Faircloth had been an assistant at Austin Westlake and Highland Park, and an OC at Odessa Permian. He’d been a part of multiple state championships at the first two, and his offenses had shattered multiple records on deep playoff runs at Permian. That experience paid off - it’s got a lot to do with why he went 11-1 in his very first season as a head coach.

Langston doesn’t have any of that background, and has a 5-5 record in his first season as a high school head coach. And if we’re going to look at the big picture, Langston may very well be a nice guy, but he’s got a history of NCAA violations that cost him his college career.

No doubt they should have kept BF. But just cause you come from great programs does not mean you will succeed as a HC/AD. Wins and losses are not necessarily a indicator either. I can think of a local coach that has had success at Lamar, SFA, University of Florida, and recently Central Michigan that was a HC/AD at a local school and his record was 0-20 in his early years. Coach Alverez was 5-15 his first 2 years at Ennis. Then won state 2 years after that.

Do you think Pevey's decision to leave could have been IN PART is he "seen the writing on the wall" on up and coming athletes?  A 5-5 record his first year could have been a major accomplishment.

I'm just saying IMO winning is not a definite at PNG. it takes the right kind of mind and qualities to succeed there. I believe if he is chosen to be Chief, He will be good.

What is his win loss record? Nice guys finish last.

If you are looking at wins and losses only then you do not see the big picture. If that was the case BF, the PNG Head Coach with the most wins in PNG history, should have never got the job in the first place. He was never a head coach before he got the job. BF has great qualities that helped PNG's success. I see CL, that has those same qualities, doing the same..

I love this post. If mom and Dad would do a little homework and try to find out what it takes to be a D1 prospect they would soon see it is all about Velocity. There are crooks behind every pitchers mound that will tell the kids if they just have command they can play college ball and when their senior season comes around and they are below 85 and no one is looking at them  all the time and money are down the drain. So more than likely reality has set in and that is the reason they are not playing. If you are a D1 prospect you will start as a freshman.

Agreed up till last line.. I can name PLENTY of local D1 players that did not play Varsity their freshman and some not until their Jr.  year.. heck I can name some local talent that played PROFESSIONALLY in the Majors that did not make Varsity till their JR year in the 4A level..

OK, I'll bite.  There should be a reason for making this statement.  So, what is your reason?

to name a few without deep thought:

Very experienced: Coached at multiple levels, knows how to adjust due to players abilities, Very knowledgeable about multiple sports, has many collegiate contacts to help player recruitment.

Personality: very approachable to community and kids, honest, full of integrity, high level in intensity, knows how to communicate well, knows how to lead by example, kids respond to him.

He knows the community and how it operates(very important at PNG).

I’m sure there referring to Chuck Langston. When they mention multiple levels I’m sure it’s him and not JDC. Chuck lived in PN for a good while and even worked for Faircloth for a small time frame. He is very respected here as a person and a coach. I always thought Faircloth would take a better job and had hoped we could get Langston here. This isn’t how I wanted to go down but I hope he puts in for the job. I think people need to realize he has always had Faircloth’s back and   wouldn’t do anything behind the scenes to hurt him or his family. He’s been fired and for a coach and especially his family it’s tough. I don’t think any board member has chuck as there guy. I hope he does apply and all the toxic bs doesn’t deter him but I’m not sure he will. We couldn’t get a better guy to run our athletic program and mentor our boys. He’s doing a great job at west brook and they love him there. Whoever gets the job I’ll support like just like I’ve supported png since I moved here. I would love it to be Chuck but if not best man for the job. CT

99% Correct.. Chuck is a great man and perfect for this job. I agree with everything stated except the statement in bold. From what I'm hearing its his to turn down.. but again.. JMO

  6. I find this real interesting (being sarcastic):

The PNG Head Football/AD position is NOT posted on Texas High School Coaches Association web site. That is going to limit the applications... look at WOS... Administration did not post on THSCA and only 13 applicants...

IMO they got their guy already.. really no surprise. like I said people already know.

PNG nation will be happy with him.. Good Coach with a lot of experience at multiple levels of football.

A sad bunch. Where are the local guys, assistants from winning programs, "elite" coaches?

    Nothing?

