1. If Orangefield stays within 30pts I'll be surprised...I'm sure they play hard but they just don't have the speed and athleticism to keep up with Coldspring...The only way it's close is if Coldpsring takes them lightly (which they won't because Def Cord. Morrison won't let that happen against his old school) and/or makes alot of mistakes/turnovers....Don't see either scenario happening...Coldspring in a rout...
 2.
Liberty is looking like a favorite for District Champs.
really? ok...lol
 3.
Anyone that knows Coach Alvarez knows He will gamble a little, on fourth down and half an acre, going for two for the win..Iv'e seen it all from Him....But when the final bell rings most of the time you will have more in the win column, than you do in the lost... ;)
That's what I've heard about him....Actually, I was just talking to one of the asst coaches (Coldspring) a couple of days ago about the 2nd Kirbyville game (last years 3rd round game playoff game)...We were talking about a few big plays that changed the course of the game and one of the most surprising moments came when Alvarez chose to kick the ball back to Coldspring on 4th down late in the game (from inside Coldspring territory)....Coaching staff was yelling at each other on the headsets to watch for the fake (no way they're really punting from here on the field, etc) and then were absolutely stunned when they really punted...I think Coldspring ended up scoring on the ensuing drive and the rest is history...
 4.
As if Gilbert has never been keyed on?  CS has more than one way to get the ball to Gilbert.  And in an open field, watch out.  His speed is on a whole other plane.
And they also have other really good backs....Gilbert is really, really good but Coldspring isn't just Gilbert...
 5. Wow....The bad thing is that I doubt many are surprised...Looks like this might be the 2nd year in a row that they're not even competitive....Might be hard for them to find a win this year...Mr. Jones is getting paid alot of money (heard about 85K)....Wonder how long even a school like Shepherd keeps him around if he has another year or two like last year....
 6. Was somewhat surprised the score was so lopsided...Thought it might not be close but didn't see a 40pt win...The strange thing is that the score could've been much worse....Kirbyville had negative yardage until they scored on the TD pass...Still not sure if they finished with positive yards or not....They probably did with that one drive...They've got some work ahead of them to get back to where they were the last few years... Good luck to Kirbyville the rest of the season...
 7. After watching last years Kirbyville squad play Coldspring twice I've got alot of respect for Kirbyville...Kirbyville was easily the second best team Coldspring played last year... I know they're probably a much different team from last year starting with the head coach, however, I expect Kirbyville to still come out swinging (especially since they're playing at home against the team who put them out of playoffs last year).... I think Coldspring should have the upper hand due to continuity of coaching staff as well as some of their best players returning....I'm interested to see how Coldspring's new oline performs and how the running game (without Cummings) looks with a couple new backs joining Gilbert...
 8. Nice work...Very interesting to see where some teams could fall classification wise...
 9.
coldspings o-line got good size but they was holding every play but with time thr will make the playoffs thats gonna be a challenge for the young line
Oline will be a challenge this year just from the fact that the entire line will be new starters from last year, however, Oline will probably look better when they're allowed to scrimmage/play the way they're used to...Jasper told Coldspring coaches when they arrived (at scrimmage) that they didn't want the Coldspring lineman cutting their defensive players (or there wouldn't be a scrimmage)....Hard to change up what you're taught to do (especially when you're young and lack experience).... Oline will get a better chance to show what they can do against Newton this friday as I doubt there will be any pre-scrimmage demands made by Newtons staff... On a different note I'd be surprised if Morgan doesn't have Jasper playing at a high level within the next year or two...Carthage is running on auto-pilot and I'm sure he had plenty to do with it and will try to implement many of the same things that worked there....He looks like a really good hire...
 10.
shepherd did not get one first down the entire scrimmage.
OUCH, looks like another long year for Shepherd...
 11.
I'm suprized he isn't wearing his Sooner shirt.
Sounds like a longhorn fan to me ;)...Mack should've had him come fire up the troops before a couple of last years home games...
 12. Should be a very interesting year (especially early on) with what should be a very tough game to start the season at Kirbyville....The offense could be as good as last year but alot of stuff would have to go right for that to happen....Entire brand new Oline will have to play up to the level of last years group (which could happen but is still alot to ask, especially early on).... QB position should be better with Scott having a year of experience....Running game should still be very good with Gilbert returning....Monroe (who played primarily SS last year) should be the other starting RB with Tre Cooper also getting carries along with possibly sophomores Giddens & Johnson....Would expect Gilbert and Monroe to get most of the carries....Monroe will surprise those who haven't watched him run the ball before...The coaches know what they have and Barbay himself indicated as much when stating about a week ago or so that this years RB's (as crazy as it sounds) might be better than last years....The speed and ability is there...It's just a question of how quickly the new line can gell and play at the varsity level while wearing the bullseye that comes with being last years state finalist... Defensively, Coldspring's speed/athleticism & Coach Morrison's scheme should enable them to be a formidable group again this year....I think Traylor (DL) and Kelley (FS) will be missed the most....Traylor was hard to block and disruptive and Kelley was a hard hitter from the FS position and had the speed to run down coverage busts and anything else in the secondary....He was also the one who was making the calls and getting everyone lined up correctly in the secondary... Harrison, Andries, Monroe, Cooper & Sykes should once again be the leaders on D....Harrison and Monroe were 1 and 2 respectively last year in tackles....Sykes lead the team in interceptions with 9 or 10 and Andries is just a really, really good player who makes plays and is tough...Cooper was great last year and played much bigger than his size would suggest... Depth will be something to watch as several key players will be required to play most of the snaps on both sides of the ball....Last years squad had a fresh 11 for both sides...This years team will not be afforded the same luxury.. It should be a exciting year...Can't wait for it to get started...
