I was feeling like Baytown Lee would probably be the 4th place finisher this year but I think I’ll switch my prediction to Kingwood Park. I liked the sophomore QB they put in against Crosby and eventually finished the season with. I didn’t realize that #4 kid that played receiver for them had that great a year? He had 1,004 receiving yards on 62 catches with 11 tds on a not very good team.

The thing I value most when making a prediction about a team’s season is if they have a returning QB. KP has that, IDK what their returning linemen look like but assuming they start Jaxson Sims(sophomore) they still have the 6’5” kid who started the season at QB and will probably be a factor somewhere else? KP may give somebody some unexpected trouble this year if they figure out how to make a stop or two during a football game.

Saw Jahmar Sanders go 10.5 in the 100M at the area meet in Barbers Hill last week. Glad we won’t be seeing him next year in district play.

I’ve said it countless times over the years but two things I hate placing any value in are JV records and 7on7 scores.

That being said, to somewhat break my own rule I’ll say based on what I saw yesterday at the 7on7 tournament in Dickinson that Crosby has more than sufficient talent to cover the losses at the skill positions from last year. The two places I was concerned were the defensive line and the secondary. Even with the loss of Kirkwood it looks like the secondary will be better overall. We’ll see about the d-line in Spring ball, which starts next week, but the LB core looks so solid with the Summer Creek transfer finally being eligible that we just need to find three guys to keep them clean vs a McCoy Casey type dominant replacement up front we were going to miss.

Myles threw for 32 tds and 3 ints last year. When a kid knows he can take off and most likely pick up the first down it’s hard to get him to take more chances with the football. However, I would gladly take two additional interceptions added to that total if it meant the opportunity for another 8-10 touchdown receptions by our receivers. 40 tds and 5 ints doesn’t sound that bad.

As long as we stay/stayed healthy Crosby was going to be in good shape this year just due to the talent in this range of classes we have playing varsity right now. Depending on how the line of scrimmage shakes out between Spring ball and Fall camp, we might be in very good shape.

I was in Dickinson last week at the track meet and was informed by a PAM fan that they would be rebuilding this year and not to expect too much from them🤷🏾‍♂️

Later on in the conversation he tells me that moving into the district with PAM was the best thing that could’ve happened to Crosby because they would “really” get us ready for the playoffs versus the district we played in the last couple of years🧐
I know some people didn’t like Kenny Ray but this guy made a very good argument for why they should’ve kept him in relation to all sports results, not just football.

Crosby is the only team in the district that finished above .500 that also brings back their starting QB. Myles had the best statistical season for any QB in Crosby's history last year, if he improves the way Walter, Cotton and Howard did between their junior and senior years I don't think Crosby will lose any regular season games. Walter, Cotton and Howard went a combined 28-2 during the regular seasons of their senior year.
I think the benefit of having an additional year of practice over the last two seasons will really show this season. Crosby's average margin of victory in district play was 33.3ppg last year and I really don't see that dropping much this year. That long bus ride to PA is going to suck though.

Some folks have known but I will make it public. My time as a full time administrator/broadcaster is up. I told my wife of 33 years that when she retired from teaching that I would retire with her to the beach. She retired last May and I told her I would finish out the football and basketball seasons of this year then I would join her. (would have joined her in May but needed to stay on after the passing of our beloved admin WOSGrad). I am so ready to be a beach bum.
I have enjoyed these past 17 years here on the site. I have seen it grow from just a little message board to now be considered a valuable media outlet. It truly has been a labor of love.
First of all, I want to thank Jordan Wilson, the owner of this site, by inviting me on as a staff member and eventually an administrator. He trusted me with the help of running this site and allowed me to "do my thang" and start my broadcast career. It has truly been a blessing. Thanks
I want to thank Todd Broussard (WOSGrad) who is looking down on us from heaven. He has been my partner in crime for all these years and is the reason this site is what it is today. He was the man!! I dearly miss my old friend and I hope that he is up there saying "job well done my friend". Thanks Todd for everything you did for me and this site.
I want to thank all the staff members here. Particularly Lucas, Mack, Robert, Terry, Matthew and all of the other staff. You have helped make this the place to be as for Southeast Texas sports.  Thanks for all the support over the years.
Thanks to all the coaches that I have come to know and work with all these years. Thank you for your support and cooperation and your acceptance of me and SETXsports. I am truly grateful.
Thanks to all the members here who really are what makes this site so great. I have become friends with several here and I cherish all the times we have spent on and off this site. God Bless all of you.
I wish all and this site the very best. I will still be around some but it will be mostly from my chair on the beach with my toes in the sand holding a cold one.
Thanks again to everyone and May God Bless.

Surratt is a great coach but let's not act like most years he doesn't have the most talent in his class. He's not going to Deer Park where he'll be three deep at every position due to them have 4k students and beating Jon Kay at North Shore. Rick Rhoades won three titles in his first six seasons at Cameron Yoe and lost in the title game in his 7th. I'm sure the folks in Cameron thought he was on a similar path and the best thing since sliced bread. He moved up a couple classes to Gregory Portland, had a deeper roster and never even made the playoffs in his five year stint because his talent comparable to the class had dropped so much.

I think Flannigan really wanted the job and probably would've been the best hire PNG could've made. I'm pretty sure he's on the back 9 regarding his coaching career and may have been looking to get closer to his eventual retirement destination. He would also get the administrative AD position which he hasn't had since he coached at Crosby which was probably appealing also. I doubt it was about the money, he could've flirted with bigger openings in the Houston area if that was the case.
I understand the excitement over the last name but it kind of feels like the Jeff Nations hire by Dayton after he had been out of football for a while. Nations was an elite level OC when Jerry Stewart was there supervising, he wasn't a very good head coach though. I hope it's a grand slam hire for PNG but the main question I have is what kind of staff will he be allowed to bring in/build with a bunch of guys already there that have ties to PNG? Is the PNG administration good with him coming in a firing everybody so he can build his version of a winner?

