I don't understand your comment.Ā  I know it's football.. I was eluding to it seeming as though everyone makes all district.Ā  At least sometimes it seems that way.

I think it was done ok (as far as number of positions picked). In our district, 11-4A D2, you have a several different offenses and several different defenses and you have to compensate for such. Offense 1QB, 1FB, 4RB, 5WR, 5OL, 1K, 1KR. Defense 4DL, 3ILB, 4OLB, 4CB, 3S, 1P, 1PR.Ā

True enough.Ā  And it inevitably happens every year.. for some districts, the picks will come out and I think to myself how ridiculous it is.Ā  Only to blame political correctness, parents, and small districts.Ā  Oh well.. it never changes and likely won't.Ā  I applaud the schools that try to do it right and congrats to the kids.. because they can't help it either way.

I can't help but think back to not too terribly long ago when very few teams were "successful" (playoffs) in districts that were much larger and very few kids got accolades.. making it more meaningful.Ā  But that's just me.Ā  Rant over.

I agree, it should be an honor that is earned.

Too many coaches don't care, andĀ  they don't want to deal with the upset parents.

Too many coaches don't care, and they don't want to go to the trouble of actually making a decision on who is better.

Too many coaches don't care, and they don't want to upset coaches in their district by not voting for certain kids.

Too many coaches don't care, and they think just because a kid was on the district championship team that he was the better player.

Appears you got this figured out, got kinfolk, (ex inlaw actually)who has a nephew on one of these lists. Hope he doesn't take it too hard when he finds out it's probably rigged. Just tell him,Ā man you earned it, you didn't play for the championship team, your coach's caring is beyond question, those alone should help your credibility. Maybe one of these experts will publish his own list. If you make that one you'll know you're the real deal, you earned it bruh..

    • Sure.Ā  You reassign an employee and they leave voluntarily instead of being fired and being open to litigation.Ā  The outcome is the same, but you are making my point.Ā  The superintendent and AD and principal are all empowered to make personnel decisions.Ā  Instead of accepting the decision made, you talk about lawyering up, no one else was reprimanded, railroad job.Ā  I am old enough to remember when high school sports taught life lessons...accountability being chief among them.
    • I know absolutely nothing about the situation, but I do know head coaches of sports other than the AD have actual teaching assignments, and I know from my wife having worked in the sped department of multiple schools that itā€™s not uncommon at all for coaches to shirk those duties. Ā It could very well be that this was the case at BC. Ā Or not, I donā€™t know. Ā Just bringing this up to point out the fact that, although many coaches only want to worry about coaching, they generally have several other responsibilities at the school. Ā some of them neglect or ignore these duties entirely. Ā If heā€™s been written up for other issues before, itā€™s a dumb argument to say ā€œhe was punished for this and others were notā€. Ā If he had a pile of write ups in his file and they did not then it makes sense that the punishments were different. Ā
    • He wasnā€™t fired, he was reassigned and people get reassigned all the time. If he was actually fired, then you would have a point, but he wasnā€™t fired. Based on the information presented here no way this would stand if they fired him and he lawyered up.Ā
    • I heard the assistant was going to get this job and assume it was referring to the old Vidor coach, Nate Smith.Ā  I always thought he did more with less at Vidor and can't help but think he shares some responsibility in Vidor's recent success.Ā
    • Classic Bridge City.Ā  Always someone else's fault, refs/umpires cheated, AD with an agenda, yada, yada, yada.Ā  As far as I can tell it's damn near impossible to get fired at these schools so when someone does get fired, it's usually something.Ā  Drama at Bridge City is a constant.Ā  The guy did a good job coaching basketball and I'm sure he'll continue that somewhere else.Ā  Time to move on.
