    Huffman @ Vidor

West Fork will be a playoff team. Splendora will not. Losing to WF can be considered a quality loss. Losing to Splendora cannot be considered a quality loss. But definitely losing to Liberty is a terrible loss on anyone's resume.

  4. UIL approved giving football teams in 4A & below home-field advantage in first round of playoffs and adopting that for all classes in basketball, volleyball, team tennis and soccer. Currently, only 6A and 5A football teams get home field in first round.

  5. Man there is a lot to unpack here. I'm literally laughing out loud reading most of these comments. Clearly a bunch of new Huffman trolls but mixed in with a really inflated opinion of their team. I'm a fan of Huffman. Unfortunately I'm a bigger fan of the truth. The truth is Drayden Bacon (the RB) is probably the best player in the district and can single handedly win a game for you. The younger Bacon (Dailen) is probably the fastest kid in district and can run by any DB out there and his hands are improving. Both are D1 talents. Huffman has 2 linemen that are D1 talents in my opinion. One has several D1 offers and the other should. After these 4 kids, the well is pretty dry. #13 is very well rounded football player. Everyone else is just a guy on the team. They are so far below average on defense it's crazy the OCs haven't exploited them more. Why do you think they went to a 5 man front? Because they can't stop running water with 4. Obviously teams should be picking them apart in the air, but no teams in this district can pass the ball so they are getting away with it. Vidor is a bad matchup for Huffman. I feel they will wear them down and run away with it at the end. I think all these Huffman players need to get off their phones and worry about the game and not a blog.

I have to agree with you. Trump is not acting in Americas best interest. However, I can’t make myself vote Democrat. It will be Trump and the GOPs fault if they lose the midterms.

  7. LOL we've talked plenty about both teams and when both teams are good and playing the rivalry will definitely be talked about...I def had Nederland as a hipster pick this year back in August and I'm glad they have proven me correct.. PNG started slow, but they dont have a bad loss on the resume...just watched last week's game online and noticed Gohlke at QB and the last PNG game I watched (Crawford) Ashworth was QB

  13. A shot clock creates pressure to attempt a shot before time expires. For teams with inexperienced guards or limited ball-handling ability, that can mean more rushed passes, careless turnovers, and low-percentage shots. A faster pace can lead to more possessions, more transition opportunities, and greater physical demands. Teams with short benches may struggle to keep players fresh, particularly during tournaments with multiple games in a day. The shot clock adds another timing responsibility. Officials must determine when it resets, when it continues, and whether a shot hits the rim or results in a violation. Mistakes can directly affect close games. Schools may need to purchase shot clocks, install them, maintain them, and train officials and operators. Smaller districts could feel that financial burden more than wealthy districts.… plus the shortage of officials state wide let’s not forget.

  14. I can watch multiple games at one time on NFHS and DCTX/Texan Live. Just can't watch it on multiple devices at same time. But that's most if not all streaming services. Not sure what is the issue with your subscription.

  15. I will say I think honestly it won't speed the game up that much as 35 seconds is a very long time so I think it could lead to longer possessions. It will force coaches to have some late shot clock built in actions to run if their offense isn't producing a shot after 25 seconds. Also teams that rely on pressing like in the college game can adapt if in foul trouble to force teams into shorter half-court possessions with a slower press with less trapping as that is what I have heard the most in my conversations with college coaches about the change. There are lots of mini games that can be played with it that will take a few people a while. I don't mind people holding the ball either, I do like this for late game the most as teams will have to be able to play a little better late game than just use an elite guard to dribble around to run clock out in late game too. But I 100% see your point about it taking some styles away.

  17. It's not the defense, it's the talent. BC went through the 5 man front like a hot knife through butter. The only problem was they they couldn't play defense themselves. Vidor sees nothing but 5,6, or 7 man fronts all year. This will be no different from for them. I want Huffman to win, I really do. I just don't think they have a chance in hell of slowing Vidor down. And you better hope QB1 makes it back or it will be a blowout.

  34. Nothing says hot like losing to Shepherd, Splendora and Liberty. The district is terrible. Y'all may or may not be the least terrible team in this district. In the past everyone has ragged on this district for being bad, but this year takes the cake. If HJ would have opted up, they probably would have won it.

