This line of thinking is exactly what has created the downturn in society over the past several decades. Parents never pushing their kids to take personal responsibility for their choices or their role in bad situations. Even if all of what you said is true, your teaching your son to lay down and cry when things aren't fair. That's not a life lesson that will serve him well. I highly doubt Mac's staff would have lasted as long as it has had he run his program this way.

I would be willing to bet I could find hundreds of former HH athletes, and parents of HH athletes that would say the exact opposite of your post. Similar to life, there is nothing about athletics that is “fare.” Don’t point fingers. Talk to your son. Schedule a meeting. Hopefully y’all can get on same page with coaching staff. Airing your complaints on a public forum, does no good for anyone involved. I hate you feel your athlete is being wronged, however there is much more to life than HS athletics. Learning life lessons from a difficult circumstance could pay to be much greater in life than HS playtime. I hope your situations get resolved, and best of luck to you, your son, and HH.

The last time a coach left Hardin with his quarterback son they went to Carthage and helped win 2-3 state championships in a row. I hope history doesn’t repeat itself but we are talking about Hardin. And yes, they beat Hemphill in a playoff game in 2007.

Also, Dawson was out multiple times throughout the game. He was having ankle injuries which you can tell by the way he walked in the sideline and by the tape around his Ankles. Dawson isn’t the only player for HD, as you have 11 on both sides. So your comment to Coach didn’t want him hurt is irrelevant because Dawson stayed on the sidelines for half of the offensive possessions. I’m not dissing Dawson, as he is a good running back. I’m just saying that you need to give other Running-backs credit for trying their best. Jeremiah will be a key player in this weeks running game, but as I said before, that truly depends on his attitude and if he fights during the game. He also only played in five games last season, he didn’t really do much last year on offense with Bryce Aguirre and Devante Broussard controlling most of the run game. So I’m curious to see how you know so much about Jeremiah run game capability.

Well I think Coach Birdwell is a very respectable coach. He made the best with a bad situation with being a New HC/AD and not having time to work with the kids and other coaches until 2 weeks before the season. I do feel that you need to give him more time to adjust to the athletes and coaching staff instead of blasting him off of one game. Also, he didn’t dodge the hardin game. He did what was best for both schools and what was best for the kids who were sick. I think the Bobcats and Coach Birdwell need more credit for making the best out of a bad situation given the sickness and injury to the starter QB the day before a game. I think That all three running backs will need to get the ball. Dawson has the speed when he gets into open field, Jeremiah with his size, and Anders-Weeks with his strength could be a deadly combination. I think HD relies heavy on the Run game and it’ll be better to give the ball to 3-4 running backs instead of running two like work horses. With Sellers out, that’s all the Bobcats have which is the Run game.

Man, Coach Bird has gone from returning hometown hero to a poor evaluator of personnel with one loss. Geez, not much leash being given to such a beloved guy. Hope he is not already second guessing leaving a really good situation in Jasper to take on an uphill battle. Good luck Bobcats.

I've never said you couldn't coach. I never even said you shouldn't post. I've known you were you since the first time I saw JayBilas post after the death of DickieV (RIP). The only thing I've taken exception to is you disparaging the HF hire in public forum after you didn't get the job. Literally one of the most classless things I've ever seen, and you cloaked it in your "defense" of the other candidates. That's my issue with you.

You're right warden. I shouldn't have popped the top on ol Walt, but that HF thing really rubbed me the wrong way. Kinnebrew is a good coach and to be discredited as strictly a "football guy" who was hired because he had connections, by another finalist for the job was bush league. Yates should have been happy to even be considered based on what I know about his past in txhsbb. Either way, I'm off of it.

I am a school administrator locally and won’t divulge who, what, or why, but he (Yates) and I are close. I will leave it at that. This is not Walter Yates. I understand the urge to poke at him because you think I am him but I assure you I’m not. He’s a good guy that can actually coach, but had some tough growing pains early on in this coaching business. I think he is better suited as a college coach, but he’s changed quite a bit over the years. I take up for a lot of people on here in case you didn’t notice. lol

Lol, more gamesmanship than sportsmanship but gotta love Coach P for that. What got me sold on him isn’t that he had us in the final in his 26th game on the sideline at Crosby though.

My cousin is the head coach for the freshman team at North Shore. He’s also from Barrett Station and wanted to give back to the community by doing some summer workout camps at the neighborhood park. Somehow Coach found out about it and he showed up at the park to make sure his players weren’t being stolen.

For him to show up THERE to make sure 12 year olds weren’t getting hijacked wasn’t something I don’t the the last couple of guys would’ve done? Rancher making sure all his cattle stay in the pen so he can get them to market. Have to respect that.

Well.. and don’t quote me on all of this.. the way I understand it by how it’s been explained to me is as follows:  There are basically two different types of contract in education.  Administrative (Sup, principals, AD, etc) and I guess teacher contracts.  It may not be described as such.. Usually a buyout will only occur with an administrative contract and usually when the school wants or agrees to part ways with that person.  I would think so they could get the next person.. because the job has to be available in order to hire someone else.  Teacher contracts are usually given yearly in the spring sometime.. March, April, or so.  And I’m told that those contracts are generally signed immediately but not binding.  Meaning they have a certain amount of time to resign without penalty.  Whatever that may be.  But that’s what I meant about whoever replaces Hodges and potential assistants.  It might be too late for said potential assistants to get out of their current contract.  Meaning they wouldn’t be able to leave where they are.  Now just for example sake.. if Birdwell or Barrier were to take it, they’d both go from a teacher contract to an admin contract.  As I’m told, schools are usually more lenient in that case because it’s an advancement.
Even though I personally think it’d be a step backwards for either of them.  Currently anyway.

I’ll say it since nobody’s considering it..  there’s a certain time when it’s no longer legal for teachers to get out of their current contract.  For some schools.. that date may be passed.
Since he left so late, it’s likely going to cause the next AD/HC to be stuck with the football coaching staff that’s there.  I know a lot of times they like to bring their own coordinators.  Plus more.  I mean.. it’s practically July.
Food for thought.. that might deter some.

That is a good question. I’d think most years at HD (or any very small school with limited numbers for that matter) it’s more difficult to pull off running a spread offense due to personnel (capable OL and QB namely). I think with the experience and athleticism of Sellers at QB (20 or so starts at QB as a FR/SO) and the kids they’ll have on the line, Bird could pull it off. Now they won’t look like Jasper, but they definitely have some playmakers that can do damage in space. With that said, I think this late in the game (will be July before arriving) they’d stick with the Slot-T or some variation of it. Most if not all of the current coaching staff will remain which is another chip towards sticking with the old offense. Plus Bird knows it and ran it at HD in years past. It’s hard to install a new offense period….. much less one that’s complex…. With limited time…. And with little or no assistant coaches familiar with it. Just my $.02

Family reasons may play into it, but Hodges leaving is clearly tied to the drama that ended with the HD principal leaving for Liberty.

I’m curious if Ned Barrier might be interested in this one. His wife was just hired as the principal at HD elem and he has a lot of history in the community. He would be a slam dunk hire and since he’s not the AD at Hardin, it should come with a healthy pay bump. Not to mention, have you seen his soon to be 8th grade son? That boy is going to be special. He’d look good in red and black. The community of HD needs this right now. It’s fractured. The barrier family could begin to repair the damage done recently and being new life to the high school.
I like Bird just fine, but if HD had a shot at Barrier, a proven HC (see Brazos), then they have to take it.
