Growing up on a farm in Dalhart, TX., we were insured by Texas Farm Bureau. Yes. That’s what I think insurance should be. ‘Member owned.’ Our current medical insurance is non-profit run by Harris Health Dept. But, ACA requirements are still effecting costs. For medical insurance, I’d like to see split coverages for prescriptions similar to Medicare Part D. Prescription coverage is a huge adder onto major medical. If split out cafeteria style, with some type of credits, tax free HSA’s or similar, given to individuals where they could choose among different plans—or no plan—my belief is that people could save a sizable amount on premiums. Some people (don’t know a number, but I’d think a pretty good amount) only want major medical. They don’t need many expensive prescriptions. Others need the prescriptions more.
