  2. Offensively, you must have a passing game to go with your running game these days to be successful Nederland’s running game was not that bad, however the passing game was lousy I don’t know what they do to choose a QB, but he either needs to be able to throw accurately or the QB coach needs to teach him. It is also a coach’s responsibility to teach receivers how to run good pass routes. Nederland is very poor at that. It is mainly the athletes responsibility to learn to catch a pass. They were really bad at that. I thought the OL blocked pretty well on running plays, but pass blocking was a big issue My take is that they probably didn’t work on pass blocking enough Defensively, they haven’t had good secondary play in years. I take it that the coaching staff does an inadequate job teaching them and they simply have average athletes at those positions I thought the DL was decent vs the run, but pass rushing was not very good and again probably didn’t work on that enough. It also appeared watching their games that the LB’er position has average athletes that appear to be in slow motion. The poor tackling is on the defensive coaching staff That is what I observed watching them and they have major issues to get corrected by next season if they plan on being successful
  3. Have no iron in the fire at Big Ned. Just stating my opinion , just like couch Coach is
  4. Today
  5. RoughneckGuy says Silsbee is just a solid team they run the ball well and play Good Defense! RoughneckGuy can’t go against Silsbee here and no disrespect Shepherd!
  6. Memorial’s enrollment hovers around 2,060 students, which is at the top of the 5A spectrum.
  7. RoughneckGuy says you obviously don’t know how good of a team Columbia has this year! RoughneckGuy says they are pretty good!
  8. RoughneckGuy says we already have won our District and RoughneckGuy has Silsbee beating Shepherd and right now Shepherd is 4th!
  9. First off, if I’ve offended you in any way, I apologize. I like your commentary and picks. I was mostly having fun with you because for the last three years when these picks have come in, I’ve commented on here about us loving to be the underdog and every year that I have, we’ve made the playoffs. Was just trying to keep status quo. The comment regarding the vindicator was because they have done many articles on the Horns and I feel like he’s always done a great job of covering them. Regarding the picks I will be glad to give you mine. I will say the top 4 could easily be swapped in my opinion. I think the winner of the district will have 2 losses, that’s how close I think it will be. But here’s my opinion. 1. Huffman (coaching staff just finds ways to get the most out of their kids, guard play will be their weakness) 2. Livingston (return two solid players along with some size, their downfall will be their lack of coaching) 3. Tarkington (can’t break the norm here, they do return the best player, problem is he lost some help by graduating 4 senior starters.) 4. Hardin Jefferson (nice addition by adding talent through the “portal”, just returners from last year I don’t think will be enough) 5. Hamshire-Fannett (lost some talent and size and head coach. Heard they didn’t play well in spring and summer but honestly don’t know much about them) 6. Shepherd (best big man in the district but not enough shooters and talent around him) 7. Liberty (return a couple young talented players but lost their best two players and some size)
  10. RoughneckGuy says but let’s be honest do we think Shepherd will beat Silsbee??? It’s not like they are playing Tarkington!

  12. I didn't post any district picks three years ago. Did this year and last year. I have all the respect for Coach Wynn and Tarkington basketball. He has done a tremendous job over there. Look forward to seeing them again this year at some point. But it doesn't mean I need to pick them in my preseason picks. You bring up the Vindicator. They don't give props to several worthy teams in our coverage area. Should I chastise them like you are chastising me and others? We will see how my picks play out. But how about you give me your picks for that district?
  13. The passing TD's to rushing TD's last week against Sterling was 7 to 2. I know it was Sterling but that was impressive
  14. I mean both of you have missed it for three years in a row so I guess so. Maybe it’s just time to give Tarkington basketball a little bit of respect. While you and the rest of area reporters except the Vindicator have been giving other schools their props, you’ve missed that the Horns and Coach Wynn have put 3 nice seasons together and continue to build in house. They don’t get the transfers that your friends over at HJ get. They just keep working hard and getting better. Oh by the way they went 2-0 vs HJ last year and handed them a loss at their house that kept them from going to playoffs for the first time in however many years. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
  15. So TABC is clueless as well, right? But, glad to do my part for the Tark folks.
  16. Love it AAW! Thank you for not picking Tarkington, again!!! Three years in a row we’ve watched you not pick them and three years in a row, we’ve finished third and made the playoffs. Then you picked Shepherd for the surprise team. I guess you aren’t aware that we return the best player in the district.
  17. In bold: I think they unlocked something last week.
  18. Huffman really kept them off balance!
  19. Each district handbook has it's playoff tiebreaker system. Tiebreaker systems vary from district to district. No universal system. I only get it passed on to me when I ask coaches for it. It's not available to the public that I am aware of.
  20. Personally, too many good teams to go through to be looking that far ahead. Also, IMO, PA Memorial needs to get their pass game going before I can consider them state champ contender.
  21. How does the general public know how a district handles tiebreakers? Is that info published somewhere? I’m sure UIL has it for each district.
  22. Last week before playoffs begin. Several games with seasons on the line. Where will you be this week? My Week 11 schedule: Thursday Beaumont United at Baytown Sterling or (pregame meal at Floyd's Seafood) Garrison at Joaquin (pregame meal at Big Zach's Place) Friday Barbers Hill at Beaumont West Brook or (pregame meal at Twin Peaks) Woodville at Kountze or (pregame meal at Mama Jack's) Colmesneil at West Hardin (pregame meal at Mama Jack's) Saturday Southeastern Louisiana at Lamar (pregame meal at tailgate)
  23. There are so many quality teams in D1. Upsets are going to happen. R2 & R3 are going to be brutal to win. Then you have the defending champ in SV. Plenty to worry about before Arlington.
  24. Let’s just focus on week 1 that’s it that’s all for now folks
  25. Titans have to get through La Porte and/or Angleton.
  26. What if you couldn't find a job? Just 1 month?
  27. Yesterday
  28. We're at 2021 enrollment, but I understand what you're saying though. 👍🏾
