1. IMO, the score through the first quarter had more to do with Coldspring playing sloppy than it did with Cleveland playing that well...Cleveland was given a gift with the misplayed kickoff that they recovered and was able to do absolutely nothing with it...They also were given another good opportunity on a roughing the kicker penalty... The bottom line is that they didn't do any better of a job against Coldspring than any other team really has this year unless you consider only being down 37 at half better than the 53 that Splendora was or any of the other lopsided half time scores from this year....If they had've only been down 10-14pts at halftime then I could see the whole "played them tough" argument but they were down 5 td's at half... Gilbert probably had over 250 yds on 12 or so carries for the game and 5td's...That's not good...I know some might be looking for a silver lining but I just don't see it...You can't say you played tough or well when you give up 61 pts and get shut out in a game that everyone agrees your jacked up for and can't wait to play... Doesn't mean Cleveland won't improve this year or next but let's be real about what happened last night...
 2.
The Trojans have had 51 points scored against them, but only had 6 scored in the first half. The remaining points were scored after the first defensive unit had left the field, all in the 2nd half. None of their games have been close, Crockett and Hempstead moved the ball against their 2nd unit but had -0- against their 1st unit. Barbay thinks that the defense is his teams stronge point and I am going to agree. Remember they have two (not one but two) All State defensive players returned from their 14-2 State finalist team. Just think if Sherman Gilbert played a full 4 quarter each game, to make a compairson he has 1079 yards and 21 touchdowns compared to Clevelands Tyrell Franks 1025 Yards and 12 touchdowns in 147 carries. Right behind Franks is another Trojan Colton Monroe with 801 yards and 12 touchdowns on 70 carries. That is a duo that Cleveland has to deal with tonight. I have heard that Monroe sprain an ankle last week.
Yes he turned an ankle right before the first game against Kirbyville and then against Splendora had a defensive player land on the same ankle on his first carry of the game...Hopefully he'll heal up good over the next 2 weeks and be full strength the rest of the way out starting with Huffman...He's a totally different back when healthy...With both Gilbert and Monroe full strength Coldspring's running game is almost impossible to stop...
 3.
Salt and Pepper on the crow, Coldsprings was the better team. would have like to see the attitudes stay in check, but I can't control that. Our offence just couldn't take the attack, i did see some good things from our defence, not bad for 8 sophmores. I could have done without the timeout with 4 seconds at half, we were on our heels and why so many onside kicks, yall had the game. Good luck to CS going forward.
I don't think the onside kick was intentional...There was a new guy kicking off after #75 Dunham was injured...I don't think he kicked off after that one...Another player (Soph) Douglas "tootie" Johnson handled the rest of the kickoffs after that one...The others were pooch kicks which Coldspring does quite often...
 4. If I may quote Denny Green...."They were who we thought they were"....I didn't think Cleveland had the talent or coaching scheme to keep the game respectable and it turns out they didn't...I'm sure they'll get things turned around but right now they're simply no match for Coldspring.... The only thing I didn't like about tonights game was the late hit/cheap shot on Coldspring's #75 Greg Dunham (on a extra point kick)...Hopefully it doesn't end his season as he is a very good player and was almost automatic kicking extra points...Cleveland you're better than that...You've got to take your whoopin's with a little class...No need for all the extra curricular stuff that was going on...
 5. Will be absolutely shocked if Cleveland keeps the score within 3 td's....This isn't Cleveland pre-2010 when they had really good coaching and talent....I don't think the coaching or talent level is where it's been prior years... It will be a long night for Cleveland...They are going to get hammered similar to how they were last year at their house... Hope everyone is safe going and coming and that fans from both sides act right...
 6.
great job......what grade is he in?
Gilbert and Monroe are both seniors....
 7.
CS passing game still don't look to be any good. Just  need to work overtime against the run.
Good luck with that!
 8.
I can say if I was Barbay i would make a name for my players and my team by keeping up with records that have not been broke in a long time and go after them
Gilbert & Monroe could have both easily broken the school record for most rushing yards in a game (and set who knows what else) if Barbay was so inclined...Both have went over 200 yds (in a game this year) on just 10 or so carries.... They have been averaging about 12 & 10 carries respectively a game... I like seeing kids break and set records also, however, with Barbay being from the coaching family that he is it looks as if he's only concerned with winning a gold ball....If records fall in the process so be it but I really haven't seen a situation where he's let anyone just go after one...
