  1. Coaching is important, but without players, it can only go so far; coaching is about getting the most out of what you have and building culture
  2. might be my first like ever for you, reagan, but I'll gi might be my first like ever for you, reagan, but I'll give you one for having a sense of humor...lol
  3. By the 7 year rule, Bobby August should have had more time...lol
  4. Nolan Ryan pitched 27 seasons and never won a Cy Young...guess he's a failure?
  5. Heck, Reagan used to gripe about Neumann, too...lol...you bring in someone else, and short of winning state every year, he will be against them, too
  6. I am going to reserve judgement on Nederland until this group has a chance to be refined...they are very young and I am still very confident that their best football is ahead of them (if they can avoid listening to people like the one's on here)...this year saw the program lose a number of players and key contributors for various reasons that, from what I know of, are very abnormal and unusual circumstances...it left the team with more holes to fill than usual; they are filling them as best they can, and will be stronger for it down the line...tough times don't build character, they reveal it...some of the naysayers on here are showing theirs, but hey, it's an opinion board and everybody is entitled to theirs...I said it on another thread and I'll repeat it here, to blame coaching during a bad season, to me, is just too easy, lazy, and low hanging fruit...let's see what happens over the long haul...these same coaches had a group of kids in the 3rd round just 2 seasons ago that frankly, not many thought would be there...are they worse coaches now or maybe, just maybe, are the circumstances different this season? Just a little something to think about
  7. These are very good points...to complain about coaching when things aren't going your team's way is frankly lazy and just low hanging fruit IMO....it's just too easy to blame coaches for a bad season...coaching, high school especially since they have no control over their talent pool, should be judged over time and what they are able to do with the level of talent they are given...it has always amazed me that a coaches intelligence is somehow directly corelated to the level of talent they have. The Belichek and Payton examples are good ones...has Belichek suddenly gone from "the greatest coach ever" to a blithering idiot since losing Brady? I doubt that...likely truth is that he wasn't as great as he was made out to be before and he isn't near as bad as he is made to be now...bottom line is that he has a long-standing track record of success...is Sean Payton a "bad coach" because he couldn't win a simple pee wee super bowl as an NFL coach, or did maybe, just maybe, the other team have better players? I'm just gonna go out on a limb and guess that Sean was probably a better coach than whoever was on the other sideline, it just did not translate into a "W"...the same happens every week and every year in high school ball
  8. Preach BayouB... I made the same point last week...this same staff dramatically OVER achieved just season before last...agree, same staff, different players...they are young and need to adjust to Friday night speed and these guys will improve as the season progresses...what that looks like, who knows, but I think it bodes well for the next couple of years I'm just glad I will never have to be in a foxhole with spidersal
  9. Who blamed the kids? You sound like MSNBC trying to spin a story... lol..heck, Etheridge's last year coaching at Round Rock, he was 2-8...did he suddenly become a subpar coach or were the circumstances different??? my guess is, the man was still one hell of a football coach
  10. I guess it's natural for naysayers to always point to coaching first when things don't go as they want...teams and talent change from year to year...it has always amazed how closely a coaches success is tied to the quality of his talent pool...there seems to be a pretty close relationship there...to me, this is the same coaching staff that tremendously overachieved just season before last by making round 3 with a team that not many felt could go that far...things didn't go the way fans liked last year, so now "we ain't happy"...the coaches are the same, and for my money, I will take Nederland's staff any day of the week...to me, they have proven to get the most out of what they have and more importantly, do a good job of developing young men (isn't that their most important job?) I don't know too much about this year's team...sounds like they might be young and I know they have had some losses that have, from what little I know, have very little to do with football or the football program...brings me back to a young Nederland team in 2010 that started and played a bunch of sophomores due to injuries, etc...that team improved as the year went on, rode some senior leadership along with those youngsters and managed a decent, playoff season...in 2011 and 2012, that group was dominant and won back to back district titles without losing a district game and going 3 and 4 rounds deep respectively, with the 2012 team ranked in the Top 10 most of the season and beating #1 ranked Pearland Dawson...let's let this young group develop and improve this year, see what they can do, and then hope for bigger and better things as they gain experience and confidence...I have all the faith in the world that this coaching staff will get every ounce they can out of them, this year and beyond
  11. He can't hang up the Etheridge thing...I think I stated pretty clearly that the circumstances have changed pretty dramatically since then...Etheridge was indeed a great coach, but I'm not certain that he would have experienced state title runs at png in today's environment I also agree that this conversation is fruitless...my last reply to Reagan will be to answer his last question to me, is 12 years enough? IMO, the question should NOT be can a coach make an SC run in any certain time period...what can a coach do with what he is given...for png, I think playoffs should certainly be a expectation each and every year and making at least the 2nd round could be considered a successful season, depending on what kind of team they have...example, given what they did this year and what they have returning from that next year, I should think getting at least to the 3rd round would be the expectation...barring injuries, anything short would be disappointing...I would think that this season would be considered overachieving since they were thought to be a struggle to even make the playoffs and went 3 rounds deep...overall, I would characterize Faircloth's time at png as a success...those who think otherwise may well get to find out soon, it sounds like, if it was or not?
  12. and it can be set too low, I agree...no argument there...it can also be set unrealistically high...wanting to get rid of guys for failure to win SC's falls in that category IMO
  13. I am figuring this out...Reagan must be a politician...he attempts to takes what others say and make it fit his narrative. I'll simplify for you...Great or very good coaching alone will in no way guarantee you what you measure as the only form of success, an SC...you can have the very best of coaches and still not reach the promised land
  14. According to Reagan, they are horrible failures...lol
  15. Never said that chief...read the whole comment...I said that the circumstances back then were FAR different and the playing field from a pure numbers standpoint was more level You can be a great coach, but if you don't have the numbers or the talent pool, it alone will NOT produce you a state championship...my point is that being judged, in this environment, purely on whether or not you "win state", is not a good barometer...Etheridge, as fine of a coach as he was, would have found the sledding a bit harder in this situation Just find another measuring stick to determine whether your coach should keep his job or not...there are plenty of other things you can measure him by
  16. Not saying it's impossible, but let's just say that anyone hoping for a Nederland or png state championship as the divisions are currently constructed better not hold their breath...it's a huge numbers game disadvantage...5A Div 2 has about a 600-700 enrollment number disparity with those 2 being on the lower end of that...this isn't the 70's and 80's or even 90's when the playing fields were more level...no one's fault, just the way the state of Texas has grown and how many new schools have popped up as a result...also, the boundaries are blurred as many are very close together geographically and kids have a bit of a "choice" as to where they go...just saying maybe some who play certain sports chose to go to certain schools and this creates pretty strong programs...that doesn't exist here
  17. Oh wise one, this is the first time barrow has NOT made the playoffs…before you make such statements, please fact check
  18. Mighty Mecca whining for calls against lowly Nederland?
  19. Uhh, spider, it’s the same people who have been coaching them to success for many years…invalid argument
  20. Why would you put your best playmaker in harms way in the wildcat in a game that you are gonna win regardless??
  21. look, I'm a Dog fan, but png is a above average coached team IMO and Faircloth is a legit good guy...wish him the best except for one week a year
