  1. Sam, SFA and Texas St (SW Texas) were all Lone Star Conference members with Lamar in the 1960s...then LaTech and USL big rivalries in the 70s and 80s...hard to understand and passively accept all these schools moving on by us... as for D-1 basketball, none of their men's programs ever made the sweet 16 like Lamar...nor the women making the finals like Lamar.
  2. Unlike Rice, the University of Houston always likes playing Lamar when they perceive us weak...so with so few upper-classmen next year, I bet they are on the schedule.
  3. That freshman...#4...he's impressive (unless that was a career night for him)...I kept asking myself, if he's really that good, what is he going at Vermont? To me, he was the difference in the game... I'm proud of Lamar and our coach...Pat Knight took a team that couldn't even qualify for the SLC tourney and then not only qualified, but won it. His starting line-up was at times Roc's starting line-up last year.
  4. well...we got beat by a better team I think...I wish them well...
  5. "Wow!!! Travel costs more than $125,000??  Is BISD scheduling this trip???" Love it! Best line in this thread! And I guess I'll give up on dissing Harvard...except it still bothers me that they don't have to win a tournament and we do. Anything can happen in a tourney...look at the Washington Huskies...won the PAC-12 regular season then lost in the tourney and they didn't even get a play-in game. So seems a bit unfair to let Harvard in for winning the conference and not the Huskies who did the same. I realize that is not quite apples to apples, but I think if the Ivy League doesn't want a tournament that's fine, but the seeding of their regular season champion should consider that in a negative light.
  6. OK..I agree with everybody on this thread that we got screwed...so now let's move forward...can we beat Vermont? Shouldn't we?
  7. "Harvard beat Florida State, UCF, Utah, and St Joes...as tough of a schedule as Lamar's"....... ...as tough of a schedule as Ohio St, Kentucky and Louisville...??????????  Huh????
  8. At least this year's Lamar Cards have a number 1 seeded youtube video! ...as for as Harvard having a better year than Lamar, suggest you look at their schedule...we lost 11 and they only lost 4...but again, look at their schedule...wonder what our total losses would be against that schedule...this is the same argument that surfaced when Pat Knight said no-more D2s  and D3s and weak sisters...perhaps at the end of the day, strength of schedule hurt us in the selection committee...
  9. Vermont played only two games outside of the US Northeast...South Florida in Tampa and St Louis...lost both...they only have 2 seniors and 3 juniors...the rest of the team is under-classmen...we should match-up well with them.
  10. Harvard is higher than we are?...they don't even play a conference tourney in the IVY LEAGUE...because we had more losses to Louisville, Kentucky, Ohio State and Geo Mason? Did Harvard play any of those?
  11. Doesn't Pat still have one scholarship left...from the kid that flunked out?
  12. "Get outta my lane!!!!!"... Osas was awesome this afternoon! Not sure if this photo will post but will try. If not, too bad...one of his many rejections...Miles and James were great tonight, but both big runs started with Osas...he totally denied McNeese ANY inside game. And he's a sophomore at that! /Users/wmwithers/Desktop/2012 03 10 011croppededitCUalt copy.jpg
  13. Pull 'em over tomorrow as I am traveling...but back on Saturday if we're in the championship...would love to see a big Lamar turnout...Coach Knight and his "comeback-seniors" have earned it.
  14. Looking good so far...Roc's athletes and Knight's coaching...NWLA is a serious well-coached challenge...
  15. We have six seniors and six recruits (not counting Doty). So does this mean with Lynch's departure that we have an open scholarship and can add another recruit?
  16. George Mason went to the Big Show just a couple of years ago with their biggest player at 6-6...but their guards were disciplined and could could score from the perimeter when open and they hardly EVER turned the ball over...a senior laden team under great coaching...I'm thinkin' that is where Pat Knight is taking us.......
  17. Found this about Hondo Webb: The Melissa Cardinals impending trip to the boys state basketball tournament is big news in this Collin County community. It is the school’s first final four foray. “Wherever you go, you can’t walk six feet without running into someone excited about this,’’ Melissa coach Clint Sadler said. “The great thing is neither the fans or our players are satisfied just to be going. The attitude is we still have games to play.’’ The Cardinals (36-1) face Tatum (31-7) in a Class 2A state semifinal at 10 a.m. Friday at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. A victory would put Melissa in the state title game at 2 p.m. Saturday. Idalou (31-1) and Hallettsville (33-4) meet in the other semifinal. Lacking height -- there's no starter taller than 6-2 -- Sadler’s focus this season has been on defense and rebounding. “We’ve heard that we don’t have the size to win state, but our guys have done a great job and we’re not going to change anything now,’’ Sadler said. “Our motto is to be the best we can be at everything we do. We break every huddle with it.’’ Hondo Webb, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior, is the unquestioned leader. Born in Africa and the son of missionary parents, Webb is the team’s point guard, yet he often defends the opponents’ tallest player. Webb leads the team in rebounds (10.3), assists (7.1), steals and blocked shots. He’s second in scoring (14.1). Three of his six career triple-doubles have come this season.
  18. Loved Pat's reply to Dave on the post game...Dave: "Well you have a full week until the next game, what is your plan?" Pat: "Find 13 new players"...I'm paraphrasing some, but that was the gist...I'm liking this guy more and more...at the least, he's the best interview since Tubbs! Too bad about the game...disappointing to drive all the way from Houston to watch that...that said, my respects to UTA...if today was how they play everyday...then they are solid and maybe the best SLC team in years. Great shooters and nicely coached...at least today.
  19. Jason Smith looks good...I had posted that link on this site back when they signed him. I don't care for his tats either, but then again my daughter got one and that bothers me more. So how big is Hancock?...I've seen conflicting reports...I confess that I forgot about Mitchell...I thought he was gone for academic reasons. Amos Wilson has those issues as well, right. That said "AggiesWeAreNot"...good post...I feel better now.
  20. I'm not sure I can identify among our returning underclassmen and new recruiting class who will replace Charlie Harper at the 4-spot...also not sure why we need three point guard recruits in addition to Tre Lynch...seems like we would have focused on at least one 6-6ish power type forward that can shoot...as in a Charlie Harper style player...one thing for sure, we lose all our scorers after this year, so like Mike Deane in his first year with Grey Giovanine's seniors, hopefully, Pat Knight will make the most with Roc's seniors...would be fun to be back in the NCAA again for sure...this year may be our best chance for awhile......
  21. Even though we're "on the road", shouldn't we be able to beat a 1-11 team?
