  1. If it’s all about coaching then why doesn’t WOS win state every year? Was he a worse coach this year than the years they won it?
  2. Recently found this: [Hidden Content]
  3. I have no doubt that they have some great facilities. I've seen their indoor practice field as well as some of their gyms. It's nice. But back to my statement.. I'm pretty sure they don't want any low income housing.
  4. I don’t think the good people of Mont Belvieu want affordable housing in the school district. Seems to me that they’re content with that being Dayton’ thing.
  5. We've all seen that. A lot of schools have that level of consistency (other than winning state titles). There's something else... You think Aledo has a higher level of consistency than Calallen High School... who's been under the leadership of Phil Danaher since what...1984? Even Cornel Thompson at WOS has been there forever. What exactly are you talking about when you say consistency?
  6. People will say it's because of money.. maybe so.. but there are also poor town around the state that are just making school/athletics more of a priority somehow. I'll say this, it's slowly catching fire. There are more and more schools around setx updating/replacing those old worn down facilities with nicer stuff.
  7. I would have a hard time betting against Carthage in THIS GAME no matter the circumstances. Up, down, underdog, injuries, whatever... I've been conditioned to say that Carthage has a better shot at winning this one just because.
  8. 1.) This is recruiting.. it's recruiting without having to recruit. Yes, money plays a huge role. First class facilities brings them in and wealthy families provide the kids with everything needed. 2.) You are 100% going to get judged for this. Several years ago I made this same argument and was blasted on this site. Back when WOS couldn't get past Carthage and I brought up the difference between having a 100 yard indoor practice field and riding a school bus to the state championship game. For the most part, people (SETX) refuse to believe that "what my grandaddy had" isn't good enough anymore.
  9. A friend of a friend told me that Coach Sutherland just got his 800th win with this one. Congrats! That's an awesome feat.
  10. Only one stat that matters. 29 points for 21 points against "And nothing else matters." - Metallica
  11. I know it's tough.. I'm not arguing that there's a better way to put 93 teams into 16 divisions. Just that maybe the numbers should not have been done so that it's even possible to have 4/5 teams districts. Especially if UIL is adamant about have 4 make the playoffs. It's just crazy to me. I would almost rather just make the cutoffs more spread out and have big school and small school playoff brackets. Like before.
  12. So.. five 5 team districts and one 4 team district? If so, UIL never ceases to amaze.
  13. 04 is as far back as it goes so I can’t say either way. I’m sure there were some decent (relative) teams in the past when the population was a little higher. No doubt HD had success back during the oil boom but I’ve heard the town has been slowly dying for a while.
  14. Not to butt in to y’all’s conversation..but according to maxpreps. Dating back to 04 HD is 2004 3-8, 2005 4-6, 2006 7-4, 2007 7-4, 2008 7-3, 2009 5-6, 2010 5-6, 2011 4-6, 2012 7-4, 2013 4-7, 2014 4-6, 2015 2-8, 2016 7-4, 2017 4-7, 2018 5-5, 2019 2-7 Since 2004 that’s 73-87 (Pretty sure) with a large majority of those wins coming against West Hardin, Sabine Pass, Chester, High Island, or Burkeville. Sorry.. but it is what it is.
  15. Nothing like that. I was following the score via FootballFriday (or whatever it’s called now) and texted a few days after. Sounds like an awesome game to be at.
  16. My mistake everyone.. it’s 585 for Aledo. I misread the text and added the rushing yards to the total. That’s still 1,463 between the two.
  17. My mistake.. I misread the text. I have a friend on the Ennis coaching staff. Text said 585 offense and 349 rushing. I added the two together. He also said they had 35 first downs..? That’s insane.
  18. Over the weekend Aledo and Northshore accounted for over 1800 yards of total offense between the two of them. Aledo- 934 NS - 878 In the regional finals no less. Unbelievable.
  19. Absolutely right. Never mind the fact that HD graduated what little talent they had over the last couple seasons, had their best returner transfer, and played with a bunch of freshmen, oh..and played some of those ^ games with injuries... None of that matters. They should've won district and made a deep run. Excuse me while I roll my eyes. LOL
  20. Again.. you obviously don’t know the situation. I already explained that there was good reason for waiting to make the decision. I also said that he made it clear that he was more than happy to resign if the school (Sup/board) wasn’t happy with it. I also explained that they ^ decided he was too valuable to their school leadership goals to let leave over one football season where he (for the one time and last chance) would be able to attend all of his Son’s high school football games. You don’t have to agree with it but you might as well be happy about accepting it.
  21. You’re comparing “do you think the school I teach at to let me sit at home and pay me?” to him not being the head football coach this year? Does he sit at home and get paid to be an athletic director? The current HC IS NOT the AD.. maybe you didn’t mean to type that. I think coaching had an effect on little things like structure and discipline (not that it was bad). I think the head coach had zero effect on the overall record. None.
  22. It appears that you aren’t familiar with the situation either. A) I said he was ignorant because his original post implied that the head coach stopped coaching in order to be an AD only, dodging the responsibilities of being a head coach and all that comes with it. B ) did it ever occur to you that there may have been good reason for waiting until the end of summer to make the decision? I don’t know the situation in full detail, nor do I know the coach personally, nor is it any of mine or your business so I won’t post the reason I heard for him waiting. But it’s a legitimate reason (if what I heard is true). Furthermore, I heard that he actually offered to resign if the district wasn’t happy with his reasoning.. but that the Sup and board decided that he was too valuable to the school so they agreed to give him the year to be a dad to his senior son. Again.. information that I heard from my friends that have friends. Even if none of that is true, it seems to me that HD fans are notorious for wanting instant success when it just isn’t feasible. I happen to remember at the beginning of the season all of the “it’s gonna be a good thing..won’t miss a beat” type talk when word of your basketball guy was taking over. So I don’t wanna hear it. Yeah, I said he was ignorant because of (explanation ^).. maybe you’re a little bit ignorant as well.
  23. I think I read one time that HD has only won two playoff games (total) since their state title back in..? 70’s?.. So to answer your question, the SC year was their last good playoff run.
  24. Now wait a minute.. how is it that a coach that fans wanted to get rid of a couple years ago beat a coach that’s good enough to win a state title at any school? Just wondering. BTW.. good win Silsbee
  25. The head coach stepped down for the last chance to watch his senior son play football, who attended a different school. From what I’ve heard it wasn’t permanent. Regardless, HD would’ve sucked no matter who was calling the shots because they were a young team in a tough district. Your ignorance is staggering.
