  1. Maryland Court says parents can't opt kids out of LGBTQ+ curriculum: 'Not a fundamental right' (msn.com) The LGBTQ+ books added to the district's curriculum are included in pre-K through eighth-grade classrooms and feature references to gay pride parades, gender transition and pronoun preference.
  2. A couple of folks. One for a few weeks, the other permanently due to some other stuff combined with this thread.
  3. man, just went down the rabbit hole on here that got everyone banned. holy crap. glad I didn't get sucked into the middle of all that.
  4. the thing i know is that he aint going back to Cuba.
  5. not sure about making our coverage area better, but when lumberton does well it is good for the site. not as crazy last year as it was several years past, but lumberton's last good team before this one brought a lot of traffic to the site.

  7. can't answer that, or how he was able to tolerate driving around with her like that. I can barely stand to clean a fresh gutshot deer.

  9. I guess. statistically it's pretty improbable since it's the only effort I've even made in several years. Once in a blue moon is probably a better description of how often I do pickems.
  10. I wanted to make sure that folks (and especially 5GB, since I was replying to him) knew that it wasn't a shot at anyone in particular. I won't say who crossed my mind when I made that post, but it wasn't CB or 5GB
  11. Amongst the evidence released: An interview with Paxton’s former personal aide who said he ferried documents to Paul on Paxton’s behalf and witnessed conversations about the renovations to Paxton’s home that suggested Paul had paid for it. Emails showing how Paul and his lawyer directed a special prosecutor authorized by Paxton to investigate Paul’s business rivals and law enforcement officials that had raided his home. Memoranda documenting numerous instances where Paxton’s senior advisers unsuccessfully urged him to cut ties with Paul, whom they suspected was a liar and criminal. Trip records obtained from Uber showing an account Paul created under the alias “Dave P” which Paxton used to travel to the home of Paul and the apartment of the woman with whom the attorney general was having an extramarital affair. An employment contract proving Paul hired Paxton’s mistress to work at his business.
  12. After taking several years off I played last year and finished 2nd for the regular season, 1st for the playoffs, and 1st overall. Somebody needs to beat me this year. Can’t have the football pickems won two years in a row by one of the site’s best soccer players 😀😀
  13. Not sure how society can choose not to allow people to live certain ways without legislation. I’m with you on not having it shoved in my face. I’m also with you on certain behaviors being allowed that shouldn’t be. I don’t care if some guy wants to wear a dress, but I take major exception to full frontal nudity in front of kids in pride parades. How that’s allowed is beyond my comprehension. I don’t need to tell you that you and I have different thresholds of what we’re okay with and what we’re not, but we’re not as far from each other on the Kirbyville issue as you might think. In fact, it’s safe to say we’re in agreement. When I say it won’t fly there but will somewhere else, that’s not me saying it’s okay somewhere else.
  14. Point taken. My limit is as long as it doesn’t hurt somebody else. Can someone teaching completely nude hurt someone? Undoubtedly. Does a man fully clothed in a dress teaching hurt someone? Probably not, but I don’t think that’s a discussion someone should be able to force on parents. It’s obviously a difficult subject
  15. you'll never get me to agree that you should be able to legislate morality. Freedom is freedom. I don't have to agree with something, but that doesn't mean it can't exist or should be illegal. Personally, I think it does more harm for a kid to grow up in close proximity to an a-hole (this is not an allusion to anyone in particular) than it does for them to see a dude in a dress, and there are a whole lot more of them than trans people. What legislation do we make to remedy that issue?
  16. [Hidden Content] synopsis: this guy is playing for a women’s rugby club and recently injured three women with hard tackles in a game. He’s not even attempting to look like a woman. In the 2022 season he played for the men’s division of the club and was voted “hardest hitter.”
  17. I don’t care what adults do with their lives. Let them be who they want to be. That said, I don’t believe that parents should be forced to explain about trans people to their children because of something they learned at school, whether it be something crazy in the curriculum, or a teacher transitioning in front of their eyes in the classroom. There are places where this would fly, but small town east Texas is not one of those places.
  18. I’ll be curious how this plays out. I seem to remember a sub in lumberton who was trans that was allowed to teach despite community protests due to the laws in place. Not sure if those laws have changed
  19. It's a brave strategy, Cotton! Let's see if it pays off for him!
  20. Pretty amazing that both teams are as good as they are considering the injuries, to be honest. Rangers lose a solid starter before the season, then their ace only a quarter of the way in. They had 6 all-stars, and within 3 weeks of the break 4 of them had been or were on the DL. Their offense is salty, though. They have guys in the bottom 3 or not even playing consistently that would be in the top half of the lineups of about 90% of the league. If their bullpen had been even a little better the first 2/3 of the season they’d be 30 games over .500 right now.
  21. Driver was on the roster last year, but doesn't show up for this year, unless they've removed him as a result of the crash, or sometimes Maxpreps is just wrong.
  22. Players have been identified across social media as Javion West and Treveyn Williams. Prayers to the families of both students, as well as to driver as he fights for his life.
  23. We lost a member of the HF community in a wreck not far from this last night as well. A man and his son were rear-ended by a vehicle going over 100 mph and the man died. His son was one of our pre-k students last year (which I teach, although he wasn’t in my class), and his mom teaches at our intermediate, so I know the family pretty well. The other vehicle fled the scene. Based on when and where Ive heard they occurred, I don’t think they’re related, but they happened close enough in time and distance, as well as the similarities in the crashes, that it has me wondering a little bit.
  24. Awful. Prayers sent.
  25. People suck sometimes. My last several dogs have been picked up off the side of the road.
