Any coach can have success with the players some of them have had. Players make it a lot easier. Still great coaches, no doubt. It's impossible to gauge who the best coaches in the area are because some coaches have an abundance of talent while others are forced to do their best with lesser talent. I would definitely say that Foster is a great coach as well but even his deep runs he had a couple of college caliber players.

Even great coaches need good players. I'm not saying whatever school you're talking about couldn't have been improved in some areas but you wouldn't be able to put the best coaches in the state at several schools and expect them to come out of there with a state title. It's proven every single year. And if it was strictly based on coaching then the same coaches would have the same results every year.

If West Hardin is included in the small school it will bring down a whole bunch of D1 schools that weren't there this year. I know traditionally all of the numbers go up slightly but I'm told it'll make too many schools D2 in that class as opposed to D1. Look for that particular cutoff to stay about the same as last time.

I couldn't help but notice you included West Hardin in that 2A DII range. Bad news, friend... I doubt that happens based on some things I'm hearing from some friends who have friends. We will see, though. UIL is a strange bird.

West Hardin will score more points in the first quarter of their first basketball game than they will the entire rest of football season. And that’s still not going to be much.

Awe come on now.. next week might not be too bad. Grapeland only beat Lovelady 53-16. Maybe y’all can keep it close.

First of all.. it's never the same district. You're assuming that every other school in the district is in the same situation as well as far as returning players and/or transfers/move-ins. But.. let's say it's relatively close. Seems like there may have been some political games being played in order to hire some new blood. Sometimes a new staff will bring fresh perspective and get some kids out that would've have otherwise... and sometimes the lesson is learned that the former staff actually wasn't all that bad. Again, I'm speaking hypothetically. 9 out of 10 times (or more) a school isn't in the same situation as the year before except for maybe the names of the schools on the schedule. The schedule, classification, and graduation have more to do with what we're talking about than most other variables.

Again.. far too many variables. What if you graduate 14 starters and move into a higher classification? Is it the new coach's fault? Previous? Or is it the same thing that happens all across the state?.. Players come. Players go. CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE that have absolutely zero to do with the coaching staff.

I'm sorry.. but this thread is a little ridiculous in my opinion. Between upper classmen, transfers, injuries, alignments, and everything else that could possibly change the outcome of any one team's season.. how could anyone possibly determine when any particular coach has made the difference in a program. Enough of a difference to get credit/fault for wins/losses. Especially schools around here where most of the head coaches don't even get to see their first set of freshmen (or 7th graders in smaller districts) make it to graduation. If a kid has only played under one AD/HFC then they have played in said person's program.

Nobody ever gives credit to where a majority of it belongs. To UIL. Those district alignments make winners into losers and losers into winners every other year. #ToughPillToSwallow

Seems to me like there might be an upperclassmen or two getting to play this year that didn't for the previous coach. We'll see how much "community support" they continue having after a loss to Lovelady this week, a butt kicking by Grapeland next week, and then a total embarrassment by Mart the week after. And then after all of the seniors graduate when the coach heads for greener pastures.
