1.
I don't understand this post ,even being posted ...what's the reason for it...Other than to instigate..Why compare Kirbyville to Wimberley or any other team Coldspring will play..Kirbyville Lost,Let It Go.... ??? I hope a MODERATOR removes it...
I look at it as a attempt to give props to Kirbyville as being one of the best teams in the state (whether they're sitting at home right now or not)....I have no doubt that Kirbyville was the best team Coldspring has played thus far in the playoffs this year...For example, the fact that Athens made it to the 4th round and Kirbyville didn't doesn't make Athens the better team... I think the poster is just trying to figure out if Wimberley is better than Kirbyville personell wise (and thus come up with a prediction based on the info)...That's what I got out of it anyway...
 2.
keep doubting Brownwood. Bet they're reading everything on here.  ;)
It's not about doubting Brownwood...I'm fairly sure everyone realizes that they're a very good team capable of winning it all...For me it's about giving a team like Carthage the respect that they've earned by winning the last 2 state championships and not counting out the other 2 teams who  still have a say.... All the Brownwood posturing and love reminds me of the uber excitement and supposed invinceability of the New England Patriots from a couple of years ago...Everyone remembers how that turned out, right?  Stuff happens...That's why they play the games... As far as Brownwood reading everything on here, the same could be said of the remaining 3 teams who everyone is giving little to no chance of being able to stay on the field with Brownwood... If Brownwood ends up proving it on the field and winning it all then good for them, however, I'm not ready to concede anything to them until then....I'm sure there are plenty of other fans who feel the same... The great part is we don't have to wait long to find out....Should be an exciting next week and a half...
 3.
CS will end their season 15-1. And hope they get more respect in the state rankings next year.
That'd be sweet!
 4.
Smith is the best HS RB I've ever seen, and I'm not young. Even rusty, he adds a lot into the equation.
He's either an all time great or someone hasn't seen alot of top level high school running backs...I'm leaning towards the latter...Not saying he's not a difference maker but the best you've ever seen?  That's saying alot.....
 5. Yes it was good to see the place packed...The atmosphere was electric...Hoping to see the same this Friday...
 6.

upsetting Brownwood !!!!!!! :D ;D
UPsetting Carthage...!!!! ;)
Very possible...I'm sure not one of those who subscribe to the theory that Brownwood is unbeatable...They might win it all but they've got to beat the reigning champs first before they even get to play for the title... I know they're really good, however, I think way too many people are dismissing Carthage... Carthage hasn't won 2 state titles in a row by not knowing how to come up big and take care of business when they need to....
 7.
I dont know if anybody can stop Cummings and Gilbert... Im just sayin!!!
Anyone can be stopped, however, it hasn't happened yet....I think Huffman did the best job of stuffing the run and limiting big plays... But after they pulled within 2 pts (late in the game) they went and inexplicably kicked the ball directly to Gilbert (on the kickoff) and he took it up the middle virtually untouched for a TD that put the game away... Kirbyville played well against the run until they wore down in the second half... Cummings and Gilbert will be hard to slow down....If Coldspring continues to play good D they're going to be a tough out regardless of who they play...
 8. You can take the returning players from Coldspring that made 1st or 2nd team All District last year and probably assume that most of them will show up again (somewhere) on the all district list again this year....Coldspring also has a few sophs who have stepped up and played well (Cooper, Sykes, & Scott) who will get consideration....Cummings (who moved back) is a shoe in and possible offensive MVP.... Coldspring should be really well represented this year and justifiably so...Probably going to be mostly Coldspring, Huffman, and few sprinkled in from remaining teams... Just a side note....Was just looking at an article about Athens and they just had 23 players named to the All District team for this year...Not saying Coldspring will have that many but it could happen after the type of regular season Coldspring just had...I think Coldspring had 15+ on last years team(s)....
 9.
I think they should have personaly played this one in College Station at Kyle Field
I was thinking the same about a week ago when it looked like Coldspring and Wimberly were on a collision course...
 10.
You might be able to listen to it right here on SETXsports.com as we are attempting to get that simulcast here.  If not, the game should be on Eagle 92.3's website, [Hidden Content].
