  1. back in '99 HJ beat Barbers Hill 3-0. That was an incredible game.
  2. i doubt either will ever be broken. the strikeout record is more vulnerable, but i don't see it happening. the bullpen plays a much more prominent role than it did throughout nolan's career. these days, strikeout pitchers don't get to go that deep into games, so nobody who has a chance of catching him will pitch enough innings in their career to do it, as they'll be pulled every time they hit 115-120 pitches.
  3. if a teacher drinks occasionally during the summer, are they going to have problems teaching in september? occasional marijuana use during the offseason is not going to effect how he's playing during the season. don't twist my words. now if he smokes pot every day during the offseason, gets the munchies all the time, gains 30 lbs, and subsequently lacks the ambition to go out and practice, then sure, smoking pot in the offseason will effect his playing ability. I'm not saying what he's doing is ok, I'm just saying that his comment about it not being a big deal FROM A BASKETBALL STANDPOINT is reasonable. actually wasn't even referring to your comments. my fault should have been more clear. I was referring to Howard's comments that it has no effect on him doing his job. Having no experience with marijauna, I was throwing a general question out there. oh, ok. cool ;D
  4. You are my hero... dangit. i could really use those 99 points, too.
  5. i agree. they are much better, because of all those 1st round picks finally developed they've drafted well, that's for sure
  6. Amen! Maybe Cuban can coach them next year and they can miss the playoffs all together.
  7. in all honestly, if you look past 2001 and 2002, Barry has never been that good. His last 4 seasons in oakland he went: 14-12 11-11 14-13 16-10 the giants then proceeded to pay him like he's the offspring of Johan Santana and Josh Beckett. He moves to a team that is going to score less runs and provide worse defense for him, and his record for his first season at San Fran is 11-13. I'd say anybody with half a baseball brain could've predicted his record based on his past 4 seasons combined with him moving to an inferior team. If you look at his numbers this year, he's hasn't been stellar, but his first four starts weren't completely awful. Here are the numbers for his first four starts... now granted, he got shelled in starts 5 and 6, but he started out decent, and i don't think anyone would go beyond calling him a decent pitcher. Start 1: 5.0 IP, 4 ER Start 2: 5.0 IP, 3 ER Start 3: 6.0 IP, 1 ER Start 4: 6.0 IP, 3 ER There's no reason that on a team with an actual offense that he couldn't have started out 2-2, or even 3-1. I think people's expectations are based on his salary instead of his skill set. I also think that the pressure of losing his first four games, which were all winnable, has probably gotten into his head. Maybe with some time in the bullpen he can get things straightened out, and maybe get a cheap win or two to gain his confidence back. I'm sure if he gets his mindset right, he can get back to being the .500 pitcher he was always destined to be.
  8. Fresh or saltwater or does it matter? either is fine... i don't really care. we go out to the rigs some, but with the price of gas, i'm going to have to cut WAAAAAY back on that
  9. it was an old dude trying to do the truffle shuffle. no way i give it back!
  10. smoltz was never this bad... i'm just surprised the rangers haven't traded 3 top prospects for him yet. he won't lose too many more games from the bullpen, as i doubt they're going to put him in during close games anytime soon.
  11. dude, i love daily! chain smoking and driving off of a diet dr. pepper can!!! you can't beat it. i'm just glad the PGA makes him wear a shirt during tournaments.
  12. i'm glad i've been put out of my misery. the mavericks were a DISTANT second in this matchup. CP3 is pretty much my new hero.
  13. glad i still have someone to root for... i hate the spurs, and mark cuban makes good trades, so the rockets are all i have left.
  14. what an incredible specimen! it's rare that you get a pro golfer with the body to play multiple sports... golfer, lineman, sumo, goalie.
  15. All is good - No use of the asstriks atrisk STAR! So I can say $%^#@ ^%@% *&^ as long as I dont say * ? Is that correct ? P.S. My positive karma just visited happy town! D someone just got a visit from the karma fairy!
  16. you need a rafael palmero jersey
  17. all i know is that it's not me... i'm a lover, not a smiter.
  18. i'll allow you this much... pedroia, and tulowitzski both have a lot of upside, but there are two or three players at each position who are going to be much better them throughout their careers. as for lincecum, i really don't mind that choice. he's VERY young, and he's got insane stuff. he's been striking out batters like crazy, and he already has 4 wins for a giants team that's going to struggle to get 70 for the year.
  19. dude, seriously, i couldn't agree with you more. the ONLY thing that pisses me off is how he's handled it... if he would just own up to it, say he's sorry, and that he made a mistake, i honestly believe that 90% of the clemens haters would pretty much immediately consider it a non-issue. the longer he denies all of this, and the more information and evidence that comes out which shows he's lying, the more people are going to hate him.
  20. i think it's just something about wearing the Astros uniform. Lidge's stats this year: 11 IP, 12 K, 0.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 6/6 on saves Qualls' stats this year: 14.2 IP, 14 K, 0.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 1/2 on saves, 8/8 on holds Wheeler's stats this year: 13 IP, 7 K, 1.38 ERA, 0.62 WHIP, 5/7 on holds Valverde this year: 12 IP, 15 K, 7.50 ERA, 1.92 WHIP, 4/7 on saves Valverde last year: 64.1 IP, 78 K, 2.66 ERA, .95 WHIP, 47/54 on saves
  21. I doubt it... i don't see them finishing higher than 3rd. Boston should win the division this year, and the yankees usually turn it on late in the year. that being said, the rays are greatly improved, and now have a solid core on offense, and are developing some pretty good young starters. i think their record will keep improving over the next few years.
  22. Are there any decent spots in or near the beaumont city limits to fish? i don't mind sitting at a canal all day for a bass and a couple of crappie, but i sure would like to find a little better fishing. any suggestions?
  23. McNamee and his defense is not the issue here. Is McNamee a good guy? Of course not. The question is whether Roger is a good guy. The problem is that Clemens has always sold himself as a hard worker and a family man, the type of all american guy who plays the game hard and fair, and when he's done goes home to his wonderful family. Now we find out he used HGH (sure he denies it, but his wife and best friend used it, and Petitte sure wasn't testifying on Clemen's behalf during the hearings), and that he's had an affair (it started when she was a little older, so i guess it's ok). All things aside, I really wouldn't criticize the guy for cheating at baseball or in his marriage, as many people do those things. The problem that i have is that even though it's pretty apparent he's done these things, he'll still stare straight into the camera and deny them. He'll go to the lengths of filing defamation suits against McNamee, even though circumstancial and physical evidence would lead us to believe he's taken steroids (the mitchell report was shockingly accurate, as only two major leaguers on the list denied using steroids, the other being David Justice). He's also flat out denied he ever slept with McCready, although it's looking more and more likely that he did, as McCready said she could not deny anything in the initial report. People would not be so hostile towards him if he'd just own up to the things he's done. I really don't hate the guy. If you read back in some other threads, I'm not really a fan at all of the Mitchell report and congress being involved with baseball. I just have a lot more sympathy for someone who will own up to their mistakes.