 9.
Kinda class-less for a coach to beat a team this bad, save it for the play-offs. No need to beat these kids into the ground. IMO
It's usually best not to comment on things that you don't have idea what you're talking about....Coldspring was up huge in the 1st half solely because Splendora was really bad...Gilbert probably only had 6-7 carries (which has happened a couple times already this year) Monroe (turned a ankle on his first carry and only had 5-6 more touches after retaping and hobbling around)....Coldspring scored a TD on a fumble return by linebacker Kedrick Harrison and another on a punt return by Johnson (after he had a punt return for a TD called back a few minutes earlier)....Coldspring did anything but run up the score...They stopped putting anyone back deep to return punts with about 3-4 minutes left in the 2nd qtr because it was apparent that if they didn't they might score again.... Barbay simply DOES NOT run up the score...If he was so inclined he could've easily scored well into the 80's several times this year but he never has...D-lineman & o-lineman have gotten carries this year late in games instead of letting a true RB carry the ball again...The last several games the clock has basically ran the entire 2nd half with it only stopping for change of direction at end of 3rd qtr... What would you have Barbay do?  Not let his starters play but a series or two each game until the playoffs?  If anyone is getting short changed it's probably Coldspring's starters who could really use a good test or two (and have to play close to a full game under pressure) before the playoffs start... I know some of these other schools might be struggling but what ever happened to having a little pride and not rolling over after a few scores?  Are these teams really this bad this year, are they mailing it in early, or is Coldspring really just that dominant this year?  I don't know the answer but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not a little bit of all three...
 10.
I can say I have only missed one game in 5 years with huffman and Townley in the short time he has been with Huffman is better than Deberry was and he had played the same system since 7th Grade. It is going to be a great game and nice to see CS fans support their team 100% oh wait if they did support them 100% they would bull dose that Stadium and give them a real place to play...so we will say you support them 90%... just saying
I'm assuming the reason you edited your post is because you quickly realized how ignorant it was....There is simply no comparison between the demographics of COCISD and that of Huffman's... Keep enjoying your new stadium/complex (because it is really nice) and Coldspring players and fans will continue to make due with what they have and keep the focus on the play on the field and not the playing field itself...BTW, the players and fans have really enjoyed playing early round playoff games at Huffman...
 11.
He has been to state twice and made third run at it and now his senior year he is the captain of a team that is down. He still has a positive attitude and gives it his all. Kirbyville is proud of you Will.
Kudos to him for continuing to play hard and keeping a positive attitude...It has to be a very difficult year after experiencing all of the success of the last few.... He'll be a better player and person for dealing with this situation the correct way....Anyone can play hard and have a good attitude when things are going good...It takes a special person to do so when things aren't going their way....Success lies ahead for those who can do the latter...
 12. Congrats to Coldspring senior RB Colton Monroe who set a school record and tied a state & national record with a 99 yard td run against Shepherd..(He also received a couple of very good blocks along the way from Sherman Gilbert).... Monroe also had a kickoff return for a TD of about 70 yds on the second half kickoff...His previous long TD run this year was a 80 yarder against Madisonville.... Coldspring's duo of Gilbert and Monroe are putting up some big numbers and look to be one of SETX best backfields.... Congrats to both and keep running all the way to Arlington!
 13.
Must I remind you the game last year with Cold Springs was tight and should have been won by Huffman AND what was the score last year against Silsbee?
You'll have to remind us how Huffman should've beat Coldspring last year...Huffman never led and I believe the closest they ever got was 2 points within the last 4 mins or so of the game...Huffman scored late to pull within 2 and then subsequently kicked the ball directly to Sherman Gilbert who returned it about 70 yds for the game clinching TD.... Outside of Kirbyville, I think Huffman was the 2nd best team Coldspring played last year in the regular season (and also better than probably 3 of the teams Coldspring beat in the playoffs) but to say they should've beat Coldspring is a bit of revisionist history at best...
 14.
Coldspring by 6 only because we struggle with the extra point.
Extra points aren't a problem this year unless they're letting someone other than #75 Dunham kick them...Years past extra points (when not going for 2) have been somewhat of an adventure but it doesn't look to be that way this year... There'd be lots of places I'd look for mismatches before I'd be worried about the extra point...