 13.
Kats are doing pushups as we post.. ;D....ready to get this show started!! :-*
Trojans are doing pushups and situps...lol. :)...Kickoff is getting closer and closer...Game #1 of the season should be a good one!
 14. Like it or not (right now) the district is Coldspring and Huffman's with the rest fighting for 3rd place UNTIL someone else proves differently....Coldspring and Huffman both have 3 things that should help keep them on top....Continuity in terms of coaching staff, an identity/system, and talent.... Cleveland has the talent to compete year in and year out but the new coaching staff has to show that it can coach and motivate it....IMO, letting Tullos go was a huge mistake that they may not recover from for several years...We'll see what happens...Last year was a disaster... Things may be looking up for Liberty in terms of talent but until they prove they can be competitive with the top 2 (Coldspring and Huffman) projecting them to contend for one of the top two spots is pure speculation...
 15. Haven't seen BC play this year, however, I did see them play last year in the playoffs and came away impressed... Just finished watching both games of the Giddings/Coldspring series and I didn't see anything about Giddings that was overly impressive other than Marlow.....If you can make your pitches against him (which will be tough because he can absolutely hit) or keep traffic off of the bases before he comes up I don't think they'll score alot of runs.... Marlow bats leadoff (I guess in order to give him as many AB's per game as possible...Couldn't think of any other reason because I didn't see any other Giddings player with close to his power or hitting ability) so it's possible to limit his rbi opportunities by simply taking care of the bottom of their lineup... Pitching wise they didn't seem overly dominate but they did only give up 4 runs over two games (although Coldspring wouldn't be considered a good hitting team)... I'm sure Giddings is a very good team....I know they were last year....Maybe they were just a little rusty from the first round bye... Should be a good series....
 16.
Giddings takes Game 1, 9-3, according to the Statesman.
That is correct...Brooks Marlow is/was as advertised...1 HR, mutiple hits and rbi's... Game 2 Saturday at 10am with Game 3 (If necessary) 30 mins following first game...
 17. The Subway gig didn't last but a few weeks....He's around Coldspring with his wife and little boy (who's probably 2+ yrs old)....He's married to San Jacinto County Judge Faulkner's daughter... He was a really good athlete....It's a shame he wasn't able to make it to Tech because I think he could've contributed...He ran and moved really well for a big guy...Probably would've made a good linebacker or even possibly DE (if he put on the extra weight)....
 18.
I really have no problem with it.  I hope the next development allows home-schooled kids the opportunity to play in the public school district they live in.  That is really the only draw back to home-schooling, and many other states currently allow it.
Fairly sure Tim Tebow took advantage of that rule while being home-schooled in Florida...
 19.
Coldspring must have gotten ALOT better!
They were able to take advantage of some shaky D (several Hamshire errors) and too many walks with very timely hitting...Coldspring hit 3 HR's to go along with several other big hits with runners on....
 20. This problem wasn't created in just the last 2 1/2 years....To pretend that either side is solely responsible for the predicament that we're in is to be absurd...Take off your glasses of choice (whether they be red or blue) and try to see the problem for what it is...It's a systematic failure of epic proportions...Both sides are to blame..They take turns screwing the average citizen...They continue to blow tax payer money on some of the stupidiest crap with nary a concern for the well being of others and the future generations... It's very frustrating to watch...
 21.

I agree, but I have to admit that Huffman is losing alot of its key players for next season. QB and main receivers are graduating- so are the main defensive forces. They will be still be strong, but its gonna take work to adapt to a whole new passing offense.
yall's freshman running back will be good, what about yall's o-line, didn't yall have a lot of seniors of this past year at that spot?
No team is losing more on the line (in terms of seniors than Coldspring)....They're replacing the entire line due to graduation....If (and of course it's anyone's guess until they get thrown into the fire on the varsity level) the new line can hold it's own the offense should continue to score a bunch of points... The defense is also going to have to replace several good players....I think def lineman Traylor will probably be missed the most on defense...The Trojans should have the athletes to plug into most of the spots...I think it'll just be a matter of how soon they get comfortable playing at the varsity level...One thing that should help quite a bit is practicing against good players last year and experiencing this years run to the state title game..
