There are times when certain things are appropriate, and when they are not.  We can agree to disagree on the appropriateness of star baseball players doing contact football drills in the days leading up the baseball playoffs.

This is the part I wanted to add to my post but wasn't sure how to say it.  Being AD & HFC together sometimes creates a tunnel focus only on football at the expense of the other sports.  I've been in the coaching game long enough to have seen this happen.
I also agree with the statement that "To be fair, their job will be on the line based on the success of the football team." However, success (or lack thereof) in other sports will also reflect on the AD because he/she is the director of the entire sports program at a school.

I think that with a lot of "smaller" schools.. in the area for sure.. it's easier to justify giving a higher salary to the head football coach if AD is attached to the job.  In turn, being able to attract a higher caliber of applicant for the job.  Plus, you won't get a good football coach (in most cases) if they know they have other job responsibilities other than just coaching football.  Even if it's a "coaching job" like teaching P.E. or something... but head coaches will want to reserve those kinds of jobs for their coordinators.
And yes.. there will be cases where HFC/AD are much more partial to the football program than to the entire athletic program as a whole.  To be fair, their job will be on the line based on the success of the football team.. even if every other athletic teams in the school flourishes.  So I get it.
That's also why I don't really have a problem with hiring an AD only.  AD only can be solely responsible for the entire athletic department.. and the HFC can focus solely on the success of the football team.

I did see it on Facebook as well.  I do not know the person who said it as the post was shared by a friend.  Based on the content of the post, it was a resident of Liberty.  It was a well reasoned post for the most part but you are right, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

The list of things that can change between JH and HS is vast.  It's more likely than not that JH success won't be the same in HS.  1st and foremost.. 7th grade kids playing against everyone else's 7th grade kids and 8th grade kids playing against everyone else's 8th grade kids is not evenly remotely the same as 9-12th against 9-12th.  A grade level of kids playing with either the grade above them or below them.. or both can dramatically change the success/failure compared to when it was just them.  Not only do kids mature, gain strength, gain speed, gain size, and gain skill (both physically and mentally) at completely different levels and pace individually, but kids actually WORK and/or gain/lose interest completely different.  Forget about the other obvious variables.. like: academic eligibility, transferring (both losing and gaining kids), quitting, reclassification, coaching change, etc. etc. etc.
The situation for a Senior IS NOT THE SAME as that same kid's situation was when they were a 7th grader.  To think so is idiotic.
It's truly funny to me to hear people make predictions based on what happened in JH... might as well add little league as a predictor lol.

Not to be a negative Nancy, but having some good groups come through in JH usually doesn't translate to HS success. Back when I was in JH school, we destroyed everyone, went undefeated and were "district champs". Senior year in HS we went 5-5 and our coach got canned at the end of the year. 🤷‍♂️

I work with Regina and she has shown up to summer workouts for the girls program.

Also, someone on here is acting like they really know Regina and her family as they put details that seem to suggest that. Never mind that a detail or two are completely wrong.

Trust me, when Regina does retire, everyone will know.

Speaking of Vidor, my step-dad's parents had a barber shop around the corner from the high school in the 60's-70s, maybe into the early 80's.

No, I did not say BH was down.  I said it was based on what teams I have actually seen with my own eyes.  I have seen teams this season that are generally strong, like Huffman, be weaker than last year's team.  I hear the BH program is quite good but never will get a chance to see them unless I do so after I retire.  However, it helps that there are some clubs close to BH.   Girls from Hardin/Liberty area have to travel to do club ball if they do it at all.
Hardin usually plays the Wimberley Tex-Fest Tournament instead of the Central Heights tournament but rising costs of staying in the Wimberley area prompted a look around for a different tournament.  Central Heights had some solid teams in the tournament (not high powered like you would see at Wimberley) and we got some game experience there.   At Wimberley, Hardin played the likes of Laredo United, Stephenville, & Wimberley.  Last year, they went 2 rounds deep in the Gold Bracket before losing to Wimberley in 3.
Regarding your comment about Vidor, I do not know if they "played anyone with a pulse" but saw on here that they won the Silsbee Tournament and was told they were 7-0 coming into Hardin.

Some of you folks aren't actually here to talk volleyball.  Stirring the pot is what y'all like to do.
Yes, we have lost games.  Are we upset about it? Not at all.  It's all game experience to get better as a team.  I don't know if anyone noticed but Vidor came into Hardin having won the Silsbee tournament and was 7-0, but lost in 3 sets.   Like I said before, tournament/non-district games don't really matter.  Those games are to get ready for district play.
In my opinion, volleyball is down all across the board.  Even Huffman, who is coming off a state volleyball run last year, is down.  They are still good, but not the same as last year.   I have not seen many dominant teams this season, with the exception of maybe Tatum and Jewett Leon.
Edit: I want to say that the last paragraph is based on what I have seen.  I am sure there are some really great teams out there and I just haven't seen them.  I'm sure Barbers Hill is one of them.  I've never seen them play, obviously due to my job.  I'm sure y'all think it's funny I post on here but I actually do love volleyball and like to see the legit info that is posted here.

That is from the other teams who have a MaxPreps account.  When they record a win/loss, it is reflected in the other team's profile as well. Most years, the MaxPreps is very inconsistent in records.  Hardin does not have a MaxPreps account that is officially kept up by Hardin staff.   They are currently 4-5 at the moment, but improving every day.   If someone were to go back over the past years, one would see that the majority of the losses for Hardin seasons occurred in the early part of the season.
The question of the day: Are Kenny Powers and Jim Adler the same person?

