I think it’s pretty well-known that I’m not a big trump fan, but I don’t think anyone on here would put me at near his level, and I’ve repeatedly stated I’ll vote for him in the election.  The point i was making is that trump has put considerable time and effort into trying to install folks that repeat his wildest claims, or push out people who have dared to question him, at the detriment of the Republican Party.   He’s done this at all levels, from national elections down to small district elections like the one we’re talking about.  It really screwed the party in the 2022 midterms, where he was frequently able to influence who the Republican Party nominee was, but then they lost the general election because they were lousy candidates.  The most obvious instances of this was when his tv doctor lost to a walking, talking potato, and when his football player with an IQ of about 74 lost to that crook Warnock, but there were several other instances that eventually cost the republicans the massive gains they should’ve seen throughout the country in the middle of Biden’s massive failure as president.

Nederland 5$ is going to the booster club, perfectly fine paying that to go back into the program for the student athletes.

I disagree. These people are not mentally ill.
They are people who want to drown themselves in perversion and immorality. They are evil.

That's a mystery, but the reason may have been because he couldn't beat Nederland.
I recall the local news articles back in the 60s and 70s, when Watson was PNG HC, read "always the bridesmaid, never the bride".
Speaking of which, the next MCM should be interesting.

    A non sequitur:
When I left SETX in the 80s it seemed like lots of PNG folks were moving to Nederland. When I returned in the 2000s it seemed like folks were moving from Nederland to PNG.  The two towns are like an amalgamated area, except for the school districts, and especially athletics.

I just now googled Splendora.  It's in between Patton Village and Midline, south of Cleveland, in case anyone else besides me was wondering.  It boasts a small restaurant called Puebloritaville that looks interesting. Looking at photos of the stadium there, the home side looks big enough to accommodate the PNG crowd, all they'll need to do is switch sides, for a decent payday for them.

    1. I don't believe a new AD/HFC will readily change that type of existing culture that you're talking about, re student involvement across the board, etc.  I hope I'm wrong, maybe the new guy will know all about these things.  It could be that he'll just do the best he can with the current HS enrollment, but really focus on the youngsters from middle school on down, I don't know.
    2. After watching 16 live football games and halftimes this season I can say that (IMO) student involvement at ALL of the other high schools that PNG played was pretty low. I wondered at every game what the deal was, with purported enrollments, why the other bands and drill teams, etc, were so small.  Is it lack of money? Lack of tradition? What else? The only other band and drill team that came remotely close I think was Dayton.
    3. After watching a few of this season's playoff games (PNG), my older sisters and brother, who graduated in the 50s and 60s, remarked that everything was still the same, even the last names. The only "new thing" to them, (and to me), was the tomahawk chop thing. That's a lot of long time tradition. There are many schools that have merged over and over, changed mascots, colors, songs, and there's no tradition.
    4. Hopefully the new AD will have the secret, and Nederland athletics and other related activities will come back.

Amen......and spot on. One thing about our neighbor school across the tracks....If there's not a place for you to fit in, it's cause you don't want one. Lot's of good things happening over there. I've always been a Huge supporter of Monte and company but he's gone now and it's time for change. Nederland doesn't have all the home growns and 2nd and 3rd generation kids anymore. So many have moved across the river, and to HF, Lumberton etc.......This isn't as big an issue in PNG. Just not as many diehard born and bred Bulldogs(CULTURE). Everyone needs a place to live but, Nederland is saturated with duplexes , apartments, and rental property. Say what you will but alot of these kids aren't diehards and necessarily Bulldogs due to moving in, out and around too much. This is a leadership problem, and it's in the lap of our City leaders. The ISD is saturated with kinfolks, classmates and GOB's. This can lead to an environment of complacency. It's uncomfortable to discipline kinfolk. This isn't saying Ned is all bad, it's just time for change. Top to bottom, and not just the coaching staff.