I will say this about Crosby.. It had its problems with overspending with a Superintendent that had repercussions but now is back STRONG.. Some of the best Athletic facilities in the state, New School and pays very well... Almost 20%/10K MORE a year in teaching salaries than PNG.. PNG is falling behind in these areas..

If PNG was going to hire somebody from Katy ISD it should be Paetow's coach BJ Gotte. I think he's going to have a similar run to Brad Butler's at Shadow Creek before Katy ISD breaks up the school to support the growth in the area and Paetow regresses. Might have some Ricky Tullos on him after that.

    1. Crosby - Crosby played 31 of a possible 32 games last realignment. Austin Westlake was the only 5A/6A school to play all ‘em all. The move up in class will be a challenge but Crosby is 13-1 the last two years in district play, at this point y’all just need to beat us.

    2. BH/PAM - BH has a lot of very good individual skill players returning. You see how far FB Marshall’s great skill players got against BH’s trench play though. BH lost some good trench guys and the best backfield they’ve had in 15 years. We’ll see how they restock.

    3. PAM/BH - PAM is the plant workers version of Humble when they were in 5A. Regional final talent with district runner-up coaching. How do you replace Sanders this year when you never showed an ability to develop a second act last year?

    4. Baytown Lee - Probably has the best coach nobody in the coverage area talks about because of where he is. I think the kids from back there off the state streets still get in the dance.
    5. Kingwood Park - I really don’t know why I think KP will be better than they end up every year?

    6. Porter - I think you’re getting into some bad teams here and Porter is just the best of the bunch.

    7. GCM - Looks good getting off the bus and if the new coach is any good they should be able to beat Sterling.

    8. Baytown Sterling - Somebody has to be second to last in a nine team district.

    9. La Porte - Hate is didn’t work out for Coach Tarr but the fishing at Sylvan Beach was probably going to be better than your football team and you ain’t catching **** out there. They should be in the running with Sterling and GCM for the “everybody gets to play game”.

JT was 5-2 going into the Highland Park game. Started 0-2 against the better teams and then won the next 5 against teams that finished the season sub .500. They didn't beat a team with a winning record all season. McFall is a good young running back. I follow recruiting closely so I've been watching film of all the top '24 backs in the state. He was obviously the best option at qb when the starter went down and y'all still lost your last two games by a combined 91 points.
I get the optimism and you may be correct but you said yourself y'all lost talent. I'm just pointing out that it looks like y'all did. I've been keeping up with Chappell Hill since our old coach took over a few years ago and two of my sons used to go to Sherman so I'm just familiar with the area results in general. Again, you may be correct and JT goes 16-0 but recent history says it's more likely that they'll be battling Forney or McKinney North to see who gets to make the long trip down to Crosby for their bi-district game.

I think Summer Creek will be better than CE King this year. My co-worker's son plays qb for them and said they lost 17 of 22 starters. They also have a new coach with their old coach moving to an AD only role. Pretty brutal district overall though. Atascocita has been to the 3rd round of the 6A-D1 playoffs seven years in a row and is basically an afterthought. When is the last time no Beaumont public schools made the playoffs?

I don’t care about the race of kids either. I was just pointing out a once rural town on the west side of cattle country has a higher hit rate than North Shore in a certain demographic. It’s an anomaly that probably nobody else in the state can copy. There’s no more benefit at Aledo than there is at Arlington Martin who sends more kids D1 in every sport and produces better college players. The statistics just are what the stats is are.

To Aledo's credit, whatever they're doing out there is obviously legal since I'm sure the UIL has checked. Yes, the qb this past year was a transfer from California. Got to see him up close last year in Dallas. They also had an offensive lineman come from California a couple years earlier, he was a 6'6"/315lbs 4* that ended up signing with Michigan. I'm sure it's all a coincidence though.
  22. Thanks

Yeah, they just showed up at Aledo. I watched Aledo's 1998 title game against Cuero and I didn't see one black kid on the team. Not that that part matters but somehow all of a sudden with the same 2% black population in their school you get Johnathan Gray, Jase McClellan, Jojo Earle, the Allen brothers, Jeff Carter, etc. ALL in recent years when they never had them before. Throw that in with their population explosion and Aledo is a total anomaly in the sense that their recruiting numbers look more like Arlington Martin's versus Southlake Carroll's like they should.
CE King is good now. Is it because the new coach is that much better or is it because their enrollment grew by 1500 kids since they were in the district with Crosby 6 years ago? 1500 additional North Shore type kids is going to make it easier on any coach. Jon Kay has won 4 state titles in 8 years at North Shore. He might end up as the greatest high school coach ever but he's not beating Dodge, Samples, Carter and Joseph with Summer Creek's talent the way he's basically owned them while at North Shore going 11-3 in those contest. Meanwhile he's 3-5 against the Meekins brothers at Westfield. I know you don't consider them great coaches due to not having titles though.
There's a huge difference between "low" expectations and realistic expectations which is where I think you're getting confused. I watched PNG play Montgomery and I would've given Montgomery a slight advantage athletically yet PNG still beat them. If PNG played Montgomery 10 times it would probably be 5-5. I watched them play Texas High the next week and the gap in athletes was more like a chasm. They could play that game 10 times and TH would probably win 9 of them. If PNG's administration can't can't objectively watch their team play and come to that conclusion then that's more on them than it is on BF.
