Too funny 😂 I think we can all agree now that this was one last “home run hire” by Smalley before going to the dark side (relax Cards, I kid). With a top 10 coach in SETX at the helm (he’s been on my list for years), and the talent coming up through the pipeline, the Bobcats have a chance to be a 3A power for the next several years (assuming they stay 3A, which they should). Unless there is some major real estate development very quickly, there isn’t a ton of room for population growth in OF. (Sidenote: with Orangefield and Kountze trending up, EC is going to need to up that recruiting budget so they can get back in the mix for those BISD transfers wirh HF. Step it up Bucs!)

Just an FYI Orangefield won district at every sub-varsity level. And 7th grade through Varsity, they’ve lost one game. That’s right one (the first varsity game with Kountze obviously). The future is very bright for Bobcat basketball I would say. (Thanks to Mr. Todd Shores for that info.)

I saw that and don’t really understand that move for Kelly. Has to be something more to that decision for him, no?

I’ve only been following 25 years and change. But assuming the good Lord keeps him healthy, I can’t imagine he won’t end up being the best to lace em up during my time here. Remarkable he’s only a sophomore.

Shooting is often predicated on defense. For instance, I would venture to guess most 19-4A teams have their worst shooting nights against Silsbee. And while I would agree that whichever team shoots it better will be a significant advantage, one number jumped out at me way beyond any other in the first meeting. Orangefield simply cannot turn it over 28 times and expect to have a chance to win the game.

I think many of us probably appreciate your football postings (including AAW I’m guessing). Whether it’s Bellville or another team from that district, it is nice to know what’s ahead come playoff time from someone who has put eyes on those teams.

May end up being Clay’s best coaching job. And he’s had many.

Hoping we figured some stuff out last night. UNO’s big may have been the best scoring big they’ve played. Had about 10 points in the first 8 minutes until the Cards found a matchup he struggled with. Also will help not struggling against the 3 like we have for 3 years with rim protection. But that’s easier said than done these days as almost every kid is conditioned out of HS to double down when the ball goes to the block (because very few high schools have a dominant big). Disclaimer: I’m biased but I also know of what I speak.

And reading is key. BYU made them take off the shirts. But that narrative isn’t as fun, I get it.

Trust me when I say 90 percent plus don’t care. I believe the majority are like me and take it as a compliment that those who do it are advertising the brand. And RT whining about it after the UCF loss got him more criticism from the longhorn faithful than the loss. But others thinking it does helps do it all the more, great with me.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where he tells the lady taking the reservation is easy, it’s holding the reservation that’s most important. I’m sure aggy stiffing players won’t negatively effect future recruiting though (as if the other schools didn’t have enough ammo 😂)
