1. JMO...This will be a wild race..Some teams that were ahead are slipping, while other teams are picking it up..There is really good balance across the dist. if you look at the scores. I say the veteran teams get it done in the end! Question is, who wants it the most?????????
2. No-Look I didnt miss your point and it was a good one!!!!! Basically what he is saying is that there are other players that are as good or better that are playing without any of the recognition. the media sometimes jumps on the kids that are playing multiple sports who actually only excel in maybe one, participate in several, or put on a uniform in all. There are plenty of kids that do alot of the dirty work, are stars in their roles, or lastly are flat out better than the kids who tend to somehow end up in just about every headline. It's sad, but it's a fact, and it does tend to get old!
3. Actually his name was Bryan Sallier from P.A. Lincoln, 1988. went to San Jac and then to Oklahoma. Kid was tough! Top 5 by position!!!!! 1. B.J. Tyler        Lincoln.  1989    ( Depaul/Texas/ Sixers) 2. Jamie Weaver  Ned.      1983    ( Uof H / Hawaii) 3. Damon Sweet.  Central  1988    ( Notre Dame)          Mavericks Camp/Overseas 4. Omar Sneed    WBrook  1995    ( San Jac/Memphis)  Rockets Camp/Overseas 5. Anthony Allen  Lincoln    1986    ( Georgetown) This would be a TEAM : True 1 who could score, Weaver 6'4 shooter who could score in bunches, played w Phi Slamma Jamma Group, Sweet, was just that, unreal leaper and scorer at N.D., Sneed, 5A player of the year who played on perimeter at Memphis, and last but not least, Allen beat shot blocker -rebounder in h.s. I've seen, could take one off the top of the glass iff needed.Note: Never saw Earl Evans, but since, seen em all!!!!!!!!
4. I agree mayor. To sign a D-1 scholarship in basketball means you have to be proven. Meaning you have to be really good in High School. Really good. In other sports a D-1 scholarship can be based on potential only. Schools look at the size and speed of a kid, and they think they can make him a player. With this being said, a kid that gets this attention may have done nothing at all at the h.s. level. Seen it a number of times. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it does not. Bottom line, big time schools, get big time players that are proven, the majority of the time! Like the ole story goes, little Johnny got a great work ehtic, big heart, big dreams. Big Johnny got some Cheetos and an X-Box.
5. Have to disagree wildcatter. Agree with alot of what you have to say. Parents dont realize how tough it is etc. And the guards in the southland are not 6'4or5. Lamar etc. not very big... But Dotty, with work can play the 2. If you are talking about D1 Kentucky type schools. No. If you are talking Lamar type Southland schools..Yes. Have you seen the kid from Deer Park? Just like Dotty. Not super athletic, smart, can shoot it, knows the game, and long,... tough. He has been seen and has played an awful lot. Dotty has done neither. Potential ,,Yes. Will he get a shot. He will have to get a late offer by playing this summer in Houston. Seen lesser players in the Southland. Will he play next year? No. But in time, he could become a good player at the college level. POTENTIAL and 6'4. Not potential and 5'9 and a half.
6. Actually, Dotty is real close. Just needs to play more and be seen . Has to get the right fit, work on his defense and get the opprotunity. Like I said , very similar to Walkup. His length is a huge advantage.
7. Yes Stallworth and Dotty, in my opinion are Sr.s that could play at the D1 level. Stallworth is long athletic and has potential to play on the perimeter at the next level. Dotty is long, knows the game, can shoot it and is a gamer. His size is the key. But he has to be seen and the school has to be the right fit for him.He can guard 2s and 3s at the next level when he puts on some weight. Reminds me of the Walkup kid that plays at Deer Park, and he has committed to SFA. Hopefully he caught someones eye at the Nederland Tournament. There were several scouts there watching games. K. Smith and the other guard at Nederland can play at the next level , somewhere. The Lane kid at Silsbee and the big kid at Ozen have a chance somewhere. Both have to keep improving.
