baseball is or can be year-round, you are mistaken.  The only thing that keeps baseball from being played year-round is the weather.  Finally, if the reason to support your kids in playing sports is for scholarship opportunities or to have their college education paid for, save your money on any year-round sports and set up a college fund.  Do the math, a college basketball team may have 15 players and a college baseball team may have around 30 to 40.  Both of those sports have about 12 scholarships per team to distribute.  In the case of baseball, those 12 scholarships are often divided between 20-30 players.  Factor in the odds of getting a scholarship to play sports with distribution and your logic completely falls apart.
I wouldn't be so sure.  That is a very attractive job.  There is pretty good talent coming back with this year's junior class and this year's freshman group is loaded.  A perennial winner with several good classes waiting in the wings.  I think a lot of very good coaches will be circling this job, including Silsbee's.
Of course you have the right to think and say anything you want.  Normally, a poster on this site at least DOES THINK before he blows it out of his biggest bodily orifice.  Apparently not so in your case. ::) 8)
17.
If  the regular Nederland  coaching staff is involved in this 'spring game', then that would mean it's an organized practice/spring game.  So,  you manage to squeeze an entire 'game' into an in school athletic period?  Games are about 2 hours.  Isn't in school athletic periods about 45 mins?
I think you're reaching to find something wrong here and it's just not there.  The 'game' is played within the time period of the regular athletic period and usually only lasts a few series.  Offense v. Defense and then a few subs.  That's pretty much it.  No pads, no media, no band, no problems.  Organized practices only count if they are done in the context of formal spring practice with contact.  If what they are doing is wrong, every school in Texas that does not have organized spring football with pads is doing something illegal and their offseason program is breaking UIL rules.
 18.
Money makes everybody think about other things  ;D
Yes, it does and PNG pays relatively well for both teacher salaries and coaching stipends.  I would think that fans from West Brook, Bridge City, Vidor, Orangefield and maybe Silsbee (as well several other schools) might be kind of nervous about this job being open.  I think a lot of good coaches are going to apply for this based on the pay and talent.  With that said, I have no inside knowledge - just speculating based on good coaches and programs in the area.
 19.

...but isn't  what Central, Ozen, ect. Had going on?  Those spring games that the media, scouts, and fans knew about beforehand is/was nothing more than a 'glorrified intrascrimmage practice'.  Correct me if I'm wrong...
But doesn't the other schools wear pads during this spring game where as Nederland doesn't??
I think that is the main difference.  There isn't much for the media to see if they are only playing in shorts and t-shirts.  For what it's worth, my son plays in Nederland and I didn't know they were doing anything that they even partly considered a "game" until I saw it on the website.
 20.
Also, how many fans do you expect to  be there when there was NO information submitted to local media?
Just the coaching staff, as far as I know. I don't think they notify any media since it is a glorified intra-squad touch football game during the school day.  As far as fans, if they're lucky there will be a few dads watching from their cars or the practice field and that's about it.
 21.

Nederland doesn't do spring football because you lose a week before the start of next season if you do, most coaches who have a system implemented would rather the extra scrimmage and time before week zero versus spring practice in pads.  The spring game is in football class if I'm correct, and it's not real football til the pads are laced up.  No need for media and fans for something like this, it's for the players and coaches to have a little fun at the end of spring workouts.  We know what to do in Nederland when the pads are on.
I know all about what spring foot all is  and I'm also aware of what  schools have systems in place.  I'm also aware that ALL high schools have  football classes.  My thing is that the Nederland poster said something about a 'spring game'.  First thing with that is NO ONE knew Nederland had spring workouts to have  a spring game  (ie PN-G from last year, Memorial, Ozen, Central, and West Brook), all of which advertised these  spring workouts to local media and fans.  Why didn't Nederland disclose this information?  Why haven't this been talked about by the Nederland faithful until now?  Don't want to look too deep into it, but it  seems to me that certain people knew about a spring game, AND Nederland will be allowed to start fall practices without waiting that extra week like Ozen, Central, West Brook, or Memorial.  Am I missing something here?
Yes, you are.  Nederland has only been working out in their athletic period - without pads.  No formal spring football.  The "Spring Game" is just offense v. defense without pads.  It's just a capper to the end of school and their offseason program.
 22. 23. I think eventually HJ will be competitive.  Dubois is a good coach and I think his system will fit very well there.  But, I don't think it will be this year.  Getting a late start setting up his program and teaching his schemes will be tough, I think.  The difference with Vidor was that scheme had been run for a while and y'all finally had a great group of athletes that pushed you over the hump.  I think that time may be coming at HJ.  They have some pretty good athletes coming in the next two or three years, but it is probably unrealistic to think it will be this year.  WOS, Silsbee, et al also will probably have something to say about that too for the foreseeable future as well. Go ahead bedelmon, light me up...
 24.

With all due respect to Coach Haynes, this sure looks like a placeholder-type hire.  Bring in an older, respected guy to right the ship and upgrade things a bit and then try to attract someone in two or three years that will hopefully be a long-term solution.  I'm not criticizing, and that may be what the situation called for, but that is how this looks from the outside.
HUH, so you think he will upgrade the program fix the problems and then the district will fire him for it and get a better coach since their program is sexier, that makes sense.
I never said he would be fired.  He has already retired once.  Realistically how long do you think he is going to stay there.  Three or four wins would be an upgrade over the last couple seasons.  If he can build anything now and get a hold on the outside influences (parents), by the time he retires again it will be a more attractive job than it was this time around.
