Those who will hold tightly to the history of Central need to loosen their grip. I'm all for history and tradition, but the merger makes the most sense for the kids, and for the financial viability of the district. Once they merge, they will pass a bond and build a new high school that will be fabulous. The kids that have been dealing with sub par facilities and technology will have state of the art facilities and technology. The bad teachers will be weeded out leaving only the best of the best from each campus. Education quality will rise, opportunity will rise, student success will rise. It's best for all involved.
Let the tradition argument go.....it's not valid.

Just combining Central and Ozen would put the enrollment of the new school around 2400-2500
Exactly. WB enrollment sits at 2400 ish currently. Two equal schools = best plan available.

What do you mean, "done?" The work has been completed or saving the school is a lost cause?
It's done. The merger is being planned as we speak. The discussion is revolving around how to handle the backlash regarding the loss of tradition and history at Central.

Maybe HJ and Kountze should switch coaches. It might be time for a homecoming.

When they started adding "first team special teams".....that's when it jumped the shark.

I raised all these questions when it was initially decided that the school was uninhabitable and was told that they would fix it quickly and be back to business as usual. My sources say it is done.

Write it down....Central is going away.

You have to Ben kidding me. That will bury Liberty.

Wait, JJ Slack was ejected?

He started on 3 consecutive state championship teams at Carthage. Was a safety as a sophomore and QB the next 2 years. Threw 6 TD passes in 2010 state championship game.
A straight up stud that lit it up every time he laced up his cleats. A shame he didn't pan out at ETBU, but nothing for him to hang his head about. I believe he's married to a girl from Hardin now.

i still have mine, in the closet. It is a keepsake that you can show of to your kids. Also one will get their letter jacket on the hottest day of the year and wear it with pride, because it is one of the things in high-school that is earned.
Ehhh, when they started giving them for UIL and Ag, they stopped being so prestigious.

Makes me think that even if all other things are equal, HJ is taking a L this weekend.

Why is WH playing this game?

Two words.....Rusty Nail.

I think they have a good chance to get out of the region. We shall see.

The only reason I respond to you is because you have did nothing but kick and make wise ass cracks about Kirbyville. Let’s not hide behind our Port Arthur IP address. Your a fair weather fan of whose ever playing Kirbyville. When ever Buna makes it to 2 straight state championship games then you can talk smack about how good they are, until then enjoy going 2-3 deep and starting basketball the Monday after thanksgiving every year
Somebody is salty.
Especially after talking all that jabber this offseason. I figured you walked into this year with no expectations at all.

This is a 4th round game being played in round 1. I will definitely be at Stallworth on Friday night.

LOL...You must have never watched a game. Hardin runs a Spread Offense with a TE. Either they had a big play for a TD or they punted. Either way they did not have long drives which would eat clock. Spread offenses are not known for eating clock. Time of Possession was very low. So the defense was much improved. In fact the Offense put the defense in a bind a majority of the time. Not to mention that QB threw 10 interceptions on the year and the offenses countless fumbles. The Hardin Offense left lots of points on the field this year and were in most games including East Chambers and La Marque until they killed themselves. Problems teams with losing culture have until they develop winning cultures.
Know how you develop winning cultures? Bring in coaches like Tod Stark and let him install a program.....not run him out of town in the middle of the season

It wouldn't have taken Gabe Pruett or Tom Haliburton until 9:15 on a Thursday night to get this article online.
Seems as if Gabe's expertise could be used by the BE or another news outlet in the area. Pretty crazy that this guy is not covering sports anymore in this area.......hear me VYPE?

And your pathetic for criticizing children smh ...
I am not criticizing children, I'm criticizing the adults that were undoubtedly involved in all of this. Apparently leadership is lacking with that program.

They use it for practice every day. I have yet to see them on the practice field all year.
Why? That field is embarrassing and it was once one of the best around!

Not to mention the potential to take that third FB coach salary and split it between the two 6A schools, allowing them to actually pay a 6A salary to the football coaches. The names that might jump at the chance to coach a combined Central and Ozen squad for a competitive salary might shock us all. Plus, a district matchup between WB and "the school to be named later" would be something to look forward to year in and year out. This is all positive.
Finally a BOM that truly cares about the kids and the future of BISD rather than their own interests.
