If all of us that read this board were well balanced adults, capable of loving our kids without any of it relating to ball, I could see this as "tongue in cheek", and even fun.  I see this though, as something way serious, and not "for fun"...I can see some crazy daddy or momma, though, taking these numbers way too seriously, and abusing their kid over it.  No, the author of the spreads didn't beat the kid, but can it be a contributing factor?  Just look at the mentality of some in Tustin, CA...

When the game is over, my son and I break down the film together and evaluate his performance. If he doesn't perform to his abilities, he is punished. What's wrong with that? Shouldn't he be accountable for his performance???

joking?

If not......

It's a game.  I usually agree with your post but not this one.

We also watch the film and look at his individual performance. We point out his good plays and discuss what he could of done better. The only punishment he would EVER get would be losing his starting position.......or hard agility drills on Mondays practice......

Of course, I was just joking. I was pointing out how ridiculous elhector's comments about the social  harms of point spreads on a meaningless social board sound by posting an equally ridiculous comment about punishing my son for a poor performance.  In reality, win or lose, I hug him and kiss him square on the lips (I'm not a pedophile either, elhector) and I tell him how proud of him I am. We may or may not watch the film together, and I may tell him if I thought he played to his potential, but I never degrade or demean him because of a football game.

I have been known to slap him around or touch a hot iron to the bottom of his feet for a bad practice though... ;D

I think holding your kid accountable is part of parenting...you hold him accountable for his performance here and in the classroom...nothing wrong with that...

Do you hold him accountable, though, if he does everything as he is supposed to, and then the team still loses big?  Or because someone thinks they are "dogs"?...Sadly, smash, there are some out there that do...having nothing to do with performance, and instead bust their kids on perception...

You may OR may not be correct in your assumption...however, that will go on (if it is even the case) whether or not silly point spreads are projected.

Why don't you just advocate getting rid of keeping score in Pee Wee age ball altogether?

Winning and losing is part of growing up...scores are part of that...

Dogging a team before the game, though...that's different.  Having worked with kids, they know when they are being dogged.  As adults, we deal with insults all day long, and dish right back.  How does a kid that sees this though, (and you know they will) insult someone like Ocho back, since he is an adult?  On the field for sure, but how does that play here?

Maybe an "Ocho gets dogged" thread when he is way wrong?

I guess I didn't have my coffee this morning.....

Bottom line....Its all in fun.......

I think elhector1's point is the minority....I think 99.9% of the parents love their kids and would not hurt them over a game of football.

I personally think it is great that the coaches, parents and fans take pride in not only their team but pay attention to other teams and their progress. Stjfl coaches/parents teach our kids a competitive sport where scores are kept and they have standings, playoffs then a Badd @$$ Super Bowl!!. It's all about the kids and learning this great sport and achieving goals, building confidence, and showing them if they work hard no matter if they are the biggest  fastest or most talented player and not one player wins or loses a game by themselves. Far as all the talk regarding stats, point spreads and rankings, have fun with this, its meaninglessness!! You think your kids know if they're ranked or if they're the favorite or underdog this week. If they do, then blame your coach and Not.OCHO..lol

    • I’ve stated over and over that I don’t think that the hush money trial has merit. I also don’t think that the fraud/appraisals case in NYC had merit, either. I think that the evidence in the Election Tampering case down in Georgia is pretty damning, and the case about mishandling documents down in Florida is a real problem for Trump… because that’s what intelligent people do-look at the facts make sound decisions not based on their pwecious feewings.  You know, just saying “Bah! It’s all a bunch of lies because I love him!” Or “of course he did it! I hate him.” But thought processes are something most people are incapable of. They only manage to scroll social media for posts that validate their own opinions and them off as truth or fact when they are just outright lies… but they make the re-poster feel good inside so he believes them without question.    Every time I soundly refute the  idea that trump was good for the economy, y’all yell “but COVID!” His tax cuts provided a short term bubble in the economy by way of an exploding deficit and debt that our grandkids will still be paying interest upon 50 years from now even prior to COVID.  It’s like when Mama takes over the family finances, maxes out all of the credit cards and drives the family into bankruptcy.  Y’all would be the spoiled brat, immature and stupid children that spout off “things were so much better when Mom was handling the finances! We had everything we wanted! Put her back in charge!” Anybody that says “Trump was good for the economy” is just letting they world known that they don’t understand micro/macro economics or the effects of rising interest rates have on a debt the size of ours.    What none of you seem to realize is that the problems were facing today (interest rates and inflation) would be occurring even if Trump were in office because his fiscal policies are more flawed than either conservatives or liberals.    Libs: we should raise taxes on the rich and spend more! Conservatives: We should cut taxes on everybody but cut spending!   Trump: We’re gonna cut taxes and spend more!    It’s a recipe for pure disaster. He’s literally the guy who says “we’re gonna buy high, sell low, and make it up in volume!”
    • The problem our buddy @CardinalBacker has is that the Dems have been cheating Trump since before his inauguration.  There's 4 cheats going on right now against a private citizen.  But yet he wants us to believe that the 2020 election was squeaky clean.  No cheating what so ever.  That a brain dead individual got 81 million votes.  But the other guy that was supposed to be so bad got 74 million, the most any President ever got for reelection.  Evil people don't turn on and off their evil cheating ways.

    • You just analogized to a tee the situation going on with the Trump New York trial. And I bet you can't even see the hypocrisy elicited out of your hatred. You once again outed yourself...without any realization of your actions. I'm not sure if Reagan actually set you up to expose your blatant hypocrisy, or if it was just a happy coincidence. You seem to thrive on humiliating yourself. Now get to work on providing that evidence of your emphatic declarations that Trump's economy was horrible. You failed miserably before, I bet you will again.
