Ok, then why do we see teams drop a classification each year and all of a sudden contend for a championship? This argument is ridiculous. 185 lb lineman do not work as good as 265 lb lineman. It is better to have 100 kids at practice than 30 kids at practice. It is better to have 30 kids on the sideline than 15 kids on the sideline. Kids that play one way play at a higher pace than kids who play both ways. This is no secret.
You are right. Great teams in a classification usually can't compete with good teams in a higher classification. (when it comes to football or baseball) Sometimes they cant even compete with mediocre teams in a higher classification.
But there is an implication here that HD is a "football powerhouse". A football powerhouse can beat or even compete with some teams in a higher classification. Not all but some. I know that HD will probably never again be able to beat Newton in football. But to be fair, I don't think Mart could beat Newton either.
The point is you can't make contradictory statements an think you wont get ganged up on. HD vs. ? all time record is blah blah blah, so we're gonna beat yall. And then after the game say "well they have a bigger graduating class"
-
lol, maybe that is because HD's graduating class has about 30 kids a year and Newton way more than that. LMAO! Of course Newton would win, bigger classification.
Kind of like the difference between.... oh.. Newton's graduating class and WOS. Or Liberty, Jasper, Buna, Silsbee....
I believe the point was to not be scared to play bigger schools. I mean...if you truly have a " powerhouse".
What a joke. -
I know one small school team that will beat HD like a drum.. Just saying
Careful. Chances are HD has an overall winning record against your school from 1920-1998. That means they could beat you today. -
I heard bobcat55 didn't even play. I heard he was a tuba player. Just saying...

You have zero knowledge of the process.
haha.. Exactly what I was thinking. -
Oldschool if we really go "old school" for the records, HD holds the all time series record against several schools that you might have heard of-Nederland, beaumont high, baytown, if I remember right port neches, and Port Arthur. I know this is REALLY old school. 1930's and 40's
There's not a doubt in my mind HD holds all time records against virtually everybody they've ever played. PAST tense of course. My point is that those days are gone. Past players don't play today. In HD's case....past player's kids don't even play today. They all left. -
What team do you support oldschool2 ? What's it's all time record against HD ? Does HD have a losing (head to head) record against any 2A school in Southeast Texas?
I support everybody, but I'm a realist. Work brought me to setx, and I love high school and college sports. This forum is a fun hobby and people tend to get extremely riled up. I think its funny.
I comment a lot regarding HD...because HD fans are really something else. They want desperately to return to "glory" but never will. To think they will ever have the same success as the 60's and 70's is absolutely absurd. The town was at peak oil production, peak population, peak success. I've made it a goal to get that point accross. HD has become my "project"
I think Hardin will steadily improve, but are historically cursed with a pretty tough district. It doesn't help that schools like Kountze are taking athletes out of the gym. Make no mistake tho, their bball will suffer if football keeps improving. Very difficult to be good at everything.
I will say this, I've been all over the state. Setx has a lot of talent, but is for the most part worse than other parts of the state. I think it's because of money. -
HD should not be used in the same sentence with Huntington and Hardin regarding wins lol. Be smart... HD has won 63% of its games all time, Huntington and Hardin 30%...
90% of HD's wins are against teams like Hardin and Huntington. -
He's better off. Talent's gone after this year...not that they had much
-
I will agree that HD has a thick football tradition. Especially pre-Y2K.
But mediocre is exactly what sums up the last 15 years.
If I'm wrong 55..just tell me the last time and year that HD beat a good team. Not a "bigger" school...a good team. A team that either had a winning record or a team that won at least a playoff game. -
Ok 2-8 oldnegativeschool2!!!!!! lol
what a clown..
ok well here's my prediction.
HD 10-0
Playoff record .... 0-1 -
Your right, HD will never beat any good teams without the Lavalais brothers. lol. Your funny. Your the same guy who always talks negative about HD, no matter who we have. A real fan would have noticed Finney never over dosed on using either Lavalais boy. He is known for playing through his system and sharing the ball. Not what all Coaches do, most would have gave Darrell Lavalais the ball 25 times a game.
Other than the qb, who shared carries? I'm pretty sure a majority of those kids sharing carries were seniors. If I'm wrong just say so.
And by the way...I was referring to the Lavalais kid as linebacker. What was HDs record without him in the middle of the defense. PLUS the rest of that big senior class at various positions.
what was jv record? jh record?...you think two skill kids from Liberty will overcome that? -
HD will do what they've done for the last 15 or so years. They'll beat every team on there schedule that is terrible, and lose to every team that is good.
I understand that the kid from Liberty is so athletic and agile...that they couldn't make the basketball playoffs with him... And they couldn't beat Alto with the cousin.
I don't see how anybody could possibly think they'll be good after losing all they lost. Think about the difference last season with and without the Lavalais kid. -