Ok thanks....I was thinking that it might be available on their website but I wasn't able to get in touch with anyone there to confirm it yet...
 11. Where and why would Alvarez possibly move on?  Just curious...
 12. Anyone know if the game is going to be available (again this week) online?....Have family out of state who can't make it this weekend and would like to listen....
 13. Wow...#1 Ford got knocked on his backside by #8 (pics 6-8 on page 1 of game photos)  Good pics!
 14. Don't really know anything about Athens (other than they're supposedly having either their best year ever or one of the best ever)....Going to have to do a little research on them and see what I can find out... My attitude concerning Athens is that they didn't get 4 rounds deep by not being a really good team...They've got to be doing something right... Anyone seen them play this year or have additional info concerning best players, etc?
 15. First I'll just say that one or two fans on a sports forum doesn't speak for or represent an entire fan base...I've seen a few crazy things said on both sides... As far as dirty plays and cheap shots go, they're part of the game...It happens...It's always went on and will continue to...It's a very violent and emotional game and it's not uncommon for a players emotions to get the best of them from time to time...It happens at all levels...Usually the player(s) that can harness those emotions the best (including not retaliating outside the normal scope of play) has the best chance of coming out on top and not getting potentially game changing penalties called against them... I doubt either coaching staff condones dirty play, however, that doesn't mean that there isn't a player or two that isn't going to try doing something a little extra if they think no ones looking, can get away with it, or just lose their mind for a second... Kirbyville fans I like your passion and your ability to come on here and give props when due...Hopefully, we can make your only loss look even better by going all the way...
 16.
I dont see any Kirbyville posters being sore losers! Why be a sore winner?  Ill agree Gilbert played well and was the difference, as far as Kirbyville being highly over rated because they havent played anyone? lol come on,  dont follow up a good statment with a stupid one!  I promise you Kville fans will be supporting you next week.  We hope for yall to have a good run and take it all the way.  Good Game Trojans!!!
I agree...You guys have taken the loss with class...I've enjoyed reading the site this week...Thanks for the kudos and support...
 17.
Thoughts?  ;) ;)
Now that we have a definitive answer to who was going to do what to whom, what are your thoughts post game?  Just curious to hear from someone who had absolutely no doubt that Kirbyville was going to win going away....
 18.
I thought CS would win by 10 but 7 is close. people get so caught up into their hometown team destroying team after team and fail to realize its very hard to beat a team two times in a season. And i dont wanna hear nor read about kville may have been over-looking CS either.  ;)
True...After watching the first game this year I just really felt like Coldspring could beat Kirbyville if they met them again in the playoffs...I think the first game might've given some Kirbyville fans a false sense of security...It is hard to beat a good team twice and even harder to beat a good team when it gets to play with its best offensive player the second time around...
 19. I tried to tell everyone on the other thread that #1 would be a difference maker....He's too good to keep contained all game long...All he needs is a crease and he's gone... My prediction was a 35-21 Coldspring win...We could have easily had 35-45 points...The last TD (that was called back) as well as the carry that Gilbert had inside the 10 in the first half (where he lost his footing & slipped) would've put us at 39 pending extra point(s)....Also had the ball inside redzone another time and came away with nothing (hats off to Kirbyville for buckling down and playing tough D)... Outside of a couple of secondary busts Kirbyville really wasn't able to get much going offensively....I thought going into the game that Kirbyville would probably score 2-3 times but ultimately would have a very difficult time containing Gilbert.... Congrats Kirbyville on a great season and return to 3A..... Coldspring Trojans keep on rolling and proving all the doubters wrong!!
 20. Time to put up or shut up!!!  Bus pulled out from school about 30 mins ago...Excited to see what happens tonight...Heading out now...Safe travels to all (to and from game).... Go Trojans!!!
 21.

Wow. Leroy Dobbins. I haven't heard that name is years. I got a story for yall. Back in the day when my friend was playing in a tournament up in Humble when this years seniors and juniors were just about 10 and 11, the kids in Vidor now went up to houston to try and see what we could do and we got schooled and Leroy Dobbins was the main reason we never went back lol. He was legit even as a kid. Made my friend realize a lot lol. I never thought i would hear that kids name again but to see this it makes me feel better lol. Well i voted for him. Best of luck to him. What team does he play for again?
