Everyone can’t be an American…. The concept of being "able-bodied" was a significant factor in the immigration process at Ellis Island . Here's why and how: 1. Medical Inspections: Immigrants were subjected to medical exams to identify and prevent the entry of contagious diseases that could endanger public health. Doctors looked for conditions like trachoma (a serious eye infection), tuberculosis, and others, that could limit an immigrant's ability to work or contribute to society. Those with serious illnesses were sent to the Ellis Island Hospital, with the hope that most would recover and be allowed entry. However, if a condition was deemed incurable or posed a public health risk, it could lead to deportation. 2. Public Charge Considerations: Beyond medical issues, immigrants also had to demonstrate that they were "unlikely to become a public charge," meaning they wouldn't require government assistance. This assessment included considering an immigrant's physical condition and whether it would hinder their ability to work and support themselves. 3. The "Six-Second Exam": Doctors developed quick, observational methods to assess immigrants as they passed through the processing areas. They looked for signs of physical weakness, limitations in movement, or any other indicator of a health issue that might make an immigrant undesirable. 4. Focus on Work Capacity: The system was designed, in part, to select immigrants who could contribute to the nation's industrial needs. Conditions that might limit a person's capacity to perform unskilled labor, such as varicose veins, hernias, or deformities, were among those considered for exclusion. In summary: While Ellis Island is often remembered as a symbol of welcoming immigrants, it also served as a filter, and being able-bodied was an important factor in the inspection and selection process.1 point

Don’t say nothing to me about attacking police, looting, or vandalism. You have no ground to stand on because you praised your people as heroes for worse behavior. The violence in LA has been amplified by corporate media because violence sells ads. Nothing has happened that local authorities couldn’t handle.1 point

Their problems are bigger than that. PISD enjoyed spending other folks money so much that before they knew it they’d gone ahead and built one too many high schools, and a “Memorial” High School at that! Reminds me of another little refinery town ISD I know that had too much fun spending other folks money…1 point -

That last statement is so comical. Completely tells us your knowledge (lack thereof) of the game. You do realize that a 9 point win is just a 3 possession game which many teams have lost those leads in less than a minute of game time. Hardly a blowout. Now if you want to say a 9 run win in baseball is a blowout, then you would be accurate in stating that. But basketball, that's a joke. You should also be advised not to debate basketball knowledge with TxHoops.1 point -
It wasn’t an argument. It was a collection of opinions. You even went so far as to accuse me of plagiarizing your plagiarism. Can’t argue with that crazy thinking. This is how the Father of our Country saw it. Read it then let’s try another debate. [Hidden Content] So, where’s the insurrection against the Federal government in Los Angeles?1 point