  37. Their O-line has a couple of good sized kids. Huffman has had to play them on the D-line as well in spot situations to sure up the run. Without them in the game Vidor will run all over them. This game is gonna come down to who doesn't turn the ball over or make stupid special teams mistakes. Neither team will consistently be able to stop the other team from scoring. Huffman's QB left the game with a sprained ankle. Hopefully he makes it back or it will hurt Huffman tremendously. He throws a good deep ball and Huffman has the WRs to go get it. The backup is a deer in the headlights Sophomore. He will make a lot of mistakes if forced to play.

  42. A different narrative to the anti gun debate. Had the dad not have a gun, it could have been much worse. Furthermore, the shooter used a pump shotgun, not the usual assault rifle or handgun. I found it interesting that the shooter fired 15 rounds, so he must have had time to reload at least twice.

Bush family money is now backing the Democrat in the Texas Senate race. Barbara Bush donated $2,500 to a Super PAC supporting James Talarico over Ken Paxton. Clinton, Bush and Obama -- this is NOT the normal I want to go back to!

  44. I’m not certain on how good Nederland or PNG is, this may be one of the worst districts they have been in. These teams have been bad! Next week will be the only hard game they have in district play. Good luck and hopefully injury free to both teams.

  46. Anderson, WB pound United 28-14 By Tom Halliburton Tammeron Anderson never expected to run so much Friday night but the West Brook senior handled his heavy workload ‘ok’ by his own estimation. The Bruins quarterback and his big-play receiver/runner Brandon Jackson dazzled Beaumont United’s defense when it counted as the west end squad convincingly reclaimed the Beaumont Bowl title 28-14 at wind-blown Doggett Family Stadium. How convincingly did coach Chuck Langston’s red and blue (3-4 and 2-3) restore their 5A Division 1 playoff hopes? They outgained the younger Timberwolves (6-2 and 3-2) by a commanding 422 yards to United’s 246. How involved was West Brook’s field general in compiling that 422 total. The University of Louisiana pledge, Anderson ran a seemingly excessive 26 times for 151 yards and threw for 198 more. Tam tossed three scoring passes and dashed to paydirt for a fourth score. Anderson’s busiest receiver, Jackson, collected five of his passer’s nine completions for 166 yards and two touchdowns while Brock Anderson added a touchdown catch which shoved WB in the lead for keeps. There’s no way anyone expected the Bruins quarterback to take off and run that often. Not even Tam himself. But the Timberwolves defense had to stretch the field and assign a defender to guard each potential weapon as the Bruins constantly lined up in an empty backfield. That permitted Tam to dash into the wide-open spaces. “The game plan was to get the ball to my receivers but United has a great defense and our receivers weren’t always open,” the Bruins passer said. “We had to give them some unique looks (offensive formations),” said the head coach’s son and WB offensive coordinator Justice Langston. “We thought we might have to put it on Tam’s back.” When the rivals shook hands, Timberwolves head coach Drenard Williams spoke with class, complimenting the Bruins. “They kept our passing game contained and we couldn’t punch it into the end zone,” United’s second-year head coach said. “I take my hat off to them. It’s all about execution. But we sure don’t have time to hang our hats.” Anderson would be the first guy to admit that his night would feel far less than perfect. He lost two fumbles in the game’s first 15 minutes. United linebacker Myles Andrews jarred one loose in the end zone and teammate Justice Johnson covered it for touchdown, giving United a 14-7 lead less than a minute into the second quarter. From that point, WB’s offensive line decided to take charge, often escorting its quarterback to large yardage chunks. The Bruins tied the game midway in the second quarter with an 87-yard, 15-play drive. They grabbed their first lead late in the third quarter with a 62-yard, 14-play possession. The fourth-quarter trip to the end zone covered 64 yards in eight snaps. “I thought our offensive line played extremely well,” the Bruins head coach said. “We were very physical up front. Tam is a special young man with an unbelievable character. We put a lot on him tonight.” Senior offensive lineman Michael Richard felt his unit definitely took command of United’s defense after halftime. “I could tell by the energy we had,” Richard said. “We just had to make sure we executed and stayed together… The main thing is we just locked in on all of our plays.” As for the game’s most productive yardage gainer, the West Brook quarterback preferred to downplay his contribution. “I had an OK game but I could have done much better,” Anderson said. “I feel happy not for me but for the team, for our school and all the people on the west end.” Tom Halliburton is a Beaumont Enterprise senior sports correspondent
