STiger85 got a reaction from BADSANTA in Lumberton vs Silsbee scrimmage
Both offensive look good for a first scrimmage. Both defensive need work. As far as the two QB's from Silsbee, they split time with the first team in the first series. Thomas took the first five plays that resulted in a TD. Partain took the next seven plays. Both did a good job in moving the offense. I liked the Soph QB flow and timing. Both QB's making it hard for coaches to pick a starter. That's a good thing. I also like that tall QB from Lumberton, he has a nice touch.

For me it is the 80's as we had many teams win state championships during that decade:

    Football:  In the 80's, West Brook (5A in 1982), Beaumont French (5A co-champ in 1984), Burkeville (1986 in 1A), West Orange-Stark (1986 and 1987 in 4A), Corrigan-Camden (2A in 1988) and Groveton (2A in 1989) all won state football titles.  Port Arthur Jeffferson (1980 in 5A), Groveton (1983 and 1985 in 2A) and West Orange-Stark (4A in 1989) were state runner ups.

Baseball: During the 80's, Colmesneil had 3 1A (or B) championships (1980, 1985, 1986).  Thomas Jefferson won the 5A crown in 1983 and San Augustine took the 3A title in 1987.  West Sabine (2A in 1982), High Island (1A in 1987) and San Augustine (3A in 1990) all made appearances in the state championship games.

Boy's Basketball: Beaumont Hebert (4A in 1980 and 1981) won 2 titles during that decade.  Port Arthur Lincoln (5A in 1980, 1983, 1987, 1988 in 4A) won 5.  For those that include La Porte in our area, the took the 5A title in 1986.  Hardin-Jefferson (3A in 1983) made a state finals appearance.

Girl's Basketball: During that decade, Barbers Hill (1981, 1982) and Hardin-Jefferson (1985 and 1988 in 3A) each won 2 state titles.  Hardin-Jefferson (1987 in 3A) and Colmesneil (1980 in 1A) were state runner ups.

The 80's were a darn good decade for SETX sports.

I will say this, my oldest will be a Jr. my second son will be a freshman. Both have been playing since 7th grade. Previous years of off season have been, well to put it bluntly, OFF.

Now we got a taste of the Dubois off season training last year with Coach being the new hire but this year's off season HANDS DOWN has been a HUGE difference. In the years past I would bring my boys to off season workouts maybe see 8-10 guys (usually always the same ones) but this year the weight room is PACKED from freshmen to seniors girls and boys, each helping one another out assuring that "We Are All In".

The birds ought to be greatful they were moved into another district. They need to look forward to their bright future ahead of them. They should take 2nd place in that district. Quit dwelling on a game that you got beat in, they took Silsbee to the limit and they were still not good enough to get the victory.

    Interesting......

STiger85 got a reaction from BADSANTA in Silsbee vs College Station
I would have to say Silsbee has had the tougher strength of schedule, in the playoffs. Having faced a right handed pitcher hitting 102 mph and some wicked off speed junk, that is a potential first pick in the draft, and winning in one game. Facing the #4 ranked team and a left handed pitcher hitting 90 or so on the gun, a potential first round pick,  and winning in two games. Sending the #21 ranked team home in two games, Then winning two of three from the #9 ranked team. Yeah, I would say the Silsbee Tigers have been tried and tested in these playoffs, Now, I know for a fact we have seen better pitchers in the playoffs, and probably just as good a defenses. So, go ahead and throw that #1 ranking at us, and that twelve step baseball program, and that crap about a bigger area to get better players from. This is the Silsbee Tigers, we don't run from numbers, we just play ball. So what does all this get you at the end of the day, not a thing. You still gotta play the game to win, and we show up to play the game. Safe travels to all. Go Tigers!!!

