A&M freshman center Jordan declares for NBA draft

7-footer won't hire an agent, returning to Aggies still a possibility

Texas A&M freshman center DeAndre Jordan has decided to throw his name into the NBA early entry hat.

The product of Christian Life Academy will not hire an agent, so the 7-footer could still return to the Aggies for next season but will be able to attend camps and be evaluated by NBA teams

Jordan, a long and athletic post, had been listed as high as a Top 5 pick coming into his freshman season at A&M but after he struggled and spent most of the year coming off the bench his stock dipped some.

"I just want to test the waters and get a good feel for where I might be drafted," Jordan said.

He averaged 7.9 points and led A&M with 6.0 rebounds, while blocking 44 shots and shooting .617 from the field.

"DeAndre wants to explore where he might be in this year's draft," A&M Head Coach Mark Turgeon said. "This is the first step in that process."

He might get drafted due to his size alone, but is anyone really going to fall all over themselves to draft a guy who's 7 feet tall but only averaged 8 points and 6 rebounds on a COLLEGE squad?  Hopefully he'll decide to give A&M another year, improve his numbers, and reevaluate things at the end of next season.
