  1. Baseball is almost certainly learned skills and if your great at track and football you can play baseball, if you concentrate on it. But they don't.

So you could take any "great track and football" high school player and put them in front of an 80+ mph fastball and they would be fine?...

By the way...there isn't a single sport in Warren that compares to Newton football. Not even baseball.

This conversation is kind of silly so I'm out.
  2. First of all...What sports do Warren excel in that aren't football...?

2nd... You mean Newton isn't good at baseball?.. That requires a certain skill. Or basketball?...that requires a certain skill. But they're good every year in football...and track...which require pretty much only require to be extremely athletic. (I know more goes into football than that)

Now I can't believe that at all...
  3. Develop your players. Starting from junior high. Have your junior coaches teach basics. Varsity head coach overseas program. Don't teach things to complex to young kids. Stay the course as per varsity coaches program. Jr. High coach will move up to varsity. Develop strength which develops speed and confidence. Discipline, teach kids to not try to be a star, play their position, have faith and confidence in fellow players to do the same.

You know what...you're exactly right. I didn't think about this at all. In fact...you should write a book about this theory. You've got the secret! I bet there aren't any coaches in the state that are doing this.

What was I thinking?... It's not about athletes and players at all. All you have to do is follow the winning formula you just stated.

Boy I hope nobody else in the state finds out what Newton and West Orange Stark has been up to...
  4. Good coaches will do more than what could've been done. But even good coaches can't overcome inferior talent.

Anybody that doesn't think coaching matters..
Just look at what Larry Brown did with SMU this year. On that same token.. He could not have won the Big10 with SMU. Does that mean he's not as good a coach as any Big10 coach? Nope. SMU doesn't have the talent.
  5. Same thing that has happened to him everywhere except Carroll. He couldn't win. Jumping straight from high school head coach to college head coach was not one of the brightest ideas

    Let me interject here.

Let's say he was making 150k a year at SLC. Went 16-0 4 years. At UNT he made 1.1mil a year. Went 0-10 3 years.

At SLC he made 9k per win. At UNT he made 100k per loss.

And since UNT pays into teacher retirement system...his retirement is a % of those 3 years that he "jumped from hs to college"

So not only did he win...he's laughing at statements like this.
  6. This Chester bashing going on is senseless and stupid.

I'm not bashing Chester. Someone implied that if the AD at Chester had to now their field...then every small school AD mowed their field.

No..schools like Chester would not understand that 60k+ employees don't have to do minimum wage jobs.
  7. Ok, it goes with being a 1A or 2A coach everywhere but the one extremely wealthy place you are referencing.

Don't talk down to me.. like I'm ignorant or something. You seem to know quite a bit about what you're taking about most of the time on here..

But I'm telling you it's a fact. There are more small schools across the state than you think, where a school administrator (like an athletic director) does not have to do an 8$/hour job during the day. Like mow the field.

I personally think SETx is 10 years behind. But I bet there is not a single school in...say Liberty County... where the head fb coach mows the field.
  8. You know they will pretend to not see this post HD9. LOL!

Nobody is taking anything away from the individual accomplishments if that kid. It is definitely a heck of a feat. But... I happen to know for certainty that HD couldn't even win a playoff game with the fastest kid in the state on their team. You think they're gonna do anything with the 3rd fastest kid in the region?..

By the way... All those team accomplishments you guys always talk about... How many of them happened in the last 30 years? Oh that's right...none.
  9. Yep Martin ran his slowest time of the year a 22.86. The Alto kids ran a 22.81 and 22.83. Martin had repeatedly ran a 22.59 and beat those kids before. I believe his hamstring may have acted up again. The wind was not in the kids favor that day as well.

So the wind wasn't blowing in anyone else's lane but HD's?

55... You are probably an ok guy. And obviously a good fan. But you really set yourself up for ridicule. Hamstring...? Come on man
  10. Former assistant at Tatum
    Former Kountze HC
Current East Chambers offensive line coach/run-game coordinator.

    Anyone guess who? :D :D

Really....? Gotta say.. I never would've thought. We'll. If that's true then good for him (if that's what he wants). And good for Deweyville.
  11. I usually never even have an impulse to post on here... There is just something about the words HD55 types that just instinctively make me want to publicly respond.

4 horsemen...? What a joke... The players that suit out in HD next year will do the same thing that the last 25 HD teams did before them. When they play a team that couldn't beat most JV teams...they will win. When they play a team that is any good at all...they will lose.

    4 horsemen....lol
  12. Pretty good chance he didn't play college football

He was gonna play at UH...but the entire coaching staff was fired the day before national signing day. And he got offers to go to Alabama, Florida State, and Notre Dame. But the scholarships were already gone by the time he was notified. And the recruiter wanted him as a preferred walk on at Texas...but he held out because of all of those offers. Then it was too late.
  13. I can vouch for HD9. He was a very good football player. I'm sure he doesn't care what you guys think, but I think it's probably time for the personal stuff to stop. I'm sure there is something in the rules about personal attacks against other posters. We are all adults here and can agree that the glory days have passed us all by!

There's nothing personal going on here... I don't even know the guy. Maybe he was good.

I'm just stating something obvious here. Nobody CAN play D1 and just choose not to. And there is no way he is better than all the great players in the last 30 or so years who also weren't good enough to play D1 ball.

2-8 small school teams do not have any college players on their roster. Otherwise they would've won more games.

I don't know what it is....but a lot of this HD stuff is self inflicted.
  14. I didn't claim to be the best high school player that ever lived. I wasn't in this conversation at all until I got called out by someone who doesn't know me I'm sure and said I was garbage. Someone who probably never even played football. I went to SFA, but had offers from (Southwest) Texas State, New Mexico State, UTEP and several other DII/DIII/NAIA schools. I don't know which "All-State" team really counts, just know that was a couple of the teams I was names to. I was on a 2-8 team my senior year and was 2nd team all-state. I'd trade that in a heartbeat if I could have been part of a playoff run and winning team. It is what it is. I'm getting out of this because I don't think this is the place for all this and it really doesn't mean anything and is ancient history.

    Southwest Texas State....UTEP....
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that you're full of crap. Especially since you probably can't name me one person from HD that played D1 anything in your lifetime.

Getting a letter from a college is not the same thing as getting an "offer".
  15. He is probably referring to last years 5A player of the year now pitching for East Bernard. She is as advertised and hits the ball a ton. I would walk her every at-bat unless I had a very good pitcher.

She wasn't the 5A player of the year. She was the TEXAS player of the year. Just so happens she was at a 5A school. Any school, any class would have their hands full against her at the mound.