Its a completely different culture across the board.  Barrow has caught a lot of heat and owns some of it but its a Nederland ISD issue.  I read a lot about kids playing multiple sports and all that.  It really goes to overall involvement.  PNG encourages a culture where kids are involved at a early age one way or the other.  From students doing broadcast during games, 75 girls in drill team, band, and all the way thru into their athletics.  Nederland needs to take a hard look at why their students are not getting involved.  I might be wrong but I believe if your a cheerleader or drill team at Nederland you are not allowed to participate in spring sports, but I know at PNG they can.  Why does one place have this type of participation in all there organizations and literally across the street their number shrink every year.  One answer culture.  Culture starts with your leaders and there is more than one leader at Nederland who should have to be answering these questions.  Barrow and a lot coaches are going to take the bullet for this and rightfully so but their is still plenty of people from Principal Natalie Gomez to our Superintendent who need to take a hard look at the type of culture they are creating around them.

I was just thinking out loud, actually.  But relative to him being charged with negligence, I think the DA has a good case against him, and Baldwin is grasping at straws. The fact is, he was the final link in the chain, and it was his responsibility to check the gun before firing it. Never take anyone's word for it, no he-said- she-said, it was his negligence that caused the death, in my way of thinking.

When I was a kid, or maybe a young teen, a friend of my dad's was at our house showing him a new shotgun. When I came in and was handed the gun for a look-see, I asked if the gun was loaded, and my dad replied, "I'm not going to tell you".  When I broke open the gun and checked for myself, (it wasn't loaded, btw), he proceeded to tell me to never ask if a gun is loaded, always check it for yourself.  I've never forgotten that lesson.

The article seems to blame Boeing, rather than Delta's maintenance, for issues with a 20-year old airplane. Anyway, yes, I agree that the airline industry is, and has been for the past several years, experiencing problems much more frequently than in the past. It's pretty scary.

It was. Very very very conservative game for PNG, both offense and defense.  By-and-large just run up the middle all game long, until they broke one for a 30-yd TD in OT. WOS defense line finally got wore down, basically.

My grandson was one of the 5 guys on that OSK, (not #24). He says that they ran that OSK probably 75 times that week.  I was thinking that was probably a little teenage hyperbole going on, but I don't know. They had 4 practices, since it was a Saturday game, and if they ran it, say, 10 or 12 times each day, then that's ~50 times. Anyway, who's counting. That's a nice tribute video.

With no data, my assumption is participation is down. This is based on anecdotes from Nederland people who at least claim to be aware of kids who might otherwise be playing who are walking the halls instead. And, it seems to follow that if a program isn’t doing well there’s at least a few who walk away. Participation goes up with success. PNG had at least one key player come back between Joseph’s first and second years. That might just be a coincidence (unrelated to the success in Year 1). Also, just given Nederland’s history of having good players, I assume those people still exist even if they aren’t on the team. The only other explanation would be that Nederland just doesn’t have good players right now, which I refuse to believe, and I strongly suspect a new coach will prove me right.

Very very true, dat.  And the coaches very well know it, including CJ. That's why certain players play. It just so happens that the team this year, and somewhat last year, was good enough to cover for them.

This thread has reached 6 pages and folks are talking about a lock, so I'll go ahead and comment with regard to the above politics-within-officials-orgs subject.  Did someone mention in an above post that this is recent?  Maybe they were referencing a particular situation "that recently occurred", not that politics is a recent thing.
I had two co-workers back in the late 70s that were officials, and I swear I heard them crying and griping almost on a daily basis. The more senior refs got the games with the bigger gate(s), and the refs with less seniority fought it out for the remaining games. It used to crack me up listening to them trying to figure out how to get to some of the more out-of-the-way stadiums (this was in the 70s).
I think the recent shortage of refs just follows the same recent trends, just like the shortage of school teachers, the shortage of bus drivers, and on and on.
    Anyway, happy new year everyone.

Mostly true.  But this years' group of PNG seniors never lost to Ned, from middle school through 12 grade, under both the Faircloth system, and then the Joseph system for the past two seasons.  *
