1. Can a simple "LU" sticker for one's back window be had anymore? I can't remember the last one I have seen in the back of a car/truck's window? I have bought a new red truck and would like to place one in my rear window.
 2. Here's the story from the Chronicle. [Hidden Content]

 4.
Testing all the students would be a logistical nightmare for a large school.  The school generally gets notification very shortly before the sample is taken.  For a large school all students in athletics means hundreds of students.  The school personnel are used to "proctor" and UIL supervises.  It means substitutes for teachers, coaches, etc and an intrusion on the school day.  I am not sure of the "random nature" of the tests.  WB has been tested 3 years in a row, and strangely enough Christine Michael was randomly selected his junior and senior years.
I know LCM tested my kids when they went through. And one was not involved in sports, but because they did band and choir, they were tested. I remember them talking about being pulled from English and history to "go in a cup." I like the idea of testing, it is the timing that bothers me.

Just trying to get Leli through his last year of HS. Great site ANAFAN, thanks for sharing. I like their trajectory!
I feel your pain. I am just now getting my house back from both storms. I may have to move to North Texas when I retire. They only have tornadoes.  :o

 8. BTW: What are you going to test the coaches for? Blackberry cobbler? BBQ Sauce? ( Just picking coach, I would fail that test too.)
 9.

People in the work force get tested so why not test teachers/coaches/admin and especially bus drivers.
That is true but in my mind, what an adult does to his own body is his business from an employment standpoint. As long as it does not interfere with his job or endanger the public I don't really care. Now with teachers/admin, etc., I can understand the performance aspect of it. The employee needs to show up and ready to do the job. From a law enforcement perspective, I understand the fact that it can be a crime but is it the business of a school district to be enforcing or investigating criminal law? Their business should be to make sure that their employees show up on time and ready to do their job. If a substance interferes with that then it is an issue and even with a legal substance like alcohol. Children/students are a different issue entirely. What we do or require from or for children to protect them in no way has any relation to what an adult employee does. It is not tit for tat.
The drivers of school vehicles are already tested. The DPS did it to us during the middle of TAKS Tests this last year. We had to come up with people to administer the exams, and in truth, it sort of made us short proctors until they completed the drug tests. I was tested during a period in which I was taking prescribed pain medication for an injury, and informed the tester, and they wrote it on the paper, but then, I was not driving a bus during that time. I know we already are asked what medications we taking and some of us older ones take medications by the handfuls......
 10.
50,000 kids tested and 20 positives (some could be false positives) is .0004. Does this number tell me that there is a problem? No! I think paranoia creeps in and destroys our brains sometimes. I think as a society, we overreact to any situation that affects our ''kids'', especially when we can pay someone else to do our parenting for us. School is already nothing more than an 8 hour day care. We could certainly find better things to throw millions of dollars towards than steroid testing. We are graduating some kids that can't even spell their own name, but at least they aren't on steroids. Doesn't that make sense? Please don't give me the ''If it saves just one kid, then it is worth it '' speech, because obviously, it isn't. Why else would they decrease the program funding? It's mainly because there isn't a problem, but it will continue simply to satisfy the paranoids.
The kids who can't spell their own names is another story. I am going to retire one day and post an essay that'll tick-off the governor. I was in the Houston area when steroid first got "big." You knew they were on them. Acne, went from 150 to 210 overnight. They couldn't concentrate in class. They beat their girlfriends off campus. It was just nuts. And what could the schools do at that time? Pretty much nothing. Testing kids at least is an attempt to stop a kid from possibly having their liver give out when they are in their 40s.