STiger85 reacted to Periballo77 in Umpire chatter!!
Best I ever saw was a Home plate umpire tossing a kid for arguing strikes and balls. The ump wrung this kid up on an inside pitch (it was a strike, I had no dogs in the fight, just watching a good HS baseball game) and the kid took his bat and drew a line in the dirt where he thought the pitch was. He then yelled at the ump, "That's not a strike right here!". The ump calmly asked for his bat, drew a line in the dirt from the batters' box all the way to the dugout. He then drew an X in the dirt in front of the bench and leaned his bat on the bench, then told the kid, "You, right here, rest of the game". Everyone was silent in the moment, but it sure made for some laughs once the game resumed. Coach didn't argue and the kid was so stunned he just sat down and watched the rest of the game. Instant Classic!!

It is very difficult to read this thread without responding when it is quite obvious some are wearing their rose-colored glasses as they evaluate and shred the umpiring. Leave age out of this. Your plate umpire for the HF game last week is 24 but you won so nothing was said of his ability (or lack of). WOS earned a win last night and no other explanation is necessary. WOS was better than BC last night...PERIOD! However, let's see if I understand what I have read (If I am to believe the comments, in combination with the stats from this post)

POST: KOGT states the umpire is a "hitters" ump.
    REALITY: BC-2 hits, WOS 5!
POST: I've seen better umps in LL.
REALITY: Many of us TASO umpires are volunteer LL umpires and perform very well at high levels of both (thank you for noticing)
POST: Coaches can scratch umps followed by this guy will never call for BC and WOS.
REALITY: Umpires can scratch schools as well and many of us have scratched BC for the very reason you can read throughout this post.
REALITY: I called the BC/HF game last week (after having scratched BC) simply because no other umpires were available due to the high number of scratches and I was basically begged to take the game.
REALITY: The only other BC game I called this year was similar to last night: Livingston had more hits, pitcher threw well and BC made 4 or more errors. As a result, Livingston beat BC because they were the better team that day.

Winning is great. Losing is tough. Some times you play well, other times you just don't but to take away a solid performance by your opponent without acknowledging your teams poor performance AND then turn on the umpires is demeaning to your opponent(s) and....Well, you understand why the top umpires in the Chapter will exercise their right to scratch these type schools (irrational fans don't help either).

PS-I have called WOS 3 times this season and they are a solid team. Lack the pitching depth they'd like to have but 1-9 hits well and they play solid defense much like BC.

Best of luck to both teams in the playoffs as you represent SE TX and will do so very well!!

Okay, obviously A&M has a better class in 14 and 15. But has any school on Texas besides them had a better class? Texas has the best 2015 class in the Big 12 which hosts two of Texas' competitiors and Oklahoma, who recruits primarily out of Texas. Not to mention Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Kansas, who all recruit Texas very heavily. So other than Texas A&M I don't see where your "passed up" argument is valid at all. Yes, A&M has had more success recently. Wanna cookie? Texas is still the premier college football program in Texas. And whether an Aggie fan will admit it or not, they are the most popular university in Texas. Look at A&M's classes back from when they were going .500, it wasn't anywhere near Texas. Recent success influences a draft class pretty heavily.

I watched this game last night with mixed emotions, happy for the victory but sad to realize this will probably be the last time these guys will all be on the field together. This group of Seniors from both schools have been playing ball together since they were 7 years old. Some years they were separated and competed against one another while other years they played on the same team. It has been a great ride to say the least and a lot of fun seeing these young men grow up and succeed not only in baseball but life in general. For me personally I gained a lot of really good friends throughout this time and I consider myself fortunate for that every day. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for these young men. To all my friends from Silsbee, it's been a blast and I wish you nothing but the best down the road. To Tyler Powell, Colby Leblanc, Jordan Gore, Brayden Griffin, and Matthew Hartman I hope you guys have another great run in the playoffs and continue your success in everything you do. To my Senior guys from BC that played with us (Blaine Mcelduff, Keaton Langston and Hunter Uzzle) I hope for a long playoff run as well and a great life after baseball. Time sure flies and it seems like we just got started.

Lots of good baseball played right here..

Southeast Texas Tigers, Stripecats, Dirty Dozen, Johnny's Drakes, Gladiators, BlueClaw Baseball, Mid County Babe Ruth, Bridge City Little League, Silsbee Little League, Bridge City High School, Silsbee High School, Panola, Northeast Oklahoma.
