Nederland @ Central Feb 3: Predictions
bullets13 replied to asary's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Picked Central on the preview show, so i'll stick with it. Central wins, 54-52. -
Hopefully they play as well as they did against Sislbee in OF. They were only down 15 with 2 min. to go in game.
truthfully, i hope they do, too. I want HJ to face as many tests as possible over the next couple of weeks before playoffs start.
Silsbee...probably BIG... ;)
agree. silsbee 79-54.
The only thing that gets hyped up on this board is HJ vs. Silsbee or Nederland vs. Central/Ozen. Look at all the other links. There isn't going to be any hype for this game on here. No biggie on that, but it should come as no surprise to anyone. Hopefully the hawks overlook the Bobcats, like the Longhorns did on Tuesday. Doubtful, but one can always hope.
the hawks could overlook the bobcats and STILL win by 20-25 points. but like lazeek said, OF might find a way to keep it semi-interesting at home.
those fish look VERY similar to other flounder you have caught :-X ;D
that's because most flounder look alike.
Photo shopped. I've seen those fish before on a TP@W website. ;)
that's also because most flounder look alike. if either of you naysayers has an interest in blowing the dust off of your boats, i'll be happy to show you where we caught them :)

that sucks, but so does a small school meeting up with an inner city school in the playoffs that has 500 more kids enrolled and that is able to pull kids in from all over a huge city.
You find a more feasible solution and we'll pitch it to UIL. In the meantime, I'll watch teams like Kountze compete with 1/2 of the local 4A teams in the area and laugh at you. You see, its the quality of the basketball pool that is so much more important than the size of the basketball pool. Take HJ and Silsbee. Together, they've beaten probably every 4A and 5A team in the area this year alone.
laugh away... if kountze was 3A, they'd be about the 30th best team in the state. and there are many 3A schools that are closer in size to Kountze than they are to the 3A schools at the top of the spectrum. and this is the reason i brought up huge cities, and schools pulling in kids from all over those cities, but keeping enrollment under 1000. Which basketball pool has more quality... Hardin Jefferson, or the entire city of Houston, which Yates seems to pick and choose players from?

If not, then 2A schools with enrollments of 200 should be competitive with 3A schools with enrollments of 750.
good Lord, we have that today! Have you heard of Kountze, East Chambers, and New Waverly. To paraphrase somebody else, The ratio system is an awlful system, But it is by far the best system available.
i think a 6A classification is the way to go. making the gap between the smallest and largest schools in a classification would be better than the ratio system, IMO.

I can't wait until the day one of these little ole 3A teams knocks mighty yates out of the playoffs, especially if its one of out local teams.
Sorry, you'll be too old to remember what happened when and if that day comes. ;)
It will happen, just a matter of time. I remember a game last year, that you said my Tigers couldn't win. No they didn't win it but only because the last spot just wouldnt fall. You said out was lack of focus by GBall, it only takes one night for that to happen and that last shot to happen to fall.
OMG! Back on that game again, huh? Let me say it in a different way. Ball did not take Silsbee as serious as Silsbee took Ball. And as I predicted, Ball won as expected. They played *down* that game.
and assuming yates comes into 3A as confident as YOU are with them, they'll be playing "down" to opponents' levels through the entire playoffs... which means one of the several quality teams in this region could easily pull off an upset.

As in 1-a is 200-400 etc etc
2012-2013 & 2013-2014 5A 2090 & up 4A 1005-2089 3A 450-1004 2A 200-449 1A 199 & below *99.9 & below
wOW! From 450-1004!
That's about a 2.2 ratio from smallest to largest. Not much different than 2A (2.25) and 4A (2.1).
true, but the difference between 200 and 400 is nowhere near the difference between 450 and 1000. The ratios are similar, but that's a huge gap between attendance numbers. if i have 399 kids at my school, and you have 200, i only have 200 extra students. if i have 1000 kids, and you have 450, i have 550 extra students to find a starting five for my basketball program... that's a HUGE advantage.

He has his critics.
::) ::)
his team full of recruits will probably be too much for them, but from a coaching standpoint, he's no better than them. from what i've seen, he's probably worse, as he doesn't know how to play but one style.
Someone told me a few years back Yates was having issues with staying open due to test scores. In the 80's they were 5A, 00's 4A, and now 3A. Look out 2A!
Pretty soon they'll be 1A division 2. They'll only have 12 boys at the high school, but all of them will be at least 6'5", except maybe their point guard :)

yup. not too many small town schools are going to appreciate them bending rules in order to field college teams in 3A basketball...

wonder how many kids Yates had to "recruit to leave" to drop that many students...

Thoughts on Silsbee/HJ part 2
Dickie.......since I was unable to attend last night I hope I get the chance to say hello in the playoffs sometime!
come out to the Hamburger Depot next week... Dickie should be there. -
i still maintain that HJ is the better team, but i got to watch the first half and part of the 3rd quarter on the live feed, (while listening to our setx broadcast with it's delay), and i feel there is very little separating these teams. earlier in the year i would've said hj wins 8 out of 10 meetings. now i'd say 5 or 6 of 10. great win for the hawks! no more "wins in a row" for the tigers!
