  1. I have trouble believing that any of the coaches on that Newton staff asked an anonymous poster to come on a message board and slander some of the most prominent programs in the state. There are only three names that come to everyone's mind and they are all men of character and certainly not keyboard warriors.

    Another pretty big resignation:

BREAKING: Multiple sources confirm Manvel HFC Kirk Martin has resigned his post to take a job at the college level will be official in the next week

This stinks. During state championship weekend, we stayed in the same hotel as the Manvel team and I spoke with one of their assistants on Sunday morning. He mentioned that he had been at Manvel since day one and loved it there, and talked about how devastating the loss had been for him and the kids. This resignation will make it sting worse, and I worry that the man I spoke with that morning will be forced to work elsewhere. That game could haunt the Manvel program for many years to come. It's a shame.

The issue won't be the money, it will be that he has lost the thing that made the Crosby job great. That is their former superintendent Keith Moore. Moore resigned this week under some super shady predicaments and he was the guy that made sure Rio had everything he needed. That facility, those ball fields, turf, video boards, freedom to run the program as he wants, all those things were provided by Moore. Inevitably, Crosby will hire a new supt and Rio cannot ensure he will have the same support. Heck, most of the time those new supts want to bring in their guys.....that's how Rio got to Crosby with Moore. He is no dummy and will likely make the decision to get out before the Cougars stumble, go 4-6 or something, and he is told to get out.

It also should be noted that Riordan is apparently applying for jobs. Guys don't apply if they aren't willing to leave. I'm not saying anything other than BISD should make the call. That's all.

Just looked it up.  $119,609 is what he made this year at Crosby.

Man, that's a heck of a 5A job. Of course, the positive change he has made in the community and football program is worth every penny.

If I were BISD, I still think I'd make the call before he has a chance to officially accept the DP job (if that's happening). Rio is the kind of guy they need. Young, full of fire, innovative, and used to winning football games. Quit retreading the same ol' flat tires. Bring in a proven winner and let him pump some energy into those kids!

So honest question for Beaumont people: how successful (in football) do y’all think this new school will be?

Central has been competitive in a weak 5 A district the past few years, but missed the playoffs this year and only got in last year thanks to a mistake by the Nederland coaching staff. Not a knock on Central, just the truth.

Ozen on the other hand hasn’t done much of anything to talk about the past several years.

IMO, combining the schools would have made them successful in 5A, but now moving up to 6A is a big leap. And now instead of taking advantage of the fact that instead of paying 3 head coaches your only paying 2 which means pay rates could be increased substantially for both coaches, instead they seem like they will choose to continue to pay well below the average for HC jobs across the state. To me, and I wish this school the best of luck, but that’s not a recipe for success.

BISD absolutely NEEDS a high profile coach to start this off the right way. If not, then sadly the kids who are juniors and sophomores and maybe even freshmen are going to have a rough couple of years in football, and that’s not fair to the kids who had no choice in this matter.

It has been well known that there was/is talent in BMT. Up until this point, most of it has gone to WB because the program was in better shape, and more stable. I tend to think that some of that talent will begin to filter back toward the new school and you could see this team be pretty good, pretty fast. It all depends on the decision they are making right now. I believe you take that third HC salary you were paying, and increase Peavey and the new position to 103k ish. If they do that, it allows them to hand pick their next coach rather than wait and see if anyone comes to them. A name I would like to see them pursue is Jeff Riordan at Crosby. He has pretty much maxed his potential at Crosby and has to be considering his next move. Especially considering that his number one supporter, superintendent Keith Moore, resigned last week. The time is prime for Rio to cash in and make the move. He could come into BMT, take that raw talent that we all know is there, and put them in a position to succeed. He is also one of the best I've seen at getting kids scholarships and opportunities for higher education through football. That would be a big benefit to those kids. Just a thought, but one that could definitely happen if they play their cards right.

At the current pay of $86,000 when the state average is $98,000, he probably isn't willing to come for that.

Here is what we do know, Jeff Nelson (Central) and Ed Taylor (Ozen) will be applying for the position.  Now the thing is how many other applicants will put in for the position.  I'll leave it up to one of my media buddies to get us a list when the time is appropriate.

The list will be long and the future coach of the new school isn't in the district right now. They will get the salary up so it can be competitive, and they will land a good coach.....that is unless they fumble the opportunity, with BISD is known to do.

It depends on what the school needs. Not every school is concerned with winning bud despite what you think. Some schools just want a coach that will stick around more than a couple years which nixes most coordinators from the applicant list. Here is a breakdown.

Coordinators: On their way up will stay 2-3 years then move on to better paying gig.

Experienced winning (middle aged) head coaches: They know their worth and will not settle for less than a certain dollar amount.

Experienced winning (near retirement) head coaches: These guys will stick around until the end or until the school board pisses them off.

Then hiring a good coach, coordinator or otherwise, isn't high on that schools list of priorities.

this is high school not NFL or college, some coaches don't have the talent like some schools have..

I've seen good coaches make a difference no matter what the talent level is. Even if it's taking a team from 1-9 to 4-6, that's a big improvement and will secure you a playoff spot these days.

has become the nature of the profession. Applicants will say whatever it takes to get a job and then they after getting the job they will say what the Administration and the Community wants to hear so they can have their support. All along they are looking forward to the next, bigger, better job.

I'm not saying that Mathis didn't intend on making Marshall "home" or have plans to build something great there, or that he didn't give the job and kids his total focus during the season. I think he is a good man and he was being honest when he said those things and had big plans for Marshall.

But, DeSoto was his "dream" job and he probably should have never left.

    mic drop.

    Correct.

Oh, if only MLK's dream could come true:

I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. (and State Football Championships) Martin Luther King, Jr.

Too many racists in DeSoto to make MLK's dream come true there. How sad.

This is a bit of an ignorant take. The issue isn’t about color, it’s Mathis. Those in power love him there and are moving heaven and earth to bring him back. It just so happens that the coaches on either side are different colors.

...again,who's upset?  People like myself who's actually able to view things from a glass half empty/glass half full can see the whole picture.

One of these board members that was elected who was on the previous regime always was and is very active in the respective communities.  Very involved in church and involved in many things that in involves volunteer time and effort to help the kids.  She's respected in that community.  She can't be blamed for the previous fallout of the previous board.  The collective unit was horrible as a whole.

I just don't know how I'm unclear to you on my thoughts and feelings on this.  After speaking to several alum and Ozen people, many share my sentiments.

She was also very involved in theft of millions from the district and absolutely shoulders her portion of the blame.

You're so misinformed, and just seem like you're talking out of side of your neck...

So misinformed that I told you this would be the result several months ago. I am aware of the issues and the board you guys elected multiple times drove the car into the ditch. The BOM have taken several great strides toward fixing the issues in BISD, only for the community to elect one of the clowns again, and the son of another. We're very lucky that this discussion isn't about the district being dissolved rather than a discussion about a merger to make the district stronger. BISD will never be fully viable until the citizens of Beaumont look themselves in the mirror and realize they are constantly tripping over themselves in the name of progress. Merging Central and Ozen doesn't take your Jaguar or Panther pride away from you, it only assures that your children and grandchildren will have a school they can be proud of also. As of now, that's not the case.
