Dont wait on me but if  you still have it in a couple of months I'm defenitely interested.  Christmas hit us hard and now have a 10yr old's birthday that is going to smack me good.  I came out like a bandit at Christmas and my wife may shoot me if I mention buying a gun right now.  I"m very interested but like I said, don't let me hold you up on selling the gun.

What all is needed to have a an automatic gun? Isn't their some extra hooplah you have to do in order to legally own one? Just curious. I've wanted to get one for awhile.

Machine guns are lawful to own. The deal is that you have to pay for a federal tax stamp. The stamp is only $200 and a one time deal. You apply for it and clear a background check and if everything checks out okay, you get the stamp.... if you can get a police chief in your city or the sheriff in your county to sign off on it. If not, you can incorporate and get the stamp by forming a corporation and going around the signature requirement. Forming a corporation though might run a person $2,000 or so. I haven't checked into it lately.

Once you get the stamp, you can go buy a machine gun from another person that lawfully has one with a stamp. The problem there is that privately owned machine guns had to be manufactured before May 1986 (I think). After that, all machine guns have to go to law enforcement or the military. With the 1986 cut off date, there is a finite number of machine guns for sale. That means big bucks. It is like any other rare item like a rare coin.

So you might get lucky and pass the background check and pay the $200 stamp and go out and buy that machine gun. The problem is that the machine gun will likely go for $3,000 or more simply because they haven't been made for public ownership in almost 20 years. So if you have to incorporate then the entire cost might be $5,000 or more.

It is not hard therefore to get a machine gun and there is nothing illegal about it. Most people simply don't want to spend the money that it will cost. At $3,000 for a best case scenario and $5,000 or more for the worst case scenario, it just isn't that appealing.

By the way, you can also have a short barrel rifle or shotgun (lawful sawed off shotgun or short barrel rifle like an AR-15 with an 11 inch barrel) or silencer by the same means. Those items are still being manufactured though so it isn't nearly so expensive as the $3,000 machine gun. All you have to do is get the stamp at $200 (plus more if needed to incorporate). A short barrel for an AR-15 might run about $200 so if you can get a law enforcement signature, for a total cost of $400 you can have a shorty AR-15 and a dreaded "assault rifle".

i went a long way towards completing my collection with the purchase of a rock river elite operator II yesterday!
nice looking addition! What's your reasoning behind going with the rock river instead of a different variant. look, performance, personal preference, etc?

RRA's have a good reputation, a solid warranty and service, very good accuracy (I think mostly Wilson barrels) and great factory triggers. The Operator series is the best deal on the market today with $600 in add ons (quad rail, ergo grip, chrome BCG, winter trigger guard, custom stock, national match trigger, etc) for free. The base RRA's cost $960 with no enhancements. The Operators have all of the mentions extras for a driveout price of $1,000 and free shipping. RRA currently makes the federal law enforcement rifles or they did until recently.

Any opinions on a good concealed carry gun? I'm looking at getting my CHL some time next year and was wondering what y'all might think. The Glock 26 and 27 have both been on my radar.

Also, any knowledge on a Mosin Nagant M91/30? I've always had an interest in old military arms (including Russian ones) and that seems like a cheap, easy addition to the small collection sitting back home.

I have been carrying concealed for almost 30 years. I current have three that I usually carry most often.

Through the years I have carried maybe 35 different handguns of varying types and sizes.

Exactly what do you want to know?
