The first mistake is it's a Klein piece.

Mixed opinions… a lot of misinformation in Klein’s article. That 100k homestead exemption will only apply to the portion of taxes paid to your local school district. I believe that the other taxing units homestead exemption (if one is offered) will not be lowered- but that’s okay, school taxes are the biggest piece of the pie, making up close to 2/3 of rural tax bills and half of bills for heavily taxed jurisdictions like Jefferson County. I think Klein’s analysis missed the mark by a lot… he’s just wrong on this. It’ll have no affect on your county, city, ESD, tax levy that’s generated or the way those taxing units spend. I like the idea of a “circuit breaker” that will keep non-HS property from large one year increases-that’s been troubling to me. If I have homestead exemption on a property, my taxable value can increase no more than 10% year to year. Non-homesteads (rentals, 2nd homes, commercial property etc had no such protection-the taxable values on those properties could go up astronomically year to year. Property tax bills have been getting out of control, for sure. I’m glad to see them trying to do something to rein it in.

That’s a nice story about a man name Jed who barely kept his family fed. Lol He’s also the only president that I know of that donated his presidential salary to charity the 4 years he was in office and left the White House $700 million dollars poorer than when he went in according to Forbes. I find it disturbing that you think that the Democrats and a good majority of Republicans are just playing politics as usual to retain power these last 6 years. I hate it because she’s obviously not a dumb person. I just don’t know how that group mentality ever gets better. It’s deeper than simply changing voting patterns and I believe that the change would have to come internally-it’s nothing that someone from outside the group could ever initiate. That’s probably my biggest gripe about President Obama. You have a guy that could have said “look at me… I’m proof that it’s done. White people literally just elected a black president- welcome to post racial America!” Instead we got talk of reparations, affirmative action, social Justice, etc. At one point he was the most powerful man on the planet and just last week he was talking about how he’s just a victim who made it in spite of racism. The ease with which that community accepts victimhood never ceases to amaze me.

Nederland has always done the best when the best athletes play multiple sports and found a way to make all the practices. This whole culture in the Athletic department is broken and specializing in one sport is not panning out. Time to get back to hitting the weight room before or after school mandatory and not making weight workouts optional on your own time or when you do workout they are going on the coaches whistle what is what athletes described. Time to make the athletes run track mandatory in the spring after school if they aren’t in a spring sport, if you aren’t working on your form you are hurting yourself and the team. The BULDOG WAY has lost its self and mojo and need to get back to what it was years ago and holding coaches and players accountable starting at the top. But that’s just my IMO.
