He has a very strict "if you didn't win the state championship then your season was a failure" rule, so by his standards Stephenville and Tarkington were exactly the same until Briles took over. But your point is completely correct.

the only arbitrary thing here is your intentionally (at least I hope so, for your sake) obtuse interpretation of both the site rules and my response. you: coaches aren't supposed to be bashed, but this disgraced college coach gets bashed all the time on here. me: the rule applies to local high school coaches and players. you: well, this college coach coached two years of high school 5 hours away, and sometimes people who don't know anything talk about him coaching locally. You guys don't follow your own rules.

You know one thing that I think has changed more than anything is the internet and social media letting us know about all of these horrible cases, and if anything the advancement in LEO technology has discouraged some crime. I think there were probably just as many cases back then, we just never heard of them. I think if news coverage and social media was available back then like it is now, not nearly so many people would've been comfortable leaving their doors unlocked or letting their kids play outside alone. Serial killers in the 60s-70s-80s were killing large amounts of victims and nobody ever even heard about it, and even when there was biological evidence there was often little to no way to connect it to the killer. -

Suspect in murder of Jefferson County teen arrested in Williamson County | KFDM The arrest affidavit is including in the article, and the details of this case are pretty mindblowing. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see this case end up on Discovery ID at some point. -
I played a couple of years of soccer at ETBU, and had a blast! You're absolutely correct that D3 is a great option for kids without offers who'd like to continue their playing experience a few years.

Turf is good for football, but I absolutely hate it for soccer. The turf puts unnatural spin on the ball and the bounces are ridiculous. There really is nothing better than a nice grass field for soccer. I know this is a football thread, but just thought I'd make the point.

Lot of truth in this article about the mainstream media.

I can deal with the media slanting things towards whatever side they're on, but basically omitting or trying to discredit news that reflects poorly on your party is a whole different ballgame. -

Pretty rough to be a person of color during those peaceful times of the 50s. And I'm not talking about some of the made-up racism nonsense we deal with today. But I have no doubt that for some groups the 50s were a nice time. But that just kinda goes to the point I was making that "the good old days" generally aren't much better than the current, just different. I had some great experiences growing up in the late 80s and early 90s, but I don't think things were necessarily better then, I just think the things that are bad now are different from what was bad back then. -

seems that way. -
I don't want it either way. You're the one who wants it both ways. Briles gets all the credit for taking a team that Finney built up and doing basically the same as Finney but having one good playoff run, but the next guy comes in and does better than Briles and goes just as far in the playoffs, and you're willing to attribute it to "Brile's foundation." The truth of the matter is they both built off of Finney's foundation. Only in Smitty-think is it possible to make the argument that a coach can take over a team with 6 wins in the two previous seasons, go 19-5 in his two seasons there, be replaced by a guy who goes 20-6 in two seasons, who's then replaced by a guy who's 14-1 his first year, and give all of the credit to the guy in the middle.
-
Brad Willard literally just took Mount Vernon to the same place in his first season with MV, and with a much better record than Briles had. They lost in OT to then 15-0 Brock in the state semis this season -----An actual fact.
-
Finney went 19-5 over two seasons at MV. Briles took over (and brought a ringer player in with him) and went 20-6 over two seasons. Thank God Briles was available to come in and rescue that program. Then again, the guy after Briles went just as far with a 14-1 record in his first season. So the coaches before and after Briles had better records? Maybe he didn't have nearly the impact you're insinuating he did.
-
Winnsboro was 4-6 and 2-8 in the two years before he arrived, then he went 9-5, 7-3, and 6-4. Seems like he did a heck of a job, although he doesn't look close to satisfying your mandatory state championship in 7 years requirement.

you know, I've always kinda thought it was funny when people talk about how bad things are now, and how good they used to be. Looking back in our country's short history, and seeing all of the violence and lawlessness of the wild wild west and displacement of native americans, slavery and violence towards african americans, all the gangster stuff in the first half of the 20th century, the drug/gang wars of the 80s-2000s, I have a hard time figuring how things were that much better at any point in the past apart from certain people being able to openly discriminate/hate groups of people they didn't like. Now don't get me wrong, there's a lot of woke nonsense that I don't like these days, but actual violent acts are no more common or senseless than they always have been, and our behavior as a society doesn't really seem much worse either. -
they've been talking plenty about stuffing the supreme court, and went above and beyond to try and remove trump from office for nonsensical reasons. does that tell you anything at all about who the democrats are, or are you one of those folks who only cares when the other side does something unethical to win? (and yes, there are plenty of repubs in this thread that are just as bad)