I sure the local guys knew who they wanted and realized they had no chance. As for people outside the area... I don't believe the job was posted on Texas High School Coach Association web site... Usually Coaches take this as a sign... "don't apply.. we got our guy.. this is just a formality"..

You think one school board member has that much power? If they forced out Faircloth it had to be more than one person. If you don’t think the IPad was used for filming you are just ignorant.

Absolutely that one board member has that much power. That person.. along with another board member that did not like BF for political reasons..(not going to address this on a public forum).. have a lot of pull with other board members.. I know that for a fact... As for the IPad thing... I know how it was used for a fact... seen it.. it was not used for FILMING. PERIOD!! rules state you cant have a IPad in press box for any reason.. they served there punishment and moved on.

  9. 33 minutes ago, ATL4 said:

I think Faircloth is an exceptional offense coach and his success can’t be denied in his many years at PNG. That being said many people are acting like the sky is falling. Faircloth had many red flags. So many assistants leaving over the years. The IPad situation was a complete embarrassment and was kind of swept under the rug. I don’t believe the administration forced him out or they would have after the IPad situation. I think PNG will hire the right coach and they will continue the success they have had. With Sulphur Springs going from 5a to 4a I also believe Faircloth will be success there. Why are so many people upset? That’s what I can’t figure out.

    lets address your "red flags":

Assistants leaving; almost all of the assistants that left PNG left for PROMOTIONS.... they left for Head Football/AD positions, OC, DC, Head Coach in other sports, higher paying jobs or Admirative positions. His long time DC left so he could market himself in other areas. Please address these "red flags" as a absolute complement to the man not a insult.

IPad thing: yes it LOOKED bad. I agree.. but not used for filming hence why there was not a outcry or a "swept under the rug." It was investigated.

As for why you don't understand why people are upset: There is no doubt this whole thing is political. A board member cant do what he did towards the end of last season in front of people and it NOT GET AROUND. If you have not heard what he did then I can see why you have no understanding of why people are upset.

As for BF I have the upmost respect. He could have lashed out. He could have made public the actions of certain people by going to news outlets. He could have giving in to political complaints or slowed down effort on preparation for feature games. Instead he chose to take the high road by keeping his mouth shut, concentrating his efforts on the kids, and looking for a different program after the season was over.  He is a great man and deserves the upmost respect. I wish him nothing but success in his feature endeavors.

That being said I believe the next Chief will do fine. The PNG community does install a mentality that makes them PNG. The honor, pride and tradition is like no other school.  I just hope the next one, (which most already know who's job it is to take/turndown) chooses to do things the right way for kids sake.

    per NFHS rules

“6.2.4 SITUATION I: With R3 on third base, F1 starts his pitching motion and B2 requests "Time," but the umpire does not grant "Time." B2 steps out of the batter's box with both feet and (a) F1 delivers a pitch, (b) does not deliver the pitch or (c) throws a wild pitch. RULING: (a) The umpire shall call two strikes on B2, one on the pitch, and one for stepping out of the box. In (b), the umpire shall call a strike on B2 for stepping out of the batter's box. The balk is nullified. In (c), two strikes shall be called on B2, one on the pitch and one for stepping out. The ball remains live. (7-3-1 PENALTY)”

“7.3.1 SITUATION 😧 B1 steps out of the batter’s box (a) without requesting time, or (b) after he has requested time, or (c) fails to enter batter’s box within 20 seconds. RULING: In (a), the umpire shall call a strike if he feels B1 delayed the game. In (b), if the umpire grants time, the 20-second count will begin again as soon as the ball is declared “live.” If time is not granted by the umpire and B1 steps out of the batter’s box, a strike shall be called on B1 if he delays the game. In (c), the umpire shall call a strike. The pitcher does not have to throw a pitch.”

If the pitch is thrown it will called a strike no matter where it goes. The second strike is not automatic but can be called if the umpire judges the batters actions to have delayed the game.

So yes a batter with one strike on him will be called out on strikes if he steps out of the box, a pitch is thrown and he is judged to have delayed the game.

I see it says steps out with both feet. what about steps out with one foot?

Your missing the point.Toby knows WOS offense and defensive scheme. You hire someone from outside and they may change what has worked for WOS through the years. You change that and you set yourself up for failure.Seen many of programs with lots of athletes that never succeed.

