Well you can also twist the numbers to look like this. Ray only had to maintain or have attendance drop by 1000 from last year but Pat has to raise attendance 1000 from last year. Ray got the better end of that deal!

which one would you want?

interesting..I'd take basketball..because OF this city -- i think football will plateau around 12k/game

i wonder how many times in the history of football/basketball...these attendance numbers have been hit?

another thing..say you bring in a big draw...sell out both of em to average into the attendance...heck of a boost to bball over football

When you win championships and playoff games, attendance takes care of itself.  If Woodard gets caught up in promotions on attendance to earn that bonus, then the focus is completely wrong.  If he stops "good ole boying" the way he runs the program, he may have the kind of success that LU supporters desire.

So let me get this. Coach W would play the "good ole boying" in spite of wins? All the coaches especially know in college put the best kids on the field. To many arm chair wanta be coaches here that know nothing.  8)

yet somehow by you saying the opposite, means you DO know?

OR does it mean you're just another arm chair wanta be coach that has a different opinion?

Those are questions by the way, in no way do they reflect my opinion or intended to make a statement in favor of or against the current coaching staff.

Pat Knight will sell out the first men's basketball game in the Montagne because his teams will be good AND he'll offer the Golden Triangle fan base real opponents to see play...NOT more of Louisiana College and the like. Notwithstanding the fact LU outdraws all other SLC schools (I think) in basketball, its been 25 years since going to watch LU basketball was really cool. I think LU basketball is about to become "cool" again! And don't forget the value of winning...if I recall correctly, there actually was a sold out Montagne for a women's game when they had the big NCAA run before the program fell apart due to scandal.

The Lamar Basketball Media Guide has this info.  Top 10 crowds:

10,010 vs McNeese 1/10/87 (Joe Dumars was on their team)
9,467 vs McNeese 2/27/86
9,432 vs LSU 12/16/85
8,992 vs Arkansas State 1/24/87
8,610 vs Houston 3/15/85
8,454 vs Texas 12/27/95
8,338 vs Northwestern State 2/23/08
8,317 vs La Tech 1/26/85
8,254 vs Chattanooga  3/20/85
8,216 vs Villanova 11/26/85

Also, since the Montagne Center opened, only once have they averaged less than 2000 per year, back in 1989-1990.  3K to 4K per year is the norm.

The Villanova game was the grand opening for the Montagne Center. I was there. Now lets use that as a conversational benchmark. Our 10th biggest crowd, right? So now tell me which SLC school's biggest crowd EVER topped that? I'm thinking NONE (...please prove me wrong). Now...if so, and with the right coach...why can't we get back to that?... (other than TEXAS in the '90s all the other top 10 crowds were in the 80's...and the TEXAS game sucked because we had all the local tea-sippers in the area showing up in their burnt orange...ugh). I think we can...I'm with Coach Knight and our impressive class of athletic seniors who are now actually being taught the value of playing defense! He says we can be the new GONZAGA! Why not? So let's help him. I will be driving over from Houston to all the home SLC games that my job will allow so that I can contribute to the crowd totals. I'm excited as an old time supporter...
