Coldspring Running Back ties state and national record

Congrats to Coldspring senior RB Colton Monroe who set a school record and tied a state & national record with a 99 yard td run against Shepherd..(He also received a couple of very good blocks along the way from Sherman Gilbert)....

Monroe also had a kickoff return for a TD of about 70 yds on the second half kickoff...His previous long TD run this year was a 80 yarder against Madisonville....

Coldspring's duo of Gilbert and Monroe are putting up some big numbers and look to be one of SETX best backfields....

Congrats to both and keep running all the way to Arlington!

I guess it sucks to be Shepherd. Brent Chapman had a 99 yd carry for a td against Shepherd for the Cleveland Indians 3 yrs ago. Shepherd led that game 3-0 early in the 1st qtr only to see the Indians score 63 unanswered.

It was ligit, It came after Gilbert faught to get out of the endzone and a saftey. Nex play Monroe made the big run with the help of Gilbert down around the 25 and 20 yard markers with some huge hits

What is great about this is there are a few more Monroe kids that will be coming through the program for some time.  Their dad does a great job coaching the 4-5-6 year olds.  I think Colton gives the Trojans a real threat anytime he touches it.  He is not quite the grinder that Cody was, but is very talented and and has great speed.  He also does a very good job on defense.  That is where he really excelled last year.
