If you had 4 coaches that picked a team of 5 and there was a tournament for the fun of it, whichever coach got 1st pick would NOT pick someone off this list first. People get to tied up in not picking to many kids off of one team. If Silsbee had the 3 of the top 5 kids in the area, all 3 should be on this team. Do not get me wrong, this group of kids is a nice group! But a top 5 list of the area that does not have McCain on it is silly to me! Other than that, the list is perfect!

Wax life is a very well coached team. Like I have stated before, these are the type teams that scare me the most when it comes to Silsbee.
I thought Silsbee played fine. WL played very well.
I actually can see Silsbee beating Yates by 15 tomorrow.
This Yates team is not very impressive like in the past. I can see a 15-20 point win as well

Lumberton beat them twice because they had a great game plan. WOS has 3 guys who are pretty athletic and prob a kid who is top 3 best players in the district.
Wait, what? Top 3 best player in the district? I don’t know much about the game of basketball, but I’m pretty sure all 3 of the best players in this district are on the Maroon and White team.

Thats a BIG turnaround from that first game....what was the big difference? Did one team miss players in one of these games or just a product of two not very good teams?
Anahuac had 3-4 kids back that didn’t play first game and we lost a couple. One of those kids that came back for them had 30 points and 12 assists. He is good. Good game both teams very young

If it’s #14 for Silsbee 7th grade then yes he’s about 6’1 ,6’2
That kid has been there. Kountze did not lose a 6’2 7th grader lol

Silsbee just got a 6'2 7th grader from Kountze last week as well.
Huh? You sure about that?

Without move ins, they won't.
Kountze will bounce back. They return everyone plus some.

Did Yates really get a 6'7 and a 6'9? How does that even work??? And about this game..HJ is well coached and they took advantage of Silsbee having their best PLAYER out. HJ is a solid team and will make noise in the playoffs. Silsbee will not lose another game this year. The 6'7 and 6'9 kinda has me worried, but SIlsbee should still be fine. If Bush is on, I do not think Silsbee can lose. If he is off, it is possible for them to lose to a really good 4a team. IMO Bush might be the best shooter I have ever seen in SETX. I did not see any HS ball before 2006.

I don’t think anyone on here is going to speak ill of Joubert’s efforts. But we’d all be fooling ourselves if we sat here an said that Kountze is a good job. Especially if the AD title is not attached.
I did not say it was a good job. I didn't say it was a bad one either. Honestly I can not discuss that, but I will defend Joubert for sure. Because I know his character and what he is about and his coaching ability.

You and I can both agree that Joubert was the best person for football. However, if you try and tell me that he or anyone else can successfully devote the time/energy required to do Head Football AND Head Basketball in the same season then we will have to agree to disagree. Just like I don't think it's possible to do Head Basketball and Head Baseball in the same season. It is very possible and even likely to stretch yourself too thin. Eventually, a choice has to be made which one to give max effort to or a choice has to be made to split your effort between the two.
Just one small example.. when he was doing Head Basketball only do you really think he cared if his kids decided not to play football and to go in the gym every day after school? So what do you do when you take over football? Convince them they need to play football and help the football team even though it may hurt the basketball team?.. See what I mean?
I get that point for sure. I really do. But I have witnessed this man give everything he has in both sports for the last 4 years. He never cuts practice short, he never takes it easy on anyone, he never EVER misses a day no matter what. I have no idea how he does it, but he does. This is going to help him personally but it is not going to be good for the program unfortunately. You will not find anyone that will out work him and care about the kids the way he does. I know this for a fact.

Not trying to sound mean, but there's a reason that nobody tries to coach football and basketball.
At the end of the day, programs (and schools) are judged on wins/losses. In this era, kids are ready to "take their talents" elsewhere if they believe that their home school is going to lose. Winning will win out over "cares about the kids" every day of the week... not just among the people who make personnel decisions, but also among student athletes.
I'd like to see Kountze pick up a strong HC, but they'll honestly have to find an unknown up-and-comer and hope to hang onto him for a few years. Decent football coaches aren't interested in schools where the basketball coach is holding down the AD title, unfortunately.
I'd sure like to see Kountze have some success, though.
I understand. Sometimes people just do not know what they are talking about. Not saying that about you at all. I always laugh when people on here and in Kountze say that Joubert only cares and knows about basketball. People fail to realize that football was his sport. He played college football and still holds records at the College he played at. He works his tail off in both sports. You have to have the talent. I think people can look at the basketball season right now and understand that coaching is not the problem in Kountze right now.

About the experiment running it's course. Everyone has their opinion though, so I won't argue

It would be really hard to keep a talented kid enrolled in Kountze and staring at a losing season/career when he/she can cross the creek and play at Silsbee and have decent chance of making the post-season.
There is talent there, it just hasn't been developed or it left town. I hope they can make a good hire.
Kountze had two Stud RB's for this season that would have gave the district (Outside of Newton) fits... One moved to Silsbee and is one of the better RB's there as a sophomore. The other one snapped his leg and tore all kind of stuff up and didn't play the rest of the year. Best lineman got a concussion at the end of last year and never made it back. SIlsbee's "Jet Sweep" kid moved from Kountze also. 6'6 270 freshman moved last year and a 6'2 300 left last year also. The "talent" is being developed. It is going to be hard to find someone that coaches football as hard as Joubert and that cares about the kids as much as him.

I have no doubt that freshmen won't succeed on varsity. Is .500 the norm for Kountz JH teams?.. because that doesn't seem like the kind of success that'll carry over even when they become upper classmen.
You are correct!

You do know that the Grandview/Malakoff game is a rematch from earlier this season. Grandview won 28-7.
I think Newton wins by 13.
Yes sir. Malakoff has two RB's back that did not play against them. But who knows. I have been wrong a lot of times lol
Will Silsbee have a chance at state next year?

Impossible for this to ever be determined lol but Bush, Harrison, and Hefner are the 3 best players in the area. Hefner has the most potential to go the farthest because of his height and skill set and I think that everyone understand that. Bush is the dog of the group that has the killer instinct and can shoot from anywhere. We all know the only thing that is holding him back from going big time D1 is his height. Harrison is so smooth and really gets his teammates involved. Very very good PG