Scheme?? do you think DH/CT/TF are the only ones that run spread with 10/11/20 personal?? the only ones to run that kind of Defense?? The only ones that has those plays?? you think they made these up and are the founders and are the only ones who can have success?? Who is to say that a outsider can't come in and actually do better!

WOS is WOS not solely because of the AD's program and schemes. WOS is WOS because of they type of Athletes the community produces. It starts a flag football and the pop warner program. I have seen the type of practices and work ethic the community demands of their football at a young age. When they get to High School they have a edge already!

I personally think almost anyone who gets this job will be successful as long as the community gives the new AD, who ever it is, the chance. Scheme is easy when you have the players.

  12. I don't understand why people think that if they do not get a particular person that the whole athletic department will go into the crapper. Just cause the community wants one person does not mean they will be the only one that can be successful.. WOS is WOS.. they have the athletes and community support.. That is what is creating the winning tradition not just a small group of Coaches.  winning is NOT going to be a problem WOS..

PS.. the community wanted someone else in Crosby, they did not get their wish and now have played more games in the last 2 years (31) than any other 5A.. Just saying

  13. Mr. Ump,

I have a question that was told to by a umpire and wanted to check:

batter is in the box calls time and steps out of the box.... home umpire does NOT grant time and a legal pitch is thrown...

I was told it is a automatic strike... I was also told that if the pitch is a strike it counts as 2 strikes... so if the batter has 1 strike already called on him.. and the pitch is in the strike zone.. it counts as strike 2 and 3 and the batter is out...

    IS THIS THE RULE??

People on the neighborhood watch are typically people who do not care about sports. They care about minding the gap at DQ. What just blew up and whose dogs are out running around.

I would estimate we have roughly 5,000 fans show up to the game on Friday nights. Ten to fifteen percent of those leave after half time. Some are students and others are just there to socialize. I would say out of those 5,000 maybe 500 care enough to even know who all the coaches are. Now take that number and look at how many of those have a friend on the board or in admin. Then you see that there is a very small group that actually cares enough about football, the team moving forward and don't have a tie in that could cause grief by making a post and you have your answer why there is nothing on Facebook yet. I have heard so much speculation but nobody has the balls to post what is really going on. After the fact is too late to start spilling the truth. So here is a running list of the rumors I have heard.

    1. His defensive coaches don't like him because he steals all the talent for offense.

    2. The old guard group don't like him because he didn't hire PN-G guys when he first came in and treated some of the older guys with no respect.

    3. He doesn't play board members kids enough.

    4. Admin don't like him because he asks for too much.

    5. He plays favorites and allows the better players to slide and makes examples of the lesser players. (This is a PNGISD problem) If your parents are tied in with the right friends your kids don't go to ISS or get reprimanded for the same issues other students do.

    6. He voted for Joe Biden. (I don't know that but I might as well add my own stupid rumor)

    Check:

first part of number 2, and number 3. the rest is just false..

All you have to do is look at the board or Sup.. when you win as much as he has and not renewed.. its on the board or Sup... all you have to do is pissed a leader or two off, and the rest will follow..  they are all very close.. look and see if there is someone on the board that has a son not playing currently/or did not play in the past as much as they thought they should.. this would cause resentment...

Now check if there is someone they are good friends with that has moved back to the area that is a Head Coach...

And you will have the truth to the answers: why not renewed and who will be next.

Agreed, This is quote from Liberty Hill Coach Jerry Vance who started using the slot-t in the mid 2000’s who won a couple of State Championships.

“We don’t have great big kids. There isn’t a lot of 4.4-speed at Liberty Hill,” Vance said. “What we do lends itself to the average high school kid. It’s not about being bigger or taller or even faster. What we do is about execution. We do what works for us.”

And if that sounds like a complaint, it isn’t.

“I’d struggle to coach the elite kids. I do better with the workmanlike football player with us running an unselfish system on offense and defense. We don’t need a back to carry the ball 30 times for us to win a game,” Vance said. “If we’re willing to work hard, we’ll be successful. It isn’t about the individual. It never has been. That’s why we win.”

Liberty Hill was the perfect fit — a workman-like rural town on Highway 281 between Georgetown and Burnet. The Panthers suffered through a long-spell of losing before Vance’s arrival from a previous stop as a coordinator at San Marcos High School.

