Not disrepecting Nederland and their accomplishments, just don't believe in bad mouthing coaches ,also last year Nederland won district and got elliminated b4 the runner up.

Wrong. They won 3 games and lost in The Regional Semi's in Katy haunts Galveston Ball. Ozen (the runner up) won 2 games then lost to KW Park who also lost in the Reg Semis.

I don't think Nederland/Ozen will ever be much of a rivalry...You just have to give credit where its due, and Coach English has clearly taken Nederland to another plateau.  It is apparent that in this situation, talent is not the deciding factor here.  Central HAS the talent, and Ozen cupboard is not exactly bare either. What Nederland has as an advantage, is a group of guys that has bought into a SYSTEM.  That will always put you head and shoulders above talent in MOST years.

I think most people are starting to respect Ned (I know u have always had a secret crush  ;) ), but a few are still reluctant to say so until Ned accomplishes ??
Looking from 8th grade-Varsity, it looks like Ned will continue being very competitive and fighting for the District Title for at least the next 5 years.

Though i agree English is by far the better coach. 

Nederland and English also has an advantage when it comes to putting a program in place.  Their feeder system is by far better than beaumont's.  In beaumont the junior high coach's run what they want with hardly any input from High school coaches and the kids can choose where they wanna go after junior high.

Even though Nederland has that to their advantage it takes a person like English to be involved and put a system in place like he has....so he still did the work.  Unlike past Head basketball coaches at Nederland.

English has worked from the bottom up to improve Nederland as a whole.

[/quote] You know Dickie, I agree with you and then I just remembered you and I were raised under the same system, and similar thought process.

But let me throw in an example: Nederland stole the ball in the 4th qtr with a few minutes left. The NED. player could have laid the ball up for two more points. But he pulled the ball back out and took off more clock time. Usually, I see kids laying the ball up to get their points and eventually lose their game or making the game too close. Very smart player to think of the team. Actually I know the Nederland kid's name but I don't want his daddy getting a big head for complementing his son. :P

I agree with you on that, 5 gallon buckets.  The problem with the feeder school issue in Beaumont is because of open enrollment in BISD, you can't really earmark junior high kids to flow to the closer high school anymore.  This is why it seems like the JH programs are just doing their own thing. Its a tough situation to be in, but its the reality.

That game was not the most exciting, but 4/5 previous games have come down to the final minutes/seconds. Remember PNG was not bad last year. They only lost to Crosby(I think it was Crosby) by 1-2 points in the playoffs. Also, it took a last second shot at PNG last year for The Dawgs to win the game, which had a playoff atmosphere. Even though Ned was the superior team last year, the rivalry made it close, and Ned will not ever take them lightly.

Well, Dove, thats all a part of that SYSTEM that I am speaking of...When your kids understand clock management, and when to go, and when to hold em, you KNOW that coaching is taking place in practice! LOL....That is a great example that you gave! Although you can NEVER truly predict what a 16,17 year old may do at any point during a game, when you see that sort of thing, you know they are being coached without a doubt...And being hands...err EYES on from little dribblers on up, does not hurt either! ;D ;D

[/quote]Very true.  I've just seen the ML King Middle School basketball team.  This team is loaded as they have several 6'3" -6'4" kids playing against other middle school  teams that have normal looking Middle school kids.  Back in the day, you would know that all of these kids are automatically going to Central since King should/used to be a feeder to Central.  Now, you don't know if Ozen will gather some of this talent.
