Sadly this is what happens when the state govt pushed charter schools in the first place and forced them to be part of the UIL if they desired

Great Coaching , and always a Super talented team but always seems as something is missing. Kinda hard to put into words but  Imo seems like they’re always  missing identity. Seems like  instead of having and forcing a style of play on their opponents they never  have a style to force on their opponents.  Instead Seems like their  focus when they face elite competition is always to adjust to the other teams game plan.

As far as last nite vs Clear springs .. when crunch time came Atascocita didn’t play to win , they played not to lose

San Antonio is cool. But there is nothing like the state tournaments at the Drum for all those years

Big congrats to United’s Wesley Yates on his nomination to the McDonald’s All American game.  So well deserved and couldn’t happen to a better young man.   We are all proud of you!

My aunt, my mom’s sister, & my uncle met in the hall at Wheatley high school. Jackie Carr was their class mate. I spoke to him briefly at my uncle’s funeral a few years ago. Coach Carr was still driving & getting around then.  I am not sure about now.

bayou city 713 reacted to Coach85 in Should UIL go to a three year stadium rotation for football state games?
The reason the attendance was down in NRG was because teams outside of Southeast Texas and Houston area don’t travel well. So yea the attendance is going to be low. When they don’t travel UIL doesn’t make as much money. That is a big issue. So in order to make money they accommodate the Dallas area teams so they don’t have far to go. I personally believe this is crap. Just because those teams don’t travel well all of the other areas have to go and spend their money just so the fans in the Dallas area are happy. I know some of the schools in that area say they can’t afford to travel. I can kind of understand that. Hell SOC couldn’t even afford to buy a uniform to fit #99 so everybody in stadium got a very unpleasant view of butt crack every offensive snap. But there are teams in Southeast Texas and the Houston area in the same boat. Why can’t we accommodate them? If I had to guess Jerry has a lot to do with this and the deal he has created with UIL.

I've been to AT&T 3 times for state now...AT&T has 3 plusses for me. I sit on the top row and I like the view at AT&T much better than NRG and overall it's a much nicer facility than NRG Also the food is much better at AT&T than NRG...now the bad I hate the fan experience at AT&T  there's no security to speak of so if you get up to get consessions or to use the restroom unless you're really friendly with the people near you or your buddy stays in the seats and waits for your return chances are good you won't have that seat when you return, I've never had that problem at NRG on a related note i almost saw i fight at this year's game because Port Neches fans couldn't wait to get seats from Boerne fans who hadnt even left yet once again Security was nowhere in sight...I also hate Dallas traffic more than Houston atleast in Houston people will give you consideration even though there's more cars...You won't find that in Dallas. Finally I'll close with this I hear people saying Dallas area teams has a home field advantage being close to home, while technically true I thought the teams closer to AT&T Stadium were just flat out better this year in coaching and talent with the exception of Franklin it happens I think the south will come back stronger next year

    Absolutely no.
AT&T is heads and above the best stadium to hold the state championship.
    Houston traffic sucks.
San Antonio traffic and stadium sucks.
Austin, who the heck wants to drive into that woke California invested piece of crap.
Every kid in Texas wants to play in Cowboys Stadium with the big screen.

NRG is terrible for most of the state. Long haul for a lot of schools to bring their kids. I'm not opposed to rotating it, but I think a venue so far to one side of the state is not a good fit for it.

They’ve had a nearly 100% black football team for years and years.   They had “favorable” demographics when they weren’t very good.   Along came Aymond, and they became good.   Under Kay, they are great.   The best program in Texas.

The demographics on the team didn’t change.   If anything, the hispanic population of the school has increased, and has ballooned their school enrollment, but most likely hasn’t aided in football participation.

Open enrollment doesn’t hurt, no doubt.   But I don’t think it would matter if Beaumont had open enrollment, or only had 1 high school, they are so far behind GPNS in football, whether it be culture, coaching, or talent, that they couldn’t compete.

Galena Park isn’t the only school district  that has open enrollment, and North Shore isn’t the only school that has favorable demographics to be dominate in football.

Give Coach Kay and his staff all the credit.   His teams are extremely physical, tough, and very well coached.   They are as equally physical on offense as they are on defense.   Most schools are not.

That program is much better from the Aymond days.

I think the Drum was vastly superior to the Alamodome.... once you got inside.  But getting inside was tricky.  The best parking is in San Marcus.  And like the man said, Austin is effectively closed on that weekend.  At least it's closed to things that really matter like the UIL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT!!!!
San Antonio is fun to visit and Alamodome access and parking are okay.  You do have that long walk under the tracks with the stinky bats.  The thing is that the Alamodome as a basketball venue is terrible.  The tournament needs to be played in an arena built for basketball and not on a football field.
How about the Ferrell Center in Waco?  if you can stand that much green it would be great.  Tournament tickets would be no problem.  It seats 10,000 for basketball.  Tons of parking with no bats or trains.  Waco is fun to visit too.  Chip and Joanna might show up.  There is a problem with accommodations.  Just like in San Antonio, most of the rooms in Waco and San Antonio are gobbled up by people going to that ridiculous thing in Austin.
Back in Austin they've replaced the Drum and now we have the new Moody Center.....  they built it on top of the only good parking for the Drum.  I guess they'll tear down the Drum next to make parking space for the Moody.  But the best parking will still be in San Marcus.  Or you could park in Waco at the Ferrell center parking lot.

I've been in & around Houston for 66 years. I went to Lamar Fleming middle school one year.  I heard too many horror stories about EO Smith. I would of stay at the old Silsbee Jr High than go to EO Smith.  I don't know much about the new charter
schools although I was a big fan of US Rep Mickey Leland; cried like a baby when he died.  I don't need no play of movie by a CME pastor to tell me the educated have been leaving places like 5th ward.  I lived it.