8. We need the predictions, thats one of my fav. things
9. Hate to say it, but I've been on both sides. If you're winning by that much, the majority of the kids should have played. Some coaches play less kids, win big, and somehow fill their own ego!! Seen it too many times. Win yes, and let the other kids get some game time, confidence, and help them become motivated for the future. Sure parents don't get it most of the time. Bottom line is the coach will play who he thinks gives the TEAM a chance to win. Lower levels in basketball should have more kids playing in games period. They are about development, not necessarily winning every time out. Never seen a Fresh or JV team in the 2nd round!!!!!!! Parents love to see little Johnny out on the court, but most of the time Johnny forgets to go hard in practice.
10.
In spite of his dad, Colten Weisbrough(sp) from Nederland is a good athlete that could compete for a spot in Nederland's lineup.
i agree it wouldnt surprise me at all to see this kid somewhere in this batting order.
11. Agree, not only is it good for players and coaches, it's good for the fans. Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!
12. Dove you dont think Nederland and the rest of the district comes close to Ball and that district???????? Ball beat Ned by 5 last year. Where does your info come from??? Surely not the AAU circuit. Those guys that you see in the summer dont play together this time of the year!!!!!!!! Help me.
13. Wowwwwwwwwww. I'm glad its basketball season, but the last few posts on here are ridiculous...please be aware of what you are posting!!!! Sounds like an awful lot of whinning going on. PLEASE!!!!!
14. This is not a coaching problem. It is a system problem. System most likely will not change. Any coach would have the same issues.Let me say it again! Universssalll off-seasssonnnnn!!!!!!!!!!! WOW........... which means??????????????? Help me!
15. D.C. is a good player. But not the BEST in the area. Top 10 for sure! Got to get out more!!!!!!!!!!!
16. Again, to prepare kids for the college level, if parents actually have a kid with that kind of potential, a good high school program and a good aau team can work hand in hand. If a kid has to rely on an aau team alone, he will be missing out valuable information and experience, that will come from a solid h.s. program. I've said it before, the aau experience alone may do more harm than good. Seen some good kids get ruined from misinformation and coaches with an agenda. Gather facts, its a one shot deal, a good h.s. program is more beneficial for the mental approach to the game if anything. Look at the kids committed already. They almost all come from good h.s. programs and yes, they also play alot in the summer. AAu tournaments cant offer the experience that some kids get once the playoffs get kicked off. 9,000 at the regional tournament last year and 15,000 plus at the final four in Austin!! I think it's great to think and talk about the next level, but some kids forget about the level they are on now! Somethin to think about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
17. How did those come out Blue?????
18. ned doesnt even have to show for practice, and they can still take 1st. Practice cmon man its just practice ;)
19. Good players may not need h.s. basketball to get noticed, but they need it to learn how to play in a structured offense and defense. Its called a program. AAU forms bad habits. Nothing like kids going half speed in an AAU game and then trying to turn it up once they reach the semi-finals of a tournament and then see them start pointing fingers. Good High School coaches dont allow kids to go through the motions. Players need both the h.s and AAU setting to be at their best in my opinion. The AAU system offers great competition and  exposure for the next level ,while the h.s. setting offers coaching, structure, and more responsibility, with having to manage grades, practice, and teamwork. Accountability!!AAU is more of a hey look at me, instead of hey look at us! Example is Duke. Not the best players last year, but the best team. Those kids played AAu , but came from great H.S. programs! And finally, I understand there are Ex. Pros sometimes involved in these AAU programs. But involved means supporting financially mainly, some of those guys are trying to stay close to the game, not actually coaching. Heck thats too much work!!!
20. Wow Dove, you mean kids don't need coaching. They are that good? A kid will NEVER REACH HIS FULL POTENTIAL, if he isnt in a good h.s. program. Fact is , like speechless says, there is not a whole lot of coaching going on at the AAU level. Believe me, most of those guys are in it to enhance, yes, themselves. An AAU basketball practice? Love to see one! Yes kids develop through playing, but just like anything else, they will benefit greatly in a HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PROGRAM!!!!!!! SEEN IT!!!!!!!!!!