You seem to be the only person on here not getting it lol. Right Gator?
what am I not getting? Handheld stopwatches are not accurate. You say yall have a kid in the 4.4-4.5 range...according to a handheld stopwatch.
that's not accurate. Seems to me that you don't get it. -
Ok oldschool no high school player ever has ran a 4.4 or 4.5! Only 5.2's! LMAO! SMH!
oh I get it..you never learned to read. Well let me just explain what those articles say.
When using a handheld stopwatch. From the time a person starts, to the time coach presses a button, is this thing called a delay. This "delay" actually causes times to start later than real time, causing times to be faster. On average 2 tenths of a second faster. In other words...that 5.3 you ran in high school...was actually a 5.5. Or slower. There is a reason they don't use stopwatches at the combine...or the Olympics...or NASCAR...or horse races. Understand.
By the way..I understand that lighter people can run faster than heavier people. In fact I could post another link of an article written by Johnny Manzeil's trainer about the correlation between strength to body weight percentage and speed.... But you probably wouldn't understand it either. -
I found something for both of you guys. They both explain how inconsistent handheld stopwatches are compared to electric timers. 0.2 of a second difference. That's the difference of 4.49 and 4.69.
I guess the stopwatch does in fact lie.

Hoping they find a Defense for the upcoming season. Offense should do fine, won't have the big power backs pounding the middle, However the two move ins (Doucet / Deblanc) are very fast. The stop watch don't lie oldschool2.
I just find it funny that all these kids have the same or better 40 times than the running backs and receivers at the NFL combine.
I don't think some people realize how fast a 4.4 is. And a person's hand on a stopwatch is not reliable. -
One of my most favorite things....is somebody talks about somebody's 40 time.
Especially since they have been talking about how 4.4 and 4.5 40's at the NFL combine are blazing fast...
But every school in the state has kids in the "high 4.4 range".
What a joke -
If you could pick any 5 players from the district to play against other districts...the first one you pick if the MVP. Obviously that's what the coach's decided was the best player. Doesn't always have to come off a championship team.

I'm not saying HD shouldn't be proud of their past. But...they have won 63% of their games, and I bet a lot of those wins are against schools like Hardin. 33%. Not real impressive if you really think about it.
what are you basing these "nasty" 8th and 9th grade "studs" on. It was my understanding that HD football hasn't won hardly any games lately. As far as subvarsity that is. -
Here is an interesting fact that I wasn't quite aware of. I knew it was bad, but not as bad as it really indicates.
From 1946 to 2000, Hull Daisetta beat Hardin 42 times, and loss only 3 times. The 3 Hardin wins, all came at Hornet Stadium.
In 54 years, Hardin never beat HD, in HD.
But then something changed,
From 2001-2013, Hardin has beat HD 5 out of 8 games.
I guess Hardin took beatings long enough, before the tide started turning in Hardin's favor. I hope this trend continues. No offense HD faithful, but history is on your side, and we need to try and even this thing out, before I die, preferably.
There is a simple solution to these statistics. The overall record is a direct result of the population of HD, both town and school. When the oil field started diminishing so did the town. The school was soon to follow. Hardin started winning games when the school population of HD started falling. It will continue to happen. The town is dying slowly. There aren't as many people, or the same kind of people that were there in the 70's. And there never will be again.
Don't look for HD to beat Hardin consistently anymore.

It doesn't matter who gets the job. All that matters is that the new coach lost to HD when he was in high school. And so did his dad.
And probably grandpa too.
