  1. Everything said spot on, especially about playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. Some will dispute this, but I believe it just takes ALOT more discipline to be a good defensive player, alot of playmakers are just incredible athletes. Lets' face it, for the most part this generation and discipline don't mix...it's alot more coaching work to coach a disciplined defense, one that will bend but not break, that won't over pursue, that will stick with the scheme instead of taking the bait and going prematurely for the kill. But they do exist.

    Aledo 51

    Grapevine 7

That was a GV offense averaging 52 pts. a game.

    That's a championship defense.

Unfortunately for them New Caney has elevated their play to the level where they won't be overlooked by anybody. Jordan Cooper is sitting just shy of 3,000 total yards from the QB position, Marte Allison has over 1,200+ yards and 20+ rushing tds from the RB position and Eli Aiken has over 1,000 receiving yards to go with 16 tds. NC has lost the element of surprise with numbers like that. Manvel's players will know who all those players are by the end of practice today and will be geared up to stop them. NC will feel better once Manvel also hammers Cedar Park the week after.

    That. Won't. Happen.

Now explain  to me again  they let the p e classes in the playoffs????

UIL should get smart and ALLOW top seeds to CHOOSE a higher seeded opponent if desired, a game like this can't do WOS much good and would at least allow a more competitive game (most of the time) for lower seeds.

That being said Tarkington is from a 5 team district and won 1 district game to "get" into the playoffs. More ridiculousness. But those kids still go out and do the best they can with what THEY'RE given, it's not always the athlete's fault they're not competitive. They've got some good athletes with some big hearts so no need to be demeaning to them. They took their whooping on the field, they don't need another one here.

  4. GT will beat PC, game is in GT and they are playing to get in. PC's only motivation other than basic pride is helping to push CP down to DII so they won't have to meet them again in DI assuming they both make it that far. It's the old Jimmy the Greek "intangible", motivation for GT is I think higher, that alone won't win the game but they have the horses to do it, should be a great game. I think CP goes D1 as it should be. While an Aledo/CP championship game has allure (assuming alot of things along the way), so does CP/Manvel/Denton Ryan.

  5. I thought the same thing at first, but I think he's just pranking a fellow ump, way too blatant to be intentionally trying to "cheat" . The thing is, it's not a good time for that kind of shenanigans so it ends up looking bad, but no way did this ump try to alter the outcome of the home run. I know those guys gotta have a little fun too, but a close game in high school playoffs is probably not the right time for it, put a rubber snake in his ball bag after the game or something....or cover the plate on a home run and have folks think you should never ump again..

From my understanding Comstock from Tarkington has only allowed one run all year and that was the run tonight. Is that true?

His ERA in district play was zip, not sure about all year as he was injured for part of it. Was the run tonight scored earned? I thought the runner reached on error, and I think there was another that inning but I may just be thinking about the mental errors. Doesn't really matter, thats all for stats, the only one that mattered tonight was the W. Both pitchers did a heck of a job, umps were solid, fans behaved unless I missed something. Pretty clean game if you don't include the sprinkler incident. Game could have gone either way, Horn's order spreads their hits and produces very few runs (all year). Tigers are obviously are a more honed baseball machine, Horns are scrappy at times, not enough tonight.

Btw, for those watching, the base running error by the Horns in the first was because on the HNR the ball bounced such that by the time the runner picked it up he thought it was a caught pop up (didn't see the bounce in front of the mound that made it look like a pop up). The throw to first to get the batter he presumed was the double play throwback on him after he had already rounded 2nd and thus the 3rd out. Not "my" kid, I'm not making excuses for him, but he's a heck of ball player and it was just an unfortunate series of events, starting with the HNR that put him in that spot.  It happens, but it wasn't because he didn't have his head in the game.

Sorry for the double post, first one didn't include quote...

There's no slow ball team in this region capable of beating them, unless HJ gets Parquet back, and that would still be a slim chance.  The only thing that can slow down the Tigers is an officiating crew that calls a super tight game or their shot selection if they're ice cold from deep.

Obviously Silsbee has a very good team this year (as most), but are you conceding that some crews have let them get away with more physical play than the letter of the rules allows?  Missing a call is one thing, ignoring it is entirely different. Not taking a shot at you for the comment, I'm sure it's accurate but I'm wondering if that "loose" officiating led to not just a win, but a dominant win last Friday.

  8. Cleveland had it's starters the first time they played Tarkington, they lost them after that game when Tarkington was actually playing basketball and won, I wouldn't read too much into Cleveland winning by 40 as Tarkington lost to Huffman by 50+ Tuesday, every other team in the district has gotten better and they've gone downhill fast. We'll see how Cleveland fares against Huffman that will be a better gauge but with Coldspring losing to Shepherd last night Huffman doesn't have any pressure to secure the district title. As you say a moot point playoff wise but unlikely even at their best they would have been a threat this year, 23 is down but 1 and 2 should do well against 24's 3 and 4.

I didn't say avoid as in avoid all together I meant avoid playing them in the second round but yea shepherd and coldspring do have size with the big man the guy from the Cleveland Browns little brother Gilbert he can really jump out the gym but between him and cole im not sure that will be enough for Silsbee and maybe HJ but they will as well as shepherd beat up on some teams in the playoffs and hope for some upsets Huffman has talent to it was a great competitive district this year

I see your point, but I'd rather chance Silsbee in R3 than Wheatley in R2, they score alot of points, not sure of their competition though.

Exactly, I'm a realist, Hardin Jefferson and Silsbee are another level. Shepherd does have size as well as coldspring but y'all will get to feast on bridge city, LCM possibly WOS. Shepherd easily could be sitting #1 or #2 with 2 losses coming from Huffman by a combined 3 pts. Good luck to yall

First half it was a tight race with alot of teams being competitive. Shepherd could benefit ( I think, not sure of tie-break with CS ) with a Tarkington win over CS but the Horns have now come officially completely unwound and gone from losing by a few errant plays to not even being competitive so that's an unlikely scenario.

Very intense game refs were not good at all bad calls for both teams overall great game great way to end the district rivalry cause we are moving down a class good luck on the playoff run with the loss we avoid playing Silsbee for a couple of rounds if we make it that far to play them lol great game and ed Hayes attitude has hurt our team all year it's rediculous

How does a loss help you avoid Silsbee?

  12. Refs get knocked around on here from time to time it's worth saying that this was a well called game, in Liberty's den at that. The guys in stripes did a good job, letting them play while maintaining order. Liberty's #1 Trevor Pierce shot the lights out and Horns couldn't find the bucket, scored once in the first few seconds and blanked the entire rest of the first and part ot the second with ample opportunity. Still a 2 point game in the 3rd but Horns looked confused and Panthers poured it on. With Coldspring beating Huffman it's getting interesting to see who is going to get bumped to the 3 and 4 spot for the Silsbee/HJ meat grinder in round 1........is the tie breaker paper/rock/scissors?
