Rankings are something to make you feel good about yourself and that's about it imo....they don't always tell the whole story.  That being said, I do have a question for people who are close to Central..what has changed since the 1st 2 games of the year?  Did some people move around or yall have just stepped up your game and made the necessary adjustments?  This isn't a derogatory post...just curious.  I realize that WB is a good team and PAM was playing well (I actually thought they might beat NS, but it's just spiralled out of control since that loss unfortunately).

These rankings mean absolutely NOTHING in two weeks.
It's lose and your out, even if you are #1.
They mean you're ranked whatever it says you're ranked.  It says that people have gotten together and placed their votes and they think you're a top team in the state if you're listed.  It's a sign of respect, and it shows the kids that hard work pays off.  Even next week, it will mean the same thing.  That doesn't change.  Ya, if you lose, you're out, but rankings will still be rankings.  Rather your team is ranked, or the team you're playing is ranked, it makes things alot more interesting.  BTW, congratulations to Central.  You guys suffered a pair of early losses to 5A schools, but have since fought your way back.  Central started the season at #38, but with one game to go, they are 1 spot away from breaking into the top 10.
Bet you would feel pretty silly to be ranked #1 but lose in the first round of the playoffs.  I would rather go into the playoffs unranked and when a few games than be in the top 10 but be one or two and out.

Ya it puts a target on you, and yes you get everbody's best shot, but that's all part of it.  You know that, and it makes it fun.  Besides, ranked teams don't rank themselves.  They play to win and earn respect.

This statement does sound like you are taking a shot at the school and the kids.  Nobody said anything when PN-G was 10-0 and ranked last year.  Because you are not having the best of years, don't down play the rankings now.  I think personally that when whoever lines up across from Brenham in 2 weeks and sees that #2 along with their name, they will have already lost the game cause it will be in their heads that this team is better than them.

Just a little FYI, I would put my money on it that if PN-G or any other school in this area played PA Memorial or WB in the first 2 weeks, they would suffer a loss.  I am glad we schedule and play the big boys, it gets us ready for a tough district.  Those 2 losses mean absolutely nothing now, what matters is that we are 6-0 and district champs going into our last game of the regular season.  And yes we started a 15 year old as QB so he had some growing pains.  The coaching staff made the proper adjustments and here we are.

Personally I would love to see that #10 before our name.

Like I said, I wasn't taking a shot at them at all.  I never said a word when we were ranked last year.  I'm happy that Central is getting some well due praise by the voters etc.  My question was what changed since those defeats...this wasn't taking a shot at Central.  I've never been a fan of polls whether it's HS or College...it's all about how hot the team is at the time your playing them.  I never said that other teams would not lhave lost to them playing them early on..heck, even though it was a scrimmage, PAM beat us and many were giving PNG fans a hard time about it because we lost to a team that had a good playoff run the previous year.  That said, I try to call it like I see it....when a PNG kid is up for player of the week, I vote for who had the best game and put up the best #'s, not whomever may have been nominated that plays for PNG...so don't assume you know anything about me.  I'm not on this forum to talk trash about the team PNG plays in whatever particular week.  Yes, we had a good year last year and we have had our troubles this year on defense..that's no secret...but what is important for PNG is how they are playing now...moving #31 (cant spell his name) to defense has had a major impact on the defense.  I would like to think that PNG wins vs Central, but I can't honestly say as I haven't seen any of Centrals games and only a few of PNG's via the internet replay since I don't live in the area anymore.  If PNG loses, they lost to the better team plain and simple.

So basically the answer is that the Central qb was young and had some growing up to do (which he has obviously done) and then the obvious adjustments here and there that the coaches saw on film.  That's all I was asking for.
Thanks,

Central and WO-S in the top ten after Friday
Kirbyville hasn't moved in a MONTH... >:( >:( ;D

Hard to move up when the teams ahead haven't lost.  I still think Lovejoy should be ranked #2....The state champion will either be them or Brownwood.
I have just now read your post and didn't feel like you were taking a shot at us.  Yes, my brother Jag , Big Ford, is right.  Our young QB was not ready for play against good 5a competition, and took some beat downs.  But there were more.. Depth hurt us.  Being at the Memorial game and sitting for a half on Memorial side, Titan fans were asking where all our players were.  As the weeks went on, I assume we moved some kids up from JV.  Our Defensive line then started playing better.  With Alfred as the catalist (sp).  Also, as the year went on, coaching improved drastically.  Jags have found their identity on both sides of the ball.  We are not an I formation team this year.  We are Singleback, with Heard the engine that makes us go.  We are a spread team with the young gun throwing lasers for TD strikes.  A lot of little things, but this is what have changed since the begining of the season.  And I love the way we look now.  Still room to get better.  Once this happens, we will be ready for the likes of Friendswood and teams like that...
