  1. was about to say, united should have 3.
  2. you went to ETBU? if so, what years? and i remember his brother as well.
  3. HJ and LCM have solid teams, but aren't a threat to go to state. Lumberton has a shot at state, but will have to get by Lorena and Bay City. There's a decent chance that Bay City ends LCM, HJ, and Lumberton's seasons in three successive rounds.
  4. Man, I thought HJ was going to make the playoffs. They had a heck of a second half of district to make things interesting.
  5. BH and Goose Creek are playing in Baytown. Not sure of time.
  6. hey, that concrete ain't painting itself!
  7. google Los Angeles homeless pods. they're paying $800K for something that should literally cost a few grand. depending on what's inside them, I could possibly see the bill running up to around $15k-$20k (when you combine California's high prices with the high price of materials). Everyone involved with building these for these prices (and everyone who's involved with paying it) should be arrested. Never mind, just found a video of one. Maybe an 8x6 box with an AC, a cot, and some shelving. I go back to my "few grand" assessment.
  8. yup, me my wife, and both my kids. go ahead and just cut us a check for half of what we're worth, and we'll take it from there. save the city some money.
  9. that kind of goes back to what you said previously about "we can use it for ourselves, but you can't say it", like the n-word. but to the point I made, 6 of the 7 associations he named were designated at "American Indian" rather than "Indian"
  10. LA spending up to $837,000 to house a single homeless person - ABC News (go.com) This is beyond mindboggling me. I can house a single homeless person fairly comfortably for a few hundred bucks. All you need is a good tent, a decent sleeping bag, and a cheap cot and they're doing a lot better than they were before. I would think what LA is spending to house a single homeless person could be spent to feed a whole community of homeless for an entire year. Unless of course you're in california, where everyone has their hand in the pie.
  11. Back on the topic at hand, Elijah Parquet from HJ/WB started last two games for Colorado in the 2021 NCAA tournament.
  12. lets not get carried away. I'll give you "possibly" a sweet 16 appearance. it would depend a lot on their seed and their matchups. an 8/9 seed would've been fair for them, and i don't think it's likely they would beat any of the #1s to make the sweet 16.
  13. It's common knowledge, but I understand that some don't know. that said, having been informed, it's pretty funny how many people are offended that they're offended by the term.
  14. American Indian is a different term than Indian, and the designation of American makes it inoffensive, fwiw. The vast majority of American Indians prefer the term Native American.
  15. Caitlyn Jenner Reacts To Lia Thomas’ NCAA Championship (msn.com) Even Caitlyn Jenner feels that this is unfair.
  16. Would love to see Kevin Dotson get a shot at it. He's a great guy, and has coached in BISD for a long time. It's going to be a tough first job for whoever takes it with them having to play 6A opponents next season.
  17. If it's an internal hire like some are saying, then there aren't many options as to who it'll be.
  18. Huffman vs Lumberton, Friday 3/25/22 at 5:00 at EC
  19. assuming this is the same Mark Newton who graduated from Tarkington and that I went to college with at ETBU?
  20. I don’t disagree with this. My grandfather had no problem using this word, even when talking to me when I was a small child. The thing is, there wasn’t any malice in it, it was just how he’d been brought up.
  21. While I understand why some people are offended, the hypocrisy of Disney in all of this is not lost on me.
  22. When you were in grade school it was acceptable for white people to drop the N-word in casual conversations when referring to black people, so I don’t really think “it used to be this way” is a strong argument here.
  23. I should’ve said “used to be considered honorable”, but it’s a very fair comparison. Obviously I don’t believe that it was actually honorable, but the wealthiest, most respected people generally owned slaves. The worst things that white Americans have ever done involved slavery. The worst things that Indians ever did involved scalping. The fact that you don’t want slavery referred to as to having been honorable actually reinforces my point entirely. His post was trying to justify the Indian mascot doing the scalping motion because “it was honorable” when the Indians were scalping people. That’s not the way I’d want to be characterized if someone from another culture was impersonating me, just as, being a white man, I get very aggravated when some groups associate me with slavery because white men did it 200 year ago.
  24. It used to be “honorable” to own and abuse slaves. I don’t think it’s necessarily “woke” to not want your culture portrayed by the most brutal, savage acts that your people ever committed.