“I’m not a rah-rah guy. If I need to get you excited for a game, you’re doing the wrong thing. We don’t have 1,000 jersey combinations or anything like that,” Vance said. “Liberty Hill ended up being the perfect place for me, as a coach and for my family. It felt like the right fit when we took the job and it ended up being the perfect situation. I was fortunate, no doubt about it.”

I always find it funny how Coaches that have a winning history talk about how they don't have many "Players/Athletes". That it is all the program.... If they were doing well in just one sport I would agree but don't let him fool you.... they got DUDES!!! In the last 2 years basketball went 62-15 (Reg quarter-finalist/ State runner up) and baseball 43 - 7 (season cut short.. ranked #2, and Regional Finalist) with out having Athletes... sorry don't buy it... sounds great in a interview though..

I'm hoping for a Lindale vs Corpus Christi Miller matchup in round 4. CC Miller averages 58 PPG this season. If you haven't checked out their scores from this season you will be amazed. The over/under for that game would be 100 lol.  Plus,  the Houston area is in the middle of both teams so that would definitely be worth the drive.

this is the 4th round. I think you were meaning 5th (state simi-final). IMO Kilgore will win this game. They have some dudes on D. LB's and Safety are really physical and can tackle 1 on 1. If they can prevent turnovers (unlike last time they met) they will win this game by 14+.

  17. Whether you agree or disagree with the reaction to Covid-19 doesn't matter.. masks and social distancing is the reaction that we have to deal with or they will shut things down.

I with some of y'all.. i believe your right... this may have been blown out of proportion by the media... this is a extremely political virus.... wearing a mask sucks and really does help that much unless you wear a N95 mask.... the Flu is worse on these kids than Covid-19...

But the way I feel does not matter when it comes to the kids. The reaction is if the virus spreads they will shut down athletics/school and that would be devastating to these kids.... if you dont believe me ask the baseball SR's and parents last year.. looking into their eyes and having to telling them that everything they worked for 4 years, that they would not get the chance to compete for their goal...  It was one of the most painful things I had to do in my life and I DO NOT WANT TO DO IT AGAIN...

UIL has already been in contact with districts that showed they were not following the guidelines.. which means if we all dont obey the guideline they will shut it down.

So I will do the things needed to make sure they have the chance to compete.. I will wear a tutu if it that was a reaction to Covid-19 for these kids.   I will continue to wear my mask for 12-14 hours a day even though I hate it.  I will social distance as much as possible. I will ride kids and parents about the dangers on not social distancing. I hope everyone takes as much precautions as they can..   So please, even if you do not take precautions for yourself please do it for these kids.

Well, I wonder how many times the following will happen:

Fairfield, who had a player showing COVID-like symptoms, canceled its scheduled game with Brownsboro on Friday.  Brownsboro finds a replacement in Sweetwater and will play in Aledo this Friday.

Test comes back on the player with symptoms.......NEGATIVE.  Now Fairfield is scrambling for an opponent for this weekend because they canceled even though they didn't have a confirmed positive.

If  they are following/obeying the guidelines set by the UIL and State/TEA this should not be a issue. Just because you have one sick,  or even tests positive for Covid-19 does not mean you have or even need to cancel. If a player is masked when not actively participating in a drill or activity, that limits contact.

Really its not the extra-circular nor schools that are the problem. They are regulated, controlled, and sanitized daily for the most part.  Its the interaction of students OUTSIDE of school. I see people complain about Covid and yet allow their kid to go to friends house, go to party's, go out after school. These are the danger areas not school!

  19. need a ruling:

runner at 3rd, 2 strikes on the batter. 2 outs...

man on 3rd steals home, pitcher does not see him and has a legal pitch, the ball hits the man stealing home in the strike zone while the runners foot is on the home plate. strike would make it strike 3.

does the run count due to he was safe before the ball hit him? is it a dead ball or live strike three?

Yep, our season was supposed to be over so I’m allowing myself to post again. Despite Coach Prieto almost snatching defeat from the jaws of victory last week against Ned by not kneeling the ball, Code Red is back in the playoffs for the 14th time in 15 years.

Ned and PNG have no chance of winning their playoff games but Crosby is going to get a good matchup against FB Willowridge and BH gets a worse matchup against Houston Sterling but a very winnable one and an excellent chance for a couple playoff wins before they get Manvel.
