I could talk forever about this..  I have quite a bit of first hand knowledge about the way kids feel about this subject.  I don't agree with the kids when they want to quit one sport to "focusing on one sport" but understand reasoning why they quit especially in JR. and SR. year...
Keep these two things in mind. It you agree with these two statements then you can understand:
Multi-sport kids should be pushed to play what they want to play... Kids should be never be mandated to play any sport.. All repercussions fall back on the AD... It's the AD's program.  If they mandated it, the AD has to take responsibility.. even in accidents...
Good AD's know how to navigate multi-sport kids. They inspire the want to play. Bad AD's do not and cause tension inside their entire athletic programs.. this is when you see kids that contribute in one sport quit usually after 10th grade year..  Really bad AD's have caused so much damage that the kid quits being a multi-sport athlete (quits football) after his 8th grade year. He never even gets to coach them in high school. Again I could get very specific but not gonna.

I have a question... I keep seeing the word "elite coach" and it looks like certain teams have it figured out.  Is it really the coach that made the difference or the change by UIL districting with the change from separation from 5A-DI and DII??
Looking at PNG's losses the last two years... besides Oak Cliff.. the teams they lost to were beat by WEAK 5-D1 teams and out the first round.. (22-23 Marshall beat by a very weak Crosby team that finished 4th and out first round) (23-24 PA Memorial finished 3rd and out first round).

Crosby is adding 20 min each day, starting a week early (7th), taking away small breaks(except labor day, MLK, and good friday), still getting basic week breaks(Thanksgiving, 2 weeks Christmas, Spring Break), going to 5 day weeks during month of April, and ending on May 30.

in Jr. High in Lumberton back in 87 we had a coach suit out and play against us in practice. He was 6'4'' and built. One kid on the A team lit a B team kid up on kick off... the coach ran across the field at full speed.. just when the kid turned around he lit him up.. both feet off the ground and slammed him on the ground and started barking at him about taking cheap shots... could you imagine the law suites today and media exposure??

don't crawfish.. you stated he was on a growth plan.. that is PRIVATE information and not public info IF IT IS TRUE! The only ones that would know that information is Administration/board.. the only way, if true, that you would know that info is if YOU are the source... which is against TEA guidelines to spread private info.. or someone is Administration/board told someone...  which is against TEA guidelines to spread private info... or you just made this up..
there are grievances for a reason!! Do you not see the big problem here??
You just brought up a whole new element, Superintendent  should lose his job... IF TRUE!

I will say this about Crosby.. It had its problems with overspending with a Superintendent that had repercussions but now is back STRONG.. Some of the best Athletic facilities in the state, New School and pays very well... Almost 20%/10K MORE a year in teaching salaries than PNG.. PNG is falling behind in these areas..

hear is the realization and then I'll stop.
College ball is not what it is cracked up to be. D1 and down..  Workouts at 530am, day filled with school, 2pm meetings, practice till 730pm, and mandatory tutorials. Its a 530am-9pm a day job. No time for socializing and and enjoying the College experience...  a player really has to enjoy the process to be happy. Hence why so many return after the 1st year.
Here is the real truth that parents need to hear from ALL coaches.. high school-select(and be wary of anyone who is requiring money for services and tells you different..): College is only allowed 11.7 scholarships to give out to a 35-50 man roster. Most colleges will bring in 70+ (12 catchers) in the fall and let some go by start of spring.. Its a cut throat business..  Most kids, if they get any kind of athletic scholarship, are lucky to get 20%-30%. Very, very seldom does a player receive a full ride. If you are a parent or player and are spending all this money for travel ball, lessons, and exposure as a investment for school... then really just save that money and put into savings or investments for College costs... you will come out way ahead.. and your kid will be happier enjoying the college experience.
If you are doing these and spending the money to: help you kid's skills to help him become a better player and teammate, for the kids enjoyment,  better understanding of the game, to help him learn life lessons, family fun.. really anything other than the expectation that your child will receive a college athletic scholarship.. then by all means do it..
I would also stress the importance of GRADES to your child.. grades, class rank, SAT are EXTREEMLY important.. academic scholarships along with grants for low socioeconomic are the deciding factors in recruitment.
Sorry, all this talk about baseball college recruitment has got me fired up.. so many do not understand the reality and there are many who take advantage of that situation and it is upsetting.

I'm not TradenupBH but I can see why his post is directed towards you. I think it has to do with the concept you and longball24 are vocalizing. The concept that a Freshman is not D1/college material if he does not start on Varsity is a dangerous and destructive belief especially when you vocalize it. Parents and fans need to understand the process and realize statements like this is causing damage to kids.  Kids and parents listen and will believe statements like this cause they have no first hand knowledge about the subject. I have seen kids completely devastated cause they did not make varsity and drag up. I have seen kids completely break down in a dugout and cry cause they were not successful at the Varsity level as a freshman. I have seen freshman kids refuse to go down to JV/Soph teams so they could get the experience and boost their self-confidence cause of this stigma.. They dont understand the skill/age difference (14 vs 18) and they would rather ride the bench.. I have seen the devastation these statements cause so I take it personally.. I think if more people understood the process and trusted it things would be better for the players and their families.

Just a concept to think about

Agreed up till last line.. I can name PLENTY of local D1 players that did not play Varsity their freshman and some not until their Jr.  year.. heck I can name some local talent that played PROFESSIONALLY in the Majors that did not make Varsity till their JR year in the 4A level..

I find this real interesting (being sarcastic):
The PNG Head Football/AD position is NOT posted on Texas High School Coaches Association web site. That is going to limit the applications... look at WOS... Administration did not post on THSCA and only 13 applicants...
IMO they got their guy already.. really no surprise. like I said people already know.
PNG nation will be happy with him.. Good Coach with a lot of experience at multiple levels of football.

I don't understand why people think that if they do not get a particular person that the whole athletic department will go into the crapper. Just cause the community wants one person does not mean they will be the only one that can be successful.. WOS is WOS.. they have the athletes and community support.. That is what is creating the winning tradition not just a small group of Coaches.  winning is NOT going to be a problem WOS..
PS.. the community wanted someone else in Crosby, they did not get their wish and now have played more games in the last 2 years (31) than any other 5A.. Just saying

I always find it funny how Coaches that have a winning history talk about how they don't have many "Players/Athletes". That it is all the program.... If they were doing well in just one sport I would agree but don't let him fool you.... they got DUDES!!! In the last 2 years basketball went 62-15 (Reg quarter-finalist/ State runner up) and baseball 43 - 7 (season cut short.. ranked #2, and Regional Finalist) with out having Athletes... sorry don't buy it... sounds great in a interview though..