 12. I spoke to some folks in Buna. They told me, they were sent the letter several months ago. Why did it take the Enterprise so long to flash it on the front page? Waiting for the new logo? :-\
 13. Let's test. If a kid doesn't use steroids due to the test, then the testing has done its job.
 14. Who designed the new logo? I like it better than the Penn State one.
 15.
I have stated numerous times, 4 teams is just too much. The only way to justify 4 teams qualifying for the playoffs would be if those 4 teams come out of at least an 8-10 team district. This 4 out of 5, 4 out of 6, or 4 out of 7 is ridiculous. I even think 4 out of 8 is bad. I wanted it to stay 2 teams, but I have no problems with 3. Going to 4 teams is just another way for the UIL to get more money, plain and simple. It has nothing to do with "the social needs". ::)
But it makes more people happy when it seems like everyone would be " included." You  and WOSgrad are right however, it's about the $$$$$$$$.
 16. You look at the generation we’re raising up ... you say those kids are used to getting more,” Breithaupt said. “They’re used to being in the playoffs. They’re used to an extra game and a trophy and being crowned. So maybe it’s just us fitting in with societal needs.” That tells it all. And they want to all make "As" and all be honor grads, and all be on the team. And do nothing to earn it....In my day, it was called S-P-O-I-L-E-D.
 17. I know nothing about soccer. I did watch some of the World Cup, but why if no public funds are being used, why would the Beaumont Enterprise be running a poll on whether the Cris Quinn Soccer Field be built????? I'm sorry, but that is a stupid poll question.
Also the endorsements will make up for everything, believe that. You'll see alot of Labrons Wade and Bosh commercials.
Yes sir, they'll be selling shoes, cars, sports drinks, shave cream, who knows what else......
 19.
I don't understand Wade getting less than the other two unless he pulled something as unselfish as taking less to help the team
I think LeBron might have moved to Florida, took less money, because he would wind up in the long run better off due to the fact there is no state income tax. ( Still don't make it right the way he did it....)
Listened to "Mad Dog" Russo on XM going to Beaumont this afternoon and he interviewed several people in the Cavs Organization. After I heard what he did, no matter how good you are, sometimes it is not worth it. - The owner of the Cavs called LeBron 4 times, left 3 text messages trying to get a heads-up of what to expect. LeBron refused to call or text him back. - Lebron insisted that many of his entourage be ferried with him on the team plane between games. - LeBron insisted that his entourage be hired by the Cavs in "make-work" jobs in which the person did little or no work. - LeBron would barely speak to the longtime play-by-play man, Joe Tait of the Cavs. Treated him pretty much as the "hired help." This is just what I heard in 30 minutes of travel time. On the way home I listened to classic rock. Enough of LeBron.
If he was this bad and the owner hated him, it didn't keep the Cavs from offering him $130 million. This guys reaction was tacky and childish. He's an idiot!
The team/city had invested so much in LeBron they couldn't do anything but hope for the best. Would I have lashed out like Gilbert? No. That said, I wouldn't have done a LeBron and led Cleveland on ( nor the Knicks, Bulls, or Clippers etc....) His entire ESPN "Me Fest" was awful. He kicked 4 cities in the head so it could all be about LeBron. If you want to go to another town to make more money, win a ring, that's America. I don't know who advised him, but the last weeks, it has been a disaster. The entire LeBron situation was classless.

 22. Did LeBron really need to go on the air to slap Cleveland? I sort of understand leaving, but why rub it in? ( I really don't understand. I work in an ISD in which I make $4000-8000 less than I could elsewhere. And yes, I have had a chance to leave.)

I went one time to Minute Maid about 3 years ago for the first time, was miserable, really couldn't see, the seat killed my back and the entire experience was well, boring. When I was a kid, I knew the starting Astros line-up by heart. Today, I think Berkman is still on the team. I still go to high school football games and find them exciting. I still watch the NFL on Sunday and really miss it this time of year. Heck, I went and saw a CFL game this past Summer when I was in Ontario an found it amazing.... I'm sorry, MLB just doesn't cut it anymore.
Your problem isn't with baseball it's the team that you choose to follow.  Everything about houston lastros baseball is bad!!!  The park looks like a warehouse, the uniforms are terrible (bring back the rainbow uniforms), you don't know the players because there are no stars on the team to keep you interested, and the farm system was emptied to go to one world series and get swept.  Don't hate the beautiful game of baseball because the lastros are bad.  Find a team that is worth watching and feel that childhood love of the game come back. When I live in the Dallas area in the 1980s, I would go and see the Rangers, just to watch Charlie Hough pitch. Texas was no barn beater during that time. In Spring 1986, I drove out of my way and saw an Arizona Spring Training game between the Giants and A's. Willie Mayes was coaching first base during the game and turned around and picked and teased with the crowd. ( It was a SS game and Willie was coaching first.) Yes, Jose Canseco was in the game and he and Dave Kingman put on the most amazing battling practices I have ever seen.( I take that back, I saw George Brett put on one better when I was in Dallas.) It ain't the same men, it ain't the same game. The thrill is gone. It is boring. If I were to switch teams, the question would be who? The Yankees? The Red Sox? I am about to do that about like I am going to vote for a Kennedy or give up Tony Chachere's.
If it has lost you, then why are you reading and posting on a baseball thread???
I wanted to see if Selig was going to push for instant replay, or stay in the Dark Ages.....The story was only the headline on all media outlets, CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, heck it was even on the BBC......and this was the first time I have visited the MLB site in months. Can't I even care that I would LIKE to enjoy the game again?
