    9 years under Faircloth(8 playoffs): 72-33 (8-8 in playoffs). 3 times to Rd 3.

I don’t think Faircloth is a bad coach.  He’s a great offensive coach and puts up points.  It’s the manner in which he loses, and in many cases wins.  A win is always good, but having to score 72 because you give up 69, isn’t a recipe for success.

Its clear he wants to win with offense, and Burnett placed way more emphasis on defense when he coached.

You don't have to be a big time D1 player to be an exceptional, difference maker on defense. Example, Montana Q from Vidor. But you have to have some difference makers like him, preferably 4-5 of them, to slow people down in the late rounds of the playoffs. The PNG players played their hearts out on both sides of the ball and the coaches did their best. Sometimes you just get outplayed with a higher level of talent. Nothing to be ashamed of. Great seasons Indians!

I 100% agree with the 1st half, but giving up 69 pts and 66 pts in the playoffs shouldn’t be considered as getting outplayed. It’s being out schemed and out coached as well.  Badly.

And it’s not just a 2017 problem.  It’s been a problem since Faircloth has been there. Maybe not 60 pts every week, but they consistently give up 40 since he’s been there.  Little has changed.

Legitimate chance of playing for a ring with that type of enrollment or bigger means having 3 to 4 d1 players at least . Manvel , katy, allen

IF PNG had a defense and woulda won, they woulda played Fort Bend Marshal, a very beatable team.

They have a good enough offense to beat anyone in region 3.  And they have the most important piece of the puzzle, a big time QB.

Before the playoffs became watered down, and when PNG played Stephenville for the state championship in the Astrodome, they didn’t have a major d1 player on defense.  But they played great defense, and could tackle very good.

  4. Jimmy and Joes!!!

Its PNG for Christ’s sake!  They didn’t have dominate athletes and playmakers when Matt Burnett was there.   PNG has one of the richest football histories in Texas high school football, with a large participation rate!  Find 11 football players that are meaner than hell and teach them technique and how to tackle!

PNG has won a helleva lot of football games with the type of players they have today.

And it’s ok to get beat.  You ain’t gonna win every game.  But the philosophy of out scoring ppl 72-69 in the playoffs is a joke.  If you get beat, get beat with a decent defense!

Football in southeast Texas is soft and weak it's all about one team wos mustangs it's very very sad!!!!

I agree with this.  In the overall perspective of things, and taking statewide teams into account, Our offenses are on par with most of the state, but once the golden triangle ventures outside of the area we get exposed.

Outside of WOS and Newton, no one else seems to play much defense, or with much physicality.

  6. Crying damn shame really!  I’d love to watch PNG on tv playing at Jerry World, with all the pageantry.  But they will never get there with the defense they play.  And that’s unfortunate with the offensive skill they have, led by a once in a generation QB talent.

You wouldn’t think it would be so dang hard to have a decent defense, don’t even have to be elite, when you have a QB like Johnson, but just a decent defense.

i fear gunter and canadian are not just a little better than newton, but a lot better

i sure hope i am wrong and the eagles win the trophy

Neither of those teams have the athletic ability and speed that Newton has.  Both are extremely well coached and disciplined though.

Newton is well coached, always has been, but the lack of discipline they play with is bothersome this late in the playoffs.

I normally don’t make statements concerning the coaching part of things, but last night it appeared to me that the coaches were not only outmatched but gave up in that second quarter as well. We moved the ball pretty consistently through the air yet continued to stick with a running game that was going nowhere.  Not only that but with the ball and about a minute left in the half and all 3 timeouts we let about 30 seconds run off the clock without taking a timeout.  Oh well probably better in the long run the way they scored at the end they may have reached 80 in that first half with another 39 seconds....

Scott Suratt at Carthage is possibly a top 5 coach in the state regardless of classification.  One of the best defensive coaches in the state, IMO to go along with Gary Joseph and Cornell Thompson.

Suratt outcoaches just about everyone, not just the Silsbee staff.

What do you mean they should never be trusted again.....Almost Everyone from the Regime that passed the last bond is gone. Plus these things are for the kids. Why wouldnt it get done

Citizens are still paying higher taxes for the last bond, which was poorly mishandled and borderline fraud.  How and why could you ask those same people to pay even more taxes again.

But I do agree since the crooks from the old board and administration are gone, the money would most likely be in much better hands.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I asked friends and family that still live in Orange and they say nothing's changed. It may be worse thanks to social media.

And by the way a confederate memorial on MLK is a big problem. Its a middle finger to the black community. There's no explaining that one away. Or the poll that showed a lot of support for that despicable POS.

IMO, Orange has way more problems than a confederate memorial.  I’d be more worried about fatherless children and grandparents raising grandkids.  Along with multiple shooting and armed robberies every week.

I know you think you mean well but you miss the point. Your response shows you haven't started to look within yourself.

I don’t have a problem, nor do I think that Orange has a significant problem like the article states.

i don’t play the blame game, and throw pity parties.

While that's a nice post its not the real story. It may have been that way for you but it's not that way for about half of the people who live in town or grew up there like me. There are problems that remain unsolved and are only put aside for 4 hours a few Fridays in the fall.

While you may see the confederate monument as an aberration, others see it as an affirmation of what we already know and even more a slap in the face since it was built on MLK. That garbage pile wasn't the start it just the icing on the cake.

The one thing I'm grateful for is learning how to navigate in a racist society. I don't have very fond memories of school due to the discrimination by teachers and students. Had a few classmates that were proud to be klansmen for what its worth.

The article may be harsh but what ET3 said was harsh too. Maybe instead of being so defensive it might be time for soul searching.

BTW this story could have been written about the whole area.

Sorry that was your experience in Orange.  And I do agree that problems like the article talks about aren’t solely an Orange problem.  Beaumont and Port Arthur are much worse IMO.

And things will never change for the better if people don’t start with themselves and their own culture, instead of demanding everyone else change.

  13. And to pretend that white people, who supposedly live in West Orange district send their children 15 miles away so they don’t have to go to school with children of color!  Really!  That’s what the author suggested.  You send your children to school in which district you reside.

By the way, how many people of color have left WOS district to send their children to LCM?  Which according to the state of Texas is a better academic school district.

  14. ESPN is more like MSNBC than the ESPN most of us grew up with.

No doubt there is racial tension in Orange, it’s all over the south, and it’s not a 1 way street like the liberal media wants you to believe.  There’s as much racism in Port Arthur and Beaumont than in Vidor.

Earl, and anyone else his color has a greater chance or being robbed or worse in Orange, than in Vidor.

This poorly written story makes Orange look much worse than what it is.
