Maybe Manvel won their Super Bowl last week......happens all the time in the playoffs.

Everything said spot on, especially about playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. Some will dispute this, but I believe it just takes ALOT more discipline to be a good defensive player, alot of playmakers are just incredible athletes. Lets' face it, for the most part this generation and discipline don't mix...it's alot more coaching work to coach a disciplined defense, one that will bend but not break, that won't over pursue, that will stick with the scheme instead of taking the bait and going prematurely for the kill. But they do exist.

UIL should get smart and ALLOW top seeds to CHOOSE a higher seeded opponent if desired, a game like this can't do WOS much good and would at least allow a more competitive game (most of the time) for lower seeds.

That being said Tarkington is from a 5 team district and won 1 district game to "get" into the playoffs. More ridiculousness. But those kids still go out and do the best they can with what THEY'RE given, it's not always the athlete's fault they're not competitive. They've got some good athletes with some big hearts so no need to be demeaning to them. They took their whooping on the field, they don't need another one here.

GT will beat PC, game is in GT and they are playing to get in. PC's only motivation other than basic pride is helping to push CP down to DII so they won't have to meet them again in DI assuming they both make it that far. It's the old Jimmy the Greek "intangible", motivation for GT is I think higher, that alone won't win the game but they have the horses to do it, should be a great game. I think CP goes D1 as it should be. While an Aledo/CP championship game has allure (assuming alot of things along the way), so does CP/Manvel/Denton Ryan. 

I thought the same thing at first, but I think he's just pranking a fellow ump, way too blatant to be intentionally trying to "cheat" . The thing is, it's not a good time for that kind of shenanigans so it ends up looking bad, but no way did this ump try to alter the outcome of the home run. I know those guys gotta have a little fun too, but a close game in high school playoffs is probably not the right time for it, put a rubber snake in his ball bag after the game or something....or cover the plate on a home run and have folks think you should never ump again..

Things just got interesting in 23-4a, when is the last time Huffman lost a district game? Falcons not hurt much by it but if the Horns start hitting and the pitching holds....let's not get ahead of ourselves. Gotta love baseball, it's anybody's game to win on any given day. Keep it rolling..

Obviously Silsbee has a very good team this year (as most), but are you conceding that some crews have let them get away with more physical play than the letter of the rules allows?  Missing a call is one thing, ignoring it is entirely different. Not taking a shot at you for the comment, I'm sure it's accurate but I'm wondering if that "loose" officiating led to not just a win, but a dominant win last Friday.

Coldspring 63-52, close game most of the way. Tarkington played more like earlier in the year, CS had a couple of guys that shot well from outside and their big man while not that tall plays tough and pretty fundamentally sound, if they play like that they should win R1 and maybe more. Does anyone know if they lost a player for good due to what happened in Shepherd?

Cleveland had it's starters the first time they played Tarkington, they lost them after that game when Tarkington was actually playing basketball and won, I wouldn't read too much into Cleveland winning by 40 as Tarkington lost to Huffman by 50+ Tuesday, every other team in the district has gotten better and they've gone downhill fast. We'll see how Cleveland fares against Huffman that will be a better gauge but with Coldspring losing to Shepherd last night Huffman doesn't have any pressure to secure the district title. As you say a moot point playoff wise but unlikely even at their best they would have been a threat this year, 23 is down but 1 and 2 should do well against 24's 3 and 4.

I see your point, but I'd rather chance Silsbee in R3 than Wheatley in R2, they score alot of points, not sure of their competition though.

First half it was a tight race with alot of teams being competitive. Shepherd could benefit ( I think, not sure of tie-break with CS ) with a Tarkington win over CS but the Horns have now come officially completely unwound and gone from losing by a few errant plays to not even being competitive so that's an unlikely scenario.

That's kind of what I was thinking, nobody in 23 is a match for Silsbee or HJ this year, 1st and 2nd have a chance against 24's 3 and 4 but otherwise.....

74-23 Huffman, #10 for the Falcons put on a clinic, Horns looked like they couldn't care less.

Refs get knocked around on here from time to time it's worth saying that this was a well called game, in Liberty's den at that. The guys in stripes did a good job, letting them play while maintaining order. Liberty's #1 Trevor Pierce shot the lights out and Horns couldn't find the bucket, scored once in the first few seconds and blanked the entire rest of the first and part ot the second with ample opportunity. Still a 2 point game in the 3rd but Horns looked confused and Panthers poured it on. With Coldspring beating Huffman it's getting interesting to see who is going to get bumped to the 3 and 4 spot for the Silsbee/HJ meat grinder in round 1........is the tie breaker paper/rock/scissors?
