  1. So the Bill of Rights isn’t important, and can change anytime because the Founders are dead? Pretty lame argument. The Constitution doesn’t change, and has never changed. Only the interpretations & additions. But, since you say it changes with the times, then you’d have no objections to changing back to original intent of the Amendment authors.

  2. Do you think Congress, in 1866 when they created the 14th amendment, planned on the President of the United States opening the border and letting almost 7 million illegals come in? Also, with 3-7 year waits for a hearing, think of all the babies that could be born. This needs to be addressed.

  3. what if the law allowed for a situation where a criminal could break into your house and have a baby, and then not only would the baby be allowed to stay and live there in your house, but the mother would be allowed to as well so she could take care of the baby? As the owner of the house you'd even have to allot some of your monthly budget to help provide basic services and food for them. Sound absurd? It does to me as well. @UT alum, same question.

  4. Oh yeah, my great grandparents on my mother’s side and great great great grandparents on my father’s were legal immigrants to this country and granted citizenship through naturalization. So I was born in the United States to American citizens, therefore under the jurisdiction of the country.

  7. How do you know now? Profile much? You must live in a very small world. My daughter-in-law is a naturalized citizen from Costa Rica. She’s as much a citizen as you or me. She even served in the U.S. Navy. Probably has given more of herself to this country than you. She happens to be very proud to be an American. If you read any of the articles I linked to, you’d have a lot better idea of what’s going on. But hey…carry on…

Thanks for asking. I’m opposed to doing away with property taxes for a few reasons- primarily, in regards to “how will we replace this tax revenue?” If you normally pay $3k per year in property taxes, you’d just expect to pick it up elsewhere, through sales tax or an excise (vat) tax. The only problem is that the redistribution of that burden won’t be passed down evenly. Parkdale Mall Will no longer pay property taxes, but WILL pay a higher sales tax on the lightbulbs and toilet paper that they buy. They’re going to pay way less. A guy that owns a dozen rent houses will see his property tax bill shrink dramatically. Will he pass the savings on to his tenants? Of course not. The people renting won’t see any change at all in their cost of living. But the average Joe Homeowner who’s already having trouble making ends meet will surely see an increase in the cost of everything he buys to survive. It’s been proven that increases in sales taxes hurt lower income people worse than wealthy people. A larger percentage of their income will be spent on taxes, while people with multiple properties see their tax liability decrease. Another HUGE problem is that money won’t be collected locally. Your sales tax dollars will be collected by an agency of the state that will then redistribute the funds as they see fit. Good luck getting those hairy-legged women in the Peoples’ Republic of Austin to send anything back our way. How well can rural counties lobby against the Harris, Bexar, Dallas, and Tarrant counties? We’ll all be sucking hind teat, if you know what I mean. The cost of education is high. Right now the average annual spending per student in Texas is almost $10k/year. Assuming you had three kids at home, could you afford to educate them at a cost of $30k per year? I sure couldn’t. Most people who have kids in school simply can’t afford to shoulder the cost of educating them by themselves. That’s how we ended up spreading the cost of their education among all property owners. I’m not saying that property taxes are fair, but it’s the most fair system that we’ve got. And to be frank, the voting public will vote against their own interests when instructed to. I’d be amazed if you didn’t just vote for politicians here in Texas that were in favor of giving tax dollars to rich parents to offset the cost of private education for their spoiled brats. Not necessarily you personally, but Texans as a group just sent their legislators to Austin with a mandate to make vouchers for private school for rich kids a public responsibility, while simultaneously arguing that “taxation is theft.” It’s bananas.

It will be very difficult for Houston to trade him due to his contract and being damaged goods. Astros would basically expect nothing in return for him. That's not good business.

  10. Great season, girls and coaches. The future looks bright with 8 starters returning. All 3 pitchers will be back and 3 coming up from Junior High that could contribute.

  12. Only partially true. You conveniently left out the key part like many. He is a citizen because HE was born here, and his PARENTS were legally subject here, resided permanently here, and were presumed loyal to the U.S. HE was underage. So, his status was carried from his parent/parents.

  15. I simply can't see Silsbee promoting Jacob over Ira at this point unless that's Ira wish. Both have interviewed. I can see them promoting Ira to head coach for the next 3-4 years then handing the reigns over to Jacob.

  16. The constitution gives Congress the power to make laws concerning immigration.....currently, it is illegal to cross the border unless grated that right. So, if you support the constitution, they should not be allowed to cross in the first place.

  20. Because of the Constitution. The term birthright citizenship is not in the Constitution. The Fourteenth Amendment says born in the United States AND subject to its jurisdiction. In the Supreme Court case of Elk v. Wilkins they ruled that even though Elk was born in US territory, the fact that he was born on a reservation, he was under the jurisdiction of his tribe. He was therefore not a US citizen just because he was born here. The subject to the jurisdiction is the problem. In US v. Wong Kim Ark the Supreme Court ruled on a person here lawfully. Wong was born on US soil to parents who were Chinese however they had been granted permanent citizenship. Since the US had granted his parents permanent status in this country, they were now under the jurisdiction of the US. As the Fourteenth Amendment states, a person is a citizen at birth if born in the US AND subject to its jurisdiction. As ruled in Elk, being born here did not even make a Native American a US citizen. It was settled enough that the US Congress under their authority in Article I of the Constitution, passed a law giving all Native Americans born in the US citizenship. So it literally took an act of Congress for them to be citizens. Why? Because the Supreme Court had already ruled that they were not citizens merely by being born on US soil. In my first post I said there was about a 98% of birthright citizenship being confirmed by the Supreme Court but more out of tradition. They are going to throw their collective hands up and say, “oh well, regardless of the intent of the Fourteenth Amendment, we don’t want to change tradition”.

Where were the protestors when Obama deported 3 million? Did they receive due process? Of course not. You have no answer for this so I will do it for you……”Yeah right” “Whatever”

  24. I was attempting to show the lady that you said she was naturalized. I thought it comical that she agreed that she was a citizen. If she is naturalized, then she definitely is a citizen. Thank her for her service. I’ll go back to my stance that our forefathers couldn’t foresee a traitor like Biden opening up our borders to an illegal invasion of this magnitude, and I’ll never sway from that opinion.
