They start the season with Hargrave and Orangefield. That should tell alot about what to expect to see week 3. Maybe some of those fans remember what they ran last season. LCM played them too.

They will be the most athletic looking team you've every seen and will have two or three D1 commits, but they will be poorly coached, poorly disciplined and have poor character on the field. Jasper will beat them but not because they out talent them.

Coach Ware first season 0-10, next season 2-8. Third season 7-4 and third in district and now Dayton’s system is among of the best in the state?!? Then PNG system is among the best in the country… lmao thanks for the laugh but come on now…

Yes Dayton lost a lot, but that had one in the stable rehabbing from a pretty rough injury most of last year. Ashanti Allen Jr. Remember the name.

Thanks everyone! Looking forward to the next chapter and spending more time with my family, I'll still be around a posting things on sports independently for fun. No deadlines lol. I'm just a Has Been now!

Seriously though, local HS sports coverage in our area will suffer due to losing your coverage. We all truly appreciate the dedication you've shown over the years and we are excited for this new opportunity for you. Hopefully the next gen is ready to step up and grab the torch. If this site has taught me one thing in the past year or so, its' this, you don't know what you've got til it's gone.

Loyalty is a bichhh. Biggest regret was not taking mine where they were wanted. Instead my loyalty got the playing D3 and Walking on at UIW lol.

So your argument is your son played D3 and another son walked on at UIW because their high school coaches didn't do enough to promote them? I swear, some of you guys clearly don't understand how special a talent has to be to sign a D1 scholarship for football.

I don't know the guy, but unless he has family or a reason to be in the area, he's probably looking for a AD HC job to use as a step to the next place. Looks like he has never run the whole show and I bet he won't be around for long. Good luck to him and kudos to them for finding a guy at this late hour.

It's hard for me to believe that someone looks at the WH football program and thinks, "that's where I need to go to build my name".

Taylor did as good with them as anybody could, and his upward progression was Colmesneil.

  6. So, on June 21st, there is still no football coach at WH? Considering the fact the program just recently rejoined UIL after playing an outlaw schedule for a few years and they struggle with having enough players every single year, this may be the death nail in the program. Sad times.

It's a new day, with open enrollment schools everywhere parents are moving their children to a place where they have the best opportunity for success.

My co-worker's son was the starting QB for CE King two years ago, a new staff came in and said they were running a different system and that the QB job was probably going to go to a kid that just transferred in. Instead of keeping him there with the new coach my co-worker got an apartment in New Caney so his son could play there. He ended up leading New Caney to an 11-1 season and furthering his opportunity to play college football. He could've stayed and learned the lesson of dealing with adversity, but he transferred and learned the lesson that "if you believe in yourself you can create your own path to success."

As far as loyalty, one of Crosby's 8th grade QBs transferred to BH. The kid's dad is way more hard core Crosby than I am, and almost loyal to a fault. Now his son is in a 10x better situation because he broke that loyalty.

The kids aren't leaving just because of the coach. They're leaving because it's about to be July and they haven't ran a single offensive play or defensive set. Moreover, they don't even know who's on the coaching staff yet? Willis just put out a tweet last week asking for coaching resumes, but I'm sure in his interview he told the supt. he already had everything covered. Our supt. just isn't competent enough to vet things on the athletic side. It no surprise that the 6'3" receiver transfer you were depending on contributing this season hasn't shown up to a single workout after you say you want to run the ball 80% of the time. I would go ahead and count him as gone too. At the end of the day though, the head football coach will always have support from the parents of borderline kids who just want to see their kid get on the field.

Ummm, what you just explained about the NC QB is a violation of UIL rules and could cause NC to have to forfeit those wins if it can be confirmed. I hate to break it to you, but "believing in yourself" only gets you so far. Learning how to fight through adversity, compete no matter the circumstances, and adapt to a changing environment is what will help the kid actually succeed in life beyond football. I know the kid your talking about, and he's not D1 material and certainly not pro material. So what has his dad really gained him by teaching him to run away from adversity and take the path of least resistance?

Peevey sent out a mass text message to everyone. If you’re hanging round the house playing video games this summer and not at at school working out. It had a picture of bench on the sideline.

That's what I'm talking about! There is a reason this guy wins....Other coaches should take notice.

We haven't had a big play WR since Kyndon Fuselier graduated...back in the 90s we usually had a senior rb, junior fb,  big play wr, good qb play,  and tough defense we don't have that anymore sadly.

    What year was Jake Askew?

  10. Huffman should be on the way up in the next few years. The incoming Sophomore class, 9 of which contributed to the varsity squad last year as Freshmen, is the one to watch. Coaching is still a question mark in Huffman, especially with the likes of Peevey, Reyes and Dubois on opposing sideliens, but the potential is there. Should be a great district to watch in the next few years.

Not sure you can label him a "great player" just yet.

I personally could use more sample size to make that call.

I saw him play three times last year so I have seen him play.

You are also savvy enough to know he was a standout player as a Freshman, with the potential to develop into a great player. That is all anyone is saying here. Any illusions that he is the next coming of Matthew Stafford are exaggerations being made by those who clearly are rooting for the kid to fail (not referring to you). Kinda pathetic if you ask me.

Just my opinion but I see a problem with Barrier coaching his son. OC needs to coach the team not his son. Coach Neece is one of the best OC  and signal callers I have seen. He is going to call the plays best to win the game and not what is best to promote a certain persons stats. Anahuac would have a bigger loss with Greg not Calling the signals then they would with the QB leaving the team.  Going to see how this all plays out. Need to put a tracking collar on Coach  Barrier.

Now you are just talking out of your arse. If you watched Anahuac at all last year, you would've seen a noticeable uptick in passing attempts to the year prior. Neece clearly retooled his offense to build it around the QB and the athletes at his disposal. Try not to let your nephew's disappointment cause the truth to be blurred.

Coach said he (the son) would have been a big plus to the Nederland program and was disappointed he left. They thought it was a done deal.

I am sure as badly as the dad wants to coach the son, the son wants to be coached by his dad. If the story about the icy reception is true, coupled with Barrow talking like the son was the primary reason for pursuing the dad, I am not surprised they decided to go elsewhere.

Honestly, I would've preferred they just stayed in Anahuac to see what they could've done there. I think that team was primed to make some deep runs the next two years. I hope wherever they end up works out for them.