 15. Heard from someone that should know that Bob Jones at Shepherd was making 85K...Sounded really high to me but they seemed sure about the figure... Also heard Barbay at Coldspring is in the 60's but I don't know it to be the case for sure, however, it wouldn't surprise me since pretty much everyone at COCISD seems to be underpaid all the way up to the superintendent, who a few months ago declined a scheduled raise from the school board, and makes about 20K less a year than fellow 3A superintendents with similar school numbers student body wise... Not every coach is worried about how much they make but on the same hand I'm sure they like to feel appreciated and rewarded for a job well done and usually the best way to show them is to stay out of their way (when warranted) and compensate them well...
 16. Not sure because I haven't had the opportunity to see much of the Lions except for highlights here and there the last couple of years but I do know our little league teams have more than held their own against them the last few years..... And as luck would have it Coldspring (5-6, 7-8, 9-10, & 11-12 yr old divisions) will be playing Livingston @ Coldspring highschool this Saturday starting at 12:30pm....I'm going to say the group of 5-6 yr olds will continue beating Livingston just like we have recently... ;) Last year I think they had 30+ kids to our 15 and we still handled them (twice) fairly easily.... They'll probably be the best team we play this year so I'm interested to see how this years games go....They have some really good players but our team speed has been the difference the last few times we played.... The games are always very good across the board...Livingston always seems to have really good turnout when they come to Coldspring...Anyone in the area who isn't busy ought to come out and support youth football!
 17.
Why in the world did y'all pick this game to air?  Everyone knew it would be lop-sided, Tarkington included.  :-\
Because interest in Coldspring football is currently at a all-time high and sponsors are willing to pony up money to broadcast the games....
 18. Same old Liberty....Looks like they're not quite ready for primetime yet...
 19. Question for Wildcat fans....How much of the programs difficulties are due to losing  Alvarez (Vanya and his boys) and how much is due to losing some really good players to graduation?  Realistically, where you due for a down season anyway and the coaching change just made things worse? Just wondering because from the outside looking in I didn't expect Kville to be as good as last year but I also didn't expect to see what's happened so far...
 20.
CS doesn't go back to state in 2011 and can't beat Dayton period.
So you're taking the field (in 3A instead of Coldspring) to make it to the state championship game?....That's not hard to do...I'm sure you could take the field against most teams in each classification (with the exception of maybe Lake Travis) and come out on the right side of that argument....Don't pat yourself on the back if some how your "great prediction" turns out to be true...Alot of stuff has to go right to win 5 games in a row against increasingly better competition...There's been lots of great teams fall short for one reason or another... There's only a handful of teams (in 3A DII) that realistically have a good chance of winning 5 games in a row in the playoffs... As of right now today Coldspring is definitely in that group of teams.... As far as the Dayton argument goes, who really knows?  There are decent arguments for and against so unless they were to play it's nothing but speculation...I'd give Dayton the upperhand just from a numbers & size standpoint but games are decided on the field and Coldspring and Dayton aren't playing each other there anytime soon...
 21.
I never said they didn't show anything, they showed they they were as good as everyone thought they were. That is why they started of the season in the top 10. I said they did what was expected regardless of the score. A win is a win whether it is by 60 or by 1 it all counts the same.
A win is a win, however, the score is important in that it tells how the win or loss was accomplished...If team loses by a point it can be deducted that outcome could have been different given any number of circumstances....That usually isn't going to be the case in a 60 point loss...A blowout points to the fact that a team was unable to compete for a variety of different reasons....Big difference between competing and having a chance to win and having little no chance no matter what happens... Crockett had given Coldspring everything they wanted and more the last 2 years...While a Coldspring win might have been expected by some no one anticipated the total beatdown that was administered a couple weeks ago...
 22. Until Liberty proves it can compete with the best teams in their district year in and year out I'm going to go with Huffman...Not saying Liberty can't or won't beat Huffman...Just saying they need to show me... ;)
 23.
Dayton would destroy Coldspring and they are in the area and they are 4A so yes there are local 4A teams that can compete.
Destroy? How so? Pure speculation at best....BTW, there is alot of difference between competing, winning a close game, and destroying a team...
 24. Congrats to all the teams ranked, however, rankings are more for fans to look at and discuss (and unlike college football) playoffs takes care of the rest on the field....
 25. I don't see how Kirbyville beats Bridge City...Menard and crew will be too much to handle for this years Kirbyville squad who is still struggling to put everything together... Bridge City by 3-4 TD's.... Hope Kirbyville gets things turned back around because they seem to have some really good passionate fans...
