  1. I would have to have more information on the incident to give a better answer. I would wager the charges were either felony or this is tied into an incident that may have occured on campus. I am going strictly by TEA rules and not individual district policies.
  2. This was not on school property. I don't condone drug usage but let's get our facts straight. Your right, I will give you that. I didn't notice the fact that the quote was in a bullet underneath that. So, let me ask you this question. A student gets in a fight off campus, charges are filed against him by the other kids family, that kid is scooped up and sent to AEP until those charges are dropped. How does that happen? Because it has. Was he charged with a felony such as with a deadly weapon? That would force the DAEP hand. Off campus felonies are a whole different ballgame.
  3. To answer the question...no the school does not have to suspend or do anything to this student according to the law. Does the BISD district take it upon themselves to place any student in DAEP for commiting off campus misdemeanors? I assure you every weekend there are many students caught by police violating laws. look no further than the juvenile justice department at the courthouse. Saying that if there is an athletic/campus/team policy then that is above and beyond what is required by law. It is very likely that the coach was unaware of this incident if the kid(s) didn't talk. Saveat has done a good job this year considering the circumstances he has been under. I find it hard to believe he is covering anything up.
  4. Nice cherrypicking of information. : Did we forget this little nugget of information to include? This was not on school property. I don't condone drug usage but let's get our facts straight.
  5. After glimpsing through some of these posts it is sad how ignorant so many posters here can be. I am against drugs and do not support them in any shape or form, but the law is the law. The kid has a misdemeanor that occured OFF CAMPUS. There may be an established rules of conduct agreed upon by the team but there is no UIL rule associated with this sort of thing. For those who think they know education law, educate yourself on Chapter 37 of the student discipline code. Off campus misdemeanors do not require a school to place a student in any DAEP setting. Off campus felonies may and in some instances require DAEP. Local law enforecment agencies are supposed to notify schools of off campus felonies within 3 days many times they are notified even with misdemeanors. This was not a felony and did not require such especially if it wasn't in the same county. So before folks throw a coach, administration, or more importantly a student under the bus know your facts. If anyone has any questions I encourage you to contact Mr. Leslie Smith the director of discipline for TEA.
  6. Different county plus not required to report misdemeanor. Barring a team rule he can't be deemed as breaking a school rule. Sad nonetheless.
  7. When all else fails start criticizing the lower levels. We might as well go ahead and state how the Silsbee 7th grade is a dominating group in bball and fball since afterall we want to talk future here.
  8. Actually, both teams were fine with using the Bmt. Chapter. They each provided who they did not want from the Chapter. It wasn't the case of one school not wanting to use the local chapter. It was requested to go outside and use the UIL.
  9. Maybe they view those projects as being a higher priority. What makes their decisions ridiculous and what business is it of an outside group/newsrag to determine such? It would be great if folks played a more active in their school boards and fully understood the entire picture. I would be curious as to the parental involvment the schools receive. It is truly sad when the only things coming from a school appear to be negative and adversarial between the community and school.
  10. Agreed! Whether the decision is deemed by some to be right or wrong at least have the conviction to stick with your decision.
  11. So wouldn't the school be violating state rules by singling out "failures"? The TEA already sent out a warning about having a TAKS reward "party" due to the school in effect showing who passed and failed. Schools can't share that information. There is no way their administraion did not received that notice. It came out in October. WOS surely would face lawsuits based on "sharing" confidential student informtion.
  12. I wonder if people on the street would spend $2-3K to get the best AP Microeconomics teacher in the state???? Sure, the same day the economics dept. brings the income the football program does, no problem. Never understood what makes a football coach worth so much more in education than a teacher........I guess now I do. :-[ Actually if one was to really look at the numbers one would find football does not make that much money in the big picture.
  13. With money the way that it is stadiums need to be on the backburner. I know they are great and exciting to look at and watch a game in, but with schools struggling to get funding, folks losing jobs or struggling to make ends meet the focus should be using those resources on students in the classroom IMO.
  14. Does anyone even attend these games? I seen a brief glimpse of Armed Forces/First Responder weekend and it looked empty. How long until they fold like a lawn chair? ???
  15. Interesting if he is done for awhile. My money then goes on Joubert.
  16. If I'm not mistaken the kids have to have 5 consecutive days off.
  17. What not accurate? This was mentioned early in the season if not before the season. (I don't feel like tracking the post down.) Folks act like it was some backdoor deal that no one knew about when that obviously wasn't true. Others act like the program will all but die due to the buses not being used. And it is to the point you'd think some would rather have staff fired than to have buses run. This is how it is coming across. WOS will be fine. The kids will manage getting to practice. I probably know more about the internal central office at WOS than you'd imagine.
  18. So you're going to be losing money here, your stance makes sense now. And before you start spouting about tutorials read what was written. I was being sarcastic about getting the impression folks would rather see a teacher cut before a bus ride.
  19. This has to be the most idiotic post ever. It definitely is grasping at straws. If one was astute enough to look into this they'd find it was being discussed for months. Seems to me the folks over at WOS should be more involved in their school system. Also by this logic it is being alluded to that the kids and parents at WOS are not dedicated enough to be part of the program without this transportation. I have yet to hear how many kids this truly involves and benefits. WOS will be fine. The kids will still participate. WOS's numbers are dropping thus monies are going down as well. Maybe they just need to fire the reading or math tutorial teacher afterall we know what is more important. :
  20. As of the beginning of this school year Josh was still working towards his teaching certification. Unless something has changed over the past couple months he won't be considered. One coach has been contacted by BISD administration.
  21. Unfortunatly the "no child left behind" along with TAKS testing has a lot of "older" kids in middle schools right now. Some won't be able to play 4 full seasons in high school.
  22. Any coach worth their salt shouldn't leave their current program until after the season to pursue the Ozen position. I personally hope someone inside who is familar with everything gets the interim position until after the season IF Boutte has to leave early.
