5 years prior to Jerry Stewart taking over the Dayton program Dayton had gone 9-41. Well I really don't need to tell the rest of the story. His playoff streak started in his first year and I believe his teams had 10 district championships. There's a really good article on Chron.com about when he first arrived here. It's a great read and tells you a lot about the kind of coach he was. Dekari Pearson was a freshman who was extremely talented but didn't like to practice. Stewart kicked him off the team and he had to work his way back on the team. Pearson ended up playing for the UT and from all I have heard is a great guy. That all started with a life lesson his freshman year. I guess what I'm saying is coaches can have an immediate impact.