He's a Montgomery Bear.
He's a bear now but he played at least his last 2 years of youth football at SCFL (South Montgomery County Football League) out of The Woodlands...It was common for SCFL to go to Houston or other surrounding areas and play end of season all star tourneys...This is probably where the poster ran into him...We had some really, really good players in that league around that time...(as I'm sure they still do since they have such large numbers)....One of my sons played against him in that league and he was as previously mentioned "legit as a kid"....He was a man amongst boys as a 11-12 year old...He was very hard to bring down, lightning quick, and as good as gone if he got to the corner....I'm not sure exactly when he moved to Montgomery but I'm fairly sure he didn't move until 8th grade at the earliest...Might've even been later.. It's good to see him having continued success...He always was a really good kid...Very humble and unassuming...
 22.
LMAO!!!  ;D ;D ;D Wait til u look stupid friday.. Coldspring will get put in it's place. 'jus sayin'
So if I'm wrong about the score and/or winning team I'll look stupid?  That in and of itself is laughable...It's a simple prediction based on watching both teams play each other in week zero and watching each and every one of Coldsprings games since then....It could go either way...I never said Kirbyville wasn't able to beat Coldspring...I simply stated I thought Coldspring would win this time around...At least I gave some reasons as to why...What is your assumption of victory based on other than pure hubris?
 23. The first meeting was a very close ballgame...It was tied at 6 at halftime and if I remember correctly it was a 1 score game until midway or so into the 4th qtr...It wasn't a dominant performance by Kirbyville that I get the sense that most are acting like it was...I'm sure the Kirbyville coaches know what they're up against and are probably far more concerned than most Kirbyville fans on this board are... Coldspring has been opening up the passing game more the last few games and I was happy to see it because you can't just run it at good defenses (come playoff time) down after down without some type of passing game....Is it as good as I'd like it to be?  No, but it has produced some big plays over the last couple of weeks.... Both teams know each other well and it'll just come down to the same thing that all games do....execution or the lack thereof....I think Coldspring will be much more explosive this time around and unless Kirbyville has got alot better or developed another big time threat other than Ford it will be a win for Coldspring... I'm thinking it'll be a 10-14 pt win for Coldspring....I'm thinking something in the 35-21 range...
 24. Interesting first 16 pages....Obviously, Kirbyville is a good team...I was at the first meeting this year between Coldspring and Kirbyville and I didn't leave the game with the feeling that Kirbyville was head and shoulders above Coldspring as many on this thread seem to think...I can't speak on how Kirbyville is different or better from the first meeting this year, however, I can speak to a few things that have certainly changed for Coldspring since the opening week loss to Kirbyville.... A couple of key players were noticebly absent for the first 3-4 games of the year for Coldspring....Running back Sherman Gilbert (who will be the fastest player on the field come this friday) and linebacker Evan Freed (very fundamentally sound and not prone to mistakes) did not play due to injuries... Having a healthy Gilbert brings a whole new dimension to the Coldspring offense...He's a serious threat from the running back and/or receiver position to take it the distance on any play....That homerun ability puts added stress on a defense to not make mistakes as one missed assignment or tackle can result in a TD instead of 10-15 yard gain... Linebacker play in the first game wasn't anything to write home about...Freed does a much better job of fitting his gaps and playing tough, assignment football....He might not be flashy but he's usually in the right spot and making a tackle when he's supposed to... Another aspect that has been mentioned is the QB postition....Coldspring was breaking in a new sophomore QB....Needless to say he's a much more relaxed and confident player than he was in week 0....I actually came away from the first game against Kirbyville wondering if we would have the type of QB play that we'd come accustomed to during the last 3 years with Chad Allen (who's now playing at Lamar as a true freshmen)...Several poeple who had seen both kids grow up playing ball told me that Scott would be ok and even possibly better than Allen...I initially found that hard to believe but he's certainly grown into the postion as the season has wore on...
