I'm not saying he isn't good at what he does.  And he undoubtedly has forgotten more basketball than I'll ever know...but you can't tell me you don't see the significance.  All 11 championships he won he had 1 of the 2 arguably greatest scorers in the history of the game.  No Kobe...No MJ...no ring.  I find that to be a fact that can't be argued.
And yet he is said to be one of the greatest NBA coaches ever.
How can you justify the Miami Heat making multiple Finals appearances and championships to all of the sudden not even making the playoffs? Well...I think you know the answer to that question.  And it has zero to do with coaching.
    Again.. Congrats Coach Boutte

    Lovelady by a ton.
And yes Colmesneil is in for another very long season.  I don't care who the coach is.

This is where my opinion takes criticism.  Don't get me wrong...great honor. And he definitely worked his way into a position to be a very successful coach.  With a resume that no doubt deserves a Hall of Fame induction.  And wins is what gets you there.
But keep this in mind.. Phil Jackson didn't win any championships without MJ or Kobe. None.
So you guys saying that he is the greatest Texas high school coach that's ever lived...I think that the greatest coaches alive today are probably people you've never heard of.  A good coach in my opinion is someone who has his/her team competing every single game especially with lesser talent.  Because the only thing that changes from year to year is the talent you have. Coaches become better coaches with more exposure to experience.  So if a coach wins a championship one year because he is a "better coach" then why doesn't that coach continue to win championships every year?  Because they have different players.
Anyways.. Congrats.  Truly a great honor.

I also heard they had speed...compared to HD. Which probably means they're pretty average.  Hardin wins this one by double digits.

Wouldn't that be something.. They would definitely return to their "winning ways" after that.  One JV transfer from Liberty and they would dominate Chester and High Island in a 6 man game.

Hold the phone... Hardin has the same size kids as HD..and they're being dominated by someone.
    I can't hardly believe that.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have tried.  I'm saying he would not have stayed.  Even good coaches can't win without talent.  I doubt he would've put his reputation as a great coach on the line for a little more money.  That's what makes good coaches good...they know when it's time to go.

There go those PAST results again.  "we dominated blah blah back when blah blah blah"

By the way...also had 4 college caliber move ins under Coach Finney. But, I do think he did a good job. Having said that they still had about a .500 record under him.

I have no doubt. It should just be cleared up to what some people think.

Joubert giving somebody Kountze basketball to coach Kountze football would be the same as giving someone Newton football to coach Newton basketball.  Stick with the proven winner.

Here's the dillusional thought of the day. Coach Joubert handing Kountze basketball over to Travis Williams...or anyone else for that matter.

No way he gives up 30 wins a year and state contender for a 6 wins a year and hopefully 1 playoff game.

Unfortunately, this can not be stopped. It is to easy to get around because of the vast number of apartment complexes and rent houses. Parents change jobs, people move, and kids go with them. It is almost impossible to prove a kid is moving for athletic purposes unless the kid or parent actually tells someone.  Having said that..if a kids parent gets a new job or moves into housing into another school district then nothing can be done.  And...if that new school district happens to be an annual state football (or whatever sport) powerhouse that may happen to give your high school son a better chance at a deep playoff run or getting looked at by numerous college scouts...well then that's how it goes.

And by the way that's how West Orange Stark does its "recruiting". They probably aren't actually going around and recruiting kids...but the fact that they are one of the only consistent winners in the area.. Well that makes kids want to go there if they like football.

Good read. I know that one of the most obvious differences is post play. I think that once an American kid gets labeled as a post player, their youth coach puts their back to the basket. That's good and all...but it's no coincidence that European post players can actually shoot free throws and American post players suck. It's because overseas EVERY player is taught how to shoot..handle the ball..make finess passes.

Too much about athleticism, dunking, snowbirding...etc. going downhill fast.

dont get me wrong...I love watching freak athletes play the game well. But..something will never change. Shoot, handle the ball, pass, defend.

Fair enough. Gonna be some gripe regardless. I'll admit that if it was a set, pre-determined rotation between the three "nice" stadiums then that would technically be the fairest way. Even tho I still believe that cowboy stadium far and away the best.

And if not a different "safety budget" for just in case we have to travel 10 hours or whatever. If not a budget then maybe fundraisers. I don't know..God knows schools sell crap for every other thing. Maybe redirect the 10s of thousands spent on prom..or lots of other stuff.

Not sure I know what that means.."no way of doing anything anywhere"

but I will say this: No...it is all about the players. Well, players and coaches. It's all about the team.

the day that coaches start asking parents' opinion on where preseason games should be scheduled..or asking parents for permission on a uniform design...that's when it will be "all about the fans too"

Can you give me an example of an "AAU system". I'm curious.  It's been a couple of summers...but the last time I saw any AAU ball it looked an awful lot like what I consider street ball. They went 5 wide on offense or 4 low and took turns trying to score on their defender using a 1 on 1 move. Most of the time it was whoever had the ball when it came across half court. Unless someone could get a fast break dunk in transition.  Zero defense from any person other than whoever was guarding the ball. Don't get me wrong...I know the game has changed tremendously and I have no problem with it.

But it if that's what "can't be done" in high school, then I disagree. Unless you're speaking of a different "system". So..enlighten me. Please.

We'll take it off then. I don't get on the youth forum much so I wouldn't know.

Just because the article is about 9 and 10 year olds doesn't mean it isn't relative to high school sports. What I got out of it was the idea of "select" ball. I know it's been a while but I'm pretty sure high school kids play select ball also.
