[size=12pt]Even though the Crosby Cougars reached the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year, the winds of change were still swirling.  That change resulted in a new coach, Jeff Riordan who was formerly the offensive coordinator with Sulphur Springs.  Coach Riordan takes the field with thirteen returning starters intent on extending the Cougars' playoff streak.

Returning starters: 6[/b][/size]

Returning to key the Crosby spread offense will be junior quarterback Aston Walter (19-4A Newcomer of the Year, 94-148, 1367 yd, 14 TD passing; 166 carries, 766 yd, 8 TD rusning in 2011).  Back there with him will be his brother, junior running back Austin Walter (1st team all district; 198 carries, 1387 yd, 16 TD; 21 catches, 250 yd, 2 TD receiving).  Comprising the Cougar receiver corp will be seniors Ben Meche (8 catches, 58 yd in 2011) and Juan Morales and juniors Raelon Singleton and Cullen Lee. Senior linemen Taylor Herman and Joe Fuselier will be joined by junior center Blake Wright and junior linemen Josh Blackburn and Reese Rucka.

Crosby will be returning seven starters on defense.  Senior linemen Shaquan Mathews and Grant Narcisse will be joined by senior nose tackle Nathan Caldwell.  Senior Val Hernandez (1st team all district in 2011) will be joined at linebacker by junior Chase Nix (2nd team all district) and senior Eric Owens.  Senior Justin Walter (1st team all district in 2011) will be joined by junior Kyle Williams, along with senior cornerback Logan Porter, senior rover Trey Teel and senior safety Lyle Buckner.

Austin Walter will be the primary kickoff returner and Justin Walter will be the primary punt returner in 2012.

Crosby will begin their 2012 season in Nederland on August 31st.  Barbers Hill will visit on September 14th to begin 19-4A district play.  The Cougars travel to Porter on August 9th to close the district season.

[/quote]Right you are, but I like the setup of their schedule: preseason 1-1, if they could come out of the first 3 district games 2-1 with lone lose to Dayton(playoffs for sure). But if they come out 1-2 in first three districts games, they still could make the playoffs easily enough because of the 5 brutal games.

Same as usual for Crosby.Always a good offense but rarely have a solid defense.The big factor is Crosby lost(graduation)1 of the best punter/kicker they ever had.Helped Coogs win alot of close games & pinned opposition in deep holes 8)

Yall keep doubting Crosby! I still think that they will be the best team in district this year. They return the best two players in the distict along with 13 starters and a Coach that lead a high powered SS team to a State Championship! The Coogs have a lot of potential this year.

Speed didn't help much with Vidor and Nederland has just as good of a defense as
Vidor if not better.

Sorry for the word "whipped".  How about 3 times in the last 2 years?  You make a statement about Nederland not being able to handle Crosby's speed, but have nothing to back it up with.  We lost to one team last year that was loaded with speed (Dawson) and held our own against them.