I wouldn't say "destroyed."  Hardin's girls basketball has had some playoff basketball teams and same in softball. Matter of fact, Hardin won district in softball last year.
Hardin Baseball made playoffs a few years ago but ran into a buzzsaw of a pitcher, Grayson Rodriguez of Central Heights.  Rodriguez was drafted high in the MLB draft after the season.
But yeah, Hardin volleyball has been rolling for a long time and it's due to the Snells.

We played Huffman pretty well in the Dayton/YMBL tournaments even though we lost in 3 both times.  Scores were very close as well.
It was really early in the season when we played Stephenville at the Wimberley Tournament so my memory may be a bit off but I seem to remember that they had size (taller than Huffman) and one middle was really good.  Good blockers too, I think. Stephenville took Hardin down in 2 games. Scores were in the 25-16/17 range, I believe.

I think Buna wins but don’t think it’ll be a blowout. After watching Hardin play twice this year two things are evident. 1.) They will have less athletic kids than everyone they play. 2.) They’ll probably be coached as well or better than every team they play.

After seeing Hardin play Anahuac last week there’s no way the Hornets should have played within 10 points of the panthers. Of the 10 best athletes on the field, Anahuac had probably 8 of the top 10 if not 9. Same thing when they played Hearne to a 14-13 game. Ned Barrier is a difference maker over there in Hardin. I’m not sure if they’ll ever truly compete in this district for a top spot but he’s getting the best out of what he has without a doubt.

    My prediction:

    Buna - 28
    Hardin - 12

Cardinal Backer you seem to have some deep seeded frustrations going on.  I don't understand that because I am sure you were one of those guys in school who was a jock - who had a coach that was like a father to you.   Some of your argument makes sense.  The community size and effort.  However, as someone with 4 family members who teach I think I should shed a little light on your thoughts.
First, teachers contracts are for a MINIMUM of 187 days, not 182.  That will cause some adjustment to your daily rate.  I do not know of a single teacher that works an 8:00 - 3:30 day.  In fact, at Bridge City the day officially starts at 7:45 and ends at 3:45.  That is unless there is a faculty meeting or a certification meeting that is held - mandatorily.  The teacher does not make overtime for the extra hour(s).  Nor does the teacher get paid to take home the papers/projects/assignments he or she has to grade.  Nor does the teacher get compensated for all of the paper and pencils they are required to provide for the Larry's and Joe's that will not bring one from home.  Teachers are not compensated for the time they MUST spend in summer conferences.
For a coach it is so much better! I know a coach who kept a log of his schedule during football season.  This is what that looks like...
Monday 7:00 staff meeting.  Football practice from 3:30 - 5:45.  Get kids out of the building and in cars to go home - watch the practice video - plan tomorrow practice.  Go home at 7:15.  (12 hours)
Tuesday (laundry day) 7:00 to put out the laundry for the team.  Same practice schedule -- (12 hours)
Wednesday - 7:45 school.  After planning tomorrow practice - stay and watch about 30 minutes of film for the next opponent. Go home - 8:00 average --  (12 hours)
Thursday - JV game day.  Arrive at 7:00 to pass out uniforms.  School.  Load busses etc...  play a game or two (9th and JV) back home - start the laundry, clean the locker room.  Go home about 9:30 average.  (14.5 hours)
Friday - GAME DAY -- 7:00 arrive (laundry and uniforms), Taping, Film Prep, Meetings, Travel ? - Game. After game duties - Game review with the staff, start laundry, load video into the computer- Go HOME - average 11:30. (17.5 hours)
Saturday - 7:00 arrive.  Grade film. Watch film with the team.  Exercise the team. Send them home and then watch 3 games worth of video of the next opponent.  Staff meeting to generalize game plan.  Go home - 3:00 (8 hours)
Sunday - arrive 2:00.  Game plan.  Authorize game plan as a staff - Go HOME - 6:30 (4.5 hours)
    So let's add that up ---  12 + 12 + 12 + 14.5 + 17.5 + 8 + 4.5 = 80.5 hours per week.
Here is the kicker!  Schools pay coaches for all of that time!  Take a look -- BISD football is $3500.  They do not pay the extra 10 days that are required to start in July.  So in BISD - an assistant football coach will make $3500/80.5 hrs per week X 12 weeks minimum.  That is 996 hours minimum for 3500 =  $3.51 per hour.   Wait $3.51 per hour???  For a part time job.  Spring ISD is thought to be one of the better paying stipend schools -- for football they $6500.  Assuming the same schedule --- The better paying schools pay $6.52/hour.  That should make you turn over in your sleep!
Oh yea - you don't get to choose your teacher?  Well, you can change school?  You can go to private school?  You can home school?  And these days -- you can tell your kid to act up in class and report the bad behavior of the teacher to the school board and they will re-assign the teacher.
Fact of the matter is - that all jobs matter.

Carthage hadn't won a championship ever. Had only played in 1 in the history of the program. In the 7 years prior to Surratt arriving in 2007, Carthage had 2 1-9 seasons. Had not been out of the 2nd round of the playoffs in that decade. Surratt comes to town and 11 years later he has more championships than playoff losses. The jimmies and joes did not change. Coaching matters.
